New Week-New Beginnings

While Wednesday technically was my first day in new interim position, today feels more like a new start. I'll move offices by weeks end, but have some purging and filing to do before hand. We were home by 2:00 yesterday-could have been earlier but my MIL wanted to go out for lunch when we got back to the cities. There was a wedding brunch, but she wanted to get on the road instead of going to that-just bagels and fruit and a clean up of the wedding venue, more so than a true brunch. DD2 and I weren't very hungry, so most of our lunch came home, and those leftovers with some leftovers already in the refrigerator made dinner last night. We all dozed in between play time with a happy pup and getting laundry done (me).

The wedding itself was beautiful, pretty bride and handsome groom and all the bells and whistles. A few different things-the brunch, open invitation to all, was an odd thing to see on the wedding invite. The grooms dinner as well was an open invitation to all invited to the wedding. There had been a Thursday golf tournament too. I've never seen a wedding stretch over four days, but I shouldn't have been surprised with this part of DH's family, where most things are a bit over the top. Still, there were no expectations about what anyone should participate in, so more options to join as preferred.Weddings should be an expression of the couple, and this one certainly was. I wish my lovely niece a and her new husband a lifetime of happiness.

A few moments really made me smile. My niece danced with her very frail and ailing grandpa, who even managed to spin her around.  The brides 20 year old brother must have taken a few dance lessons, because he was burning up the dance floor with all the ladies, meaning aunts, cousins, his mom's friends. I was exhausted after my turn with him! Here is a blurry photo of my nephew, a.k.a. the brides brother with his cousin, my DD2, as she was being spun.

DD1 worked so hard taking video, beginning at 9:00 a.m. straight through to the  end of the dance. Now she will have 15 hours of footage  to go through and the editing process to create the wedding video. This may be the first and last wedding she ever does. Her colleagues had warned her weddings are hard, more labor intensive than other projects, and family weddings the worse. We think the extended family is pretty clueless as to the amount of work involved. This isn't the days like in our wedding where an uncle strapped a huge video camera on a tripod and just let the tape roll and the end result was whatever was captured. She had the experience of people either thinking she was just a busy guest taking personal video (and getting in her way) or the hired help. I guess lesson learned, or secured, she will focus her private work on ventures other than weddings.

I do not have any good pictures of me wearing the dress, nor staging skills for pictures, but chose the more conservative blue rather than the prettier blue with the flowy sleeves. I just felt more comfortable in it, and both girls agreed it was the more suitable dress. DH's young cousins, about the ages of my older children, and with great fashion sense, both complimented me and said it really suited me. The other blue dress, plus the dress that DH said looked like it was meant for a 70 year old women, are being returned after work tonight. Here they are though. The odd color shading in the first dress is due to it not being dry. I washed it on delicate right away when we got home and it still wasn't dry yet this morning.
The one I chose,
The one being returned.

Awkward picture in the dress.

That's the long wrap up of the weekend and my launch into a fresh week. All big events come to an end. But as the song says, every new beginning comes form some other beginnings end. Here's to new beginnings.

  1. The dress you wore has lovely sleeves...they look like they cascade like a waterfall. It's funny how you know whether a garment feels right or not when you try it on isn't it. Arilx

  3. I like your choice of dress; it's the right blue and it has lovely sleeves. I never feel comfortable in a sleevless dress as you must have "sculptured" arms to wear one, and I don't.

The picture with grandpa spinning his niece around, is priceless.

    1. Yes having toned arms is a plus. The twirlers are my nephew and daughter.

  5. Goodness, I wouldn't have been able to chose between those dresses. They are both very pretty. I hear you on the amount of time the wedding photographer spends taking pictures. The young man at my son's wedding was on the go for HOURS in addition to the pictures he took the next day. I can't wait to see the pictures of the actual wedding though. And as for the wedding going on over 4 days that's great as long as no-one feels obliged to go to all 4 days. I must admit after the second day I was tired so I can't imagine how the bride and groom would have felt having to go on for 4 days (although I think some North African and Indian weddings do go on for that long). Yikes. Anna

    1. I was on the fence until I got dressed. The 2nd blue went back for someone else to love.
