The Magic of Ordinary Sunday's

An extra hour of the weekend, sunny skies and warmish 50 degree temperatures make for perfect Sunday in November conditions. Add tho this that DH's Minnesota Vikings have a by week so no game, we might even get some family time in, uninterrupted by the temptation of seeing a touchdown pass. There are things that need to be done around the house, such as getting the outdoor furniture stacked and stored, a sweeping and brush down of the porch and siding, a cleaning of the rails, preparing to put a few lights up for Christmas in a few weeks. Since we only put a few around the porch railings, I don't worry about dragging ladders out before snow comes as I can do this myself. However, cleaning and using water needs to be done when  I can still feel my toes and fingers. I've had play all weekend, with a fundraising gala, to which DD2's jazz group was part of the entertainment, and a sisters day. While there's jobs to get done, weekends need to have play.

I had a terrific day with my sisters yesterday. We started with breakfast and then headed towards a country farm that had a huge barn loaded to the rafters with country and Christmas crafts. I bought a seed bag purse for DD2, one just like a version we had seen in a boutique in town, and a soy candle. We stopped at several small shops in small towns up along the Minnesota down Wisconsin sides of the Mississippi. We had tastings at both a winery and a cidery, coming home with a couple bottles of a delicious white wine for Thanksgiving and two different variety's of hard ciders. I brought home treats of local cheese and pepperoni sticks, and krumkake from a Scandinavian bakery for DH and DD2. We ended our day playing cards at one of my sisters, and toasting our sister J.

My hunt for a television stand is over. After my dad died, my sister had taken my parents stand to store for me as she knew I wasn't ready for it. In the years since, I had thought her son, who just bought a house, had more need for it and was using in his home. While browsing an Amish made beautiful piece  yesterday, my sister mentioned she still has the stand in her basement for me. They're going to drop it off sometime today. What a nice sister-I'm a little embarrassed-she's been storing it, and now she is delivering it for me.

Other things on the docket today include a viewing and reception at the arts center where DD2 takes her lessons. A local photographer, a dad of one of her classmates, takes up close and behind the scenes  pictures of various performing arts events in town. The showing is a visual arts take on the performing arts. Before though, I need to stop at a wake for a classmate that passed away earlier in the week, having never recovered from a heart attack and surgery in mid September. I'll stop by and pay my respects before the photography reception. No doubt I will see many former classmates. 51 is too young. I try to remember as much and take joy in each day. My Sunday will be ordinary and without thrills, though it is a testament to a good life, a happy life. In that there is magic.

  1. An ordinary Sunday sounds lovely. I'm trying to get my body clock re-adjusted after Singapore, and have a long list of regular chores to do as well. I'd much rather be at home, having a boring Sunday vs traveling!

  2. I am into this long boring stay at home Sunday as well. I need to scrub the front porch and door surroundings. It is in the 80's and sunny so it's a good day to tackle it, plus it will still look good when it comes time for Christmas decorations.

    1. It didn't get as warm as predicted. Cold job and I'll need to give it another go.
