Feeling Good Friday-Saturday Edition

Oh did I sleep well Thursday night. After a ridiculously hot and turbulent flight, my own abode never looked better. That starts out why I am posting my Feeling Good post today.

  • I let myself sleep as late as I needed yesterday. While I was still up and out of the house by 7:20, giving my body the option to sleep until noon if required was in order. I had no time to do a proper post yesterday.
  • A long term issue finally got sorted at work. A woman that has since retired, had used an entirely wrong process for resolving a financial adjustment. Her replacement knew it couldn't be right and spent hours with me, as it had to be corrected by end of day, June 30,to fix. Peace of mind!
  • I thought about bailing on a group dinner Wednesday and just grabbing a salad in my hotel room. I decided to say "yes", one of my little goals, when my instinct was to say "no.". I had a fun evening, rode in a limo as it was cheaper for a group of nine than two or three cabs would have been. We got out of hotel strip no man's land and into the city for dinner. I spoke with newer colleagues I didn't know well, who were terrific.
  •  I skipped desert at the luncheon and learned I love Israeli couscous with balsamic dressing. I also skipped the high fat, high simple carb pastries and muffins at Thursdays breakfast. Fortunately, there were hard boiled eggs. I've learned to not just eat stuff because it is there.
  • It wasn't all good eating though, with a nacho bar reception Tuesday night, Tex-Mex enchiladas and Margarita at the dinner in the city Wednesday, and a veggie burger, with bun and fries for a last Dallas lunch. Still, .2 pounds were lost. I expected to have gained. Four weeks and 7 pounds to go until my nieces wedding, and 20 pound weight loss, goal one.
I'm off work until July 6th. We have the Journey concert tonight and then heading to the lake tomorrow through Wednesday DD1 is already there and DD2 is bringing a friend along. since we'll be there four days, and storage in the cooler and refrigerators becomes an issue, I'll do less prep ahead of time and bring the makings for meals, sides, and snacks. I plan to eat healthy, and walk and swim a lot. What's on your plans for the week ahead?

  1. Losing absolutely anything on a business trip is a great accomplishment! I'm trying to psych myself up for working out & staying on track when I'm in Tokyo. The jet lag usually makes me really uninspired in the mornings.

As for the week ahead, my family arrives at the beach house tomorrow. Today we'll be getting ready & wrapping up everything in advance of that. We'll be relaxing & having fun with the family, & then fly home on Thursday.

    1. Considering two weeks in a row I was out of my own element for a few days, I'll take it as a win-now cabin living for a few days. Best be busy exercising. I decided to do a lot of prep after all and have the crock pot going for shredded chicken, making some whole wheat bread to go with my jam from last weekend, calico beans with hamburger, and a salad. I'll bake a cake and muffins too, but everything else will just go unprepared.

  2. It's Canada Day today though this year there are 5 days of celebrations instead of just 1 due to it being our 150th birthday. So I will be partaking of good food (free cupcakes, cake and icecream!), lots of live music, friends and fireworks. If only the rain holds off!

    1. I'm making a strawberry rhubarb dump cake which has become a July 4th regular addition. DD2 used to make a patriotic desert, but now, this cake has taken over.

  3. Any week where you eat out so much and don't gain is a huge win, and you still lost some! Have fun at the Journey concert, I would love to go to one of those. They rarely come to Canada but I have always loved Steve Perry and Journey. Enjoy your down-time this weekend, you have been working so hard and definitely deserve it!

    1. I seem to just remember it so had to Google, but this is the version I make. It probably is not your cup of tea as it has so much sugar (why I make only 1 time maybe 2 a year), and uses both jello and a cake mix. We never put whip cream on-so sweet already, but it is a summer favorite.

  5. Since I have been really ill with a uti, I have three weeks of dishes to do. Then, I will do cooking for Sunday through the Fourth. I cannot do much at once, so this will be a long, tiring process to even get to the Fourth. I may make a dump cake. However, I will dump a brownie mix with a can of cherries.
