Embarrassing Story? Give Aways? Yes, Please!

After a weekend of feeling like something pup might drag in, I'm feeling much better. A friend/former board colleague is in town from DC so I'm off after work wither her and another friend/colleague for a posh dinner (for me it is posh, for L, who lives in DC and runs with movers and shakers, maybe not) at one of my favorite cafe's in Minneapolis, the Aster Cafe.

I should really be traumatized by this place, but when klutzy things happen to people on a regular basis, one more embarrassing thing just sort of rolls off your shoulders. An organization I served on the board of used to be officed near the cafe. Several of us met to have a farewell lunch for an outgoing Executive Director and were seated outdoors on the lovely patio. Now if you click the link, you might be able to see the patio is actually on what probably a hundred years ago was a cobble street, and there are a few man hole covers. We were making room for a new arrival, and I slid my chair over, unbeknownst to me, actually moving the chair leg over a hole in the man cover, exactly the size for the chair leg to drop into. I did the most ungracious tumble and roll out of my tipped chair, landing in a heap on the cobblestone patio. Unhurt, I looked around for a moment, saw the gasps and looks of horror on my friends, the staff,  and other diners, stood up, checked for rips and tears in my skirt, seeing none, picked my chair up, and went back to the table, repositioning the chair away from the hole. I'm sure we scored a free desert out of that  event, but I don't remember now. That would have been fair compensation since their deserts are to die for!

Not wanting to be a greedy guts entirely, I'm opting out of entering Sluggy's latest give away at Don't Read This, It's Boring. I was the December lucky winner and still basking in the glow of the goodies I received. This one looks wonderful-particularly if you are a nail polish kind of gal. If you are prone to ungracious acts, winning a little nail polish glam might sooth the embarrassment. Happy Wednesday.

  1. Grace and beauty come from those who know how to deal with falling in manholes and being able to get oneself together to act like it didn't happen :)

    1. I always think, it could have been worse, the man hole cover could have been off!

  2. I'm horrendously clumsy so your story resonated with me. Kudos to you for the graceful recovery! xxx

    1. I cannot believe you are clumsy-how do you pull of the wedges, maxis, long hair, and perfect accessories? I'd be caught in doors and tripping all over myself.

    1. You can be my body guard, or at least be there to laugh with me!

  4. We've probably all had those moments. Ever walked into a lamppost because you were too busy looking back watching the neighbours arguing? Admittedly I was a kid but that'll teach me to mind my own business I suppose. Anna

    1. Ouch, but I can believe that is how a lot of post accident accidents happen-by gawkers not looking ahead but at the scene.

  5. I laugh every time (and there are many) I cause some physical calamity and tell whoever is with me I should have been named Grace. It gives them the opportunity to laugh, since they probably wanted to anyway.

    1. As long as I' not physically hurt, or hurt to bad, being able to laugh about it makes the embarrassment dissipate. Of course, I rather not have these things happen repeatedly.

    1. Even though it was December, a Sluggy gift box is one to savor for months!
