Weekend Wrap Up

Remember my count down to December calendar from three weekends ago? Hah, jokes on me. I have not achieved but half of what is on the list but, I am relishing in the success of at least half! In all honesty, I really doubted I would implement as well as I planned on paper; still jobs are getting done. Yesterday was less thanproductive as I helped make some food for my sister's significant other's funeral, then attended the visitation, service, and dinner after. Friday, even though I worked from home, was crazy busy, so I didn't even get far throwing in a load or two of laundry which is the norm.

Today though, I feel like I worked double time. We finally have some minimal decorations outside and the tree is up, decorated, and I'm satisfied. I'm starting to assemble my Christmas village and will putter on that as the week goes on. Same with my dining room. Right now it looks like a combination of  guest services at Macy's and just plain chaos, with gifts, and wrapping paper, boxes, and gift bags, and assorted stuff that has just ended up there an not moved on. That too will get sorted as the week progresses. Today I:
  • Picked up and delivered funeral flowers to a nursing home
  • Put up wreaths and lights (minimal) outside
  • Tree set up and decorated
  • Village unboxed
  • Mantel items unpacked-still arranging
  • Batch one of  Chex Mix and Puppy Chow. We'll use the snacks made so far for a few social gatherings and make batch 2 of both in another two weeks
  • Completed gifts for three people-just a few gift cards to pick up and I'll be good to go
  • Laundry for the week
I have a busy work schedule this week, but only four days as it is my flex week Friday. I have a get together with some way back colleagues/friends tomorrow night in St Paul, so I'll probably just work late before meeting up. DD2 has choir practice anyway, and DH works late. Tonight still, I have the kitchen to clean up from dinner and another load of clothes to fold. Then, I might just mix myself up a cocktail and watch a sappy Christmas movie in the glow of the tree lights. How was your weekend? Are you progressing as you planned so far in the early days of the month?

  1. The front of your house looks very pretty!
I am impressed anyway, even if you are not totally satisfied. We have been so incredibly sick that I am a good 2 weeks behind my self imposed schedule. Hopefully I can finish a major project tonight and will be back on track tomorrow

    1. I'm Ok with it. I think the lack of snow is what makes me less than satisfied because it is so brown.I hope you all are on the mend.

  2. Your house looks very nice. I don't put a lot of expectations on myself for Christmas, so anything we do is gravy. We put a fake tree up the Saturday after Christmas, as well as set out the Christmas quilts I made. Friday, eldest DS picked up the younger ones at school, picked out the real tree, then took them out for sushi...on Dad's credit card. When they got home we decorated it. It looks great. I don't put lights up outside--nobody to see them, and I hate the waste of electricity. I will wrap the gifts, bake treats, and make Christmas cards at leisure...all activities we enjoy. I don't go to parties, but do go to my kids' concerts which I fully enjoy. Color me odd, but the last thing I want to do this time of year is leave my family and my prettily decorated home.

    1. That should be "We put a fake tree up the Saturday after *Thanksgiving.*"

    2. Oddly-I never even noticed you typed Christmas instead of Thanksgiving! I like how you think-the extras,m if I care to do them, are gravy. I do enjoy how it all looks though once done, but no need to stress.

  3. the decorations look very pretty. I'd love to see a picture of your village when you have it put together. I love seeing these.Well done on getting even half your list done, there is only so much time in a day and time spent with others is important too.

    1. I'll be happy to share. It's not super elaborate-just a collection of houses/shops/churches etc. I received as gifts over the year from my family and God daughter. I haven't added anymore in years as space is a premium, but I enjoy it.

  4. You're way ahead of me as I am only in the list making stage!! The tree is up but not decorated - my daughter does that and on her own schedule but it does have its lights on so it still looks pretty at night. All other decorations are out and about, inside and out. No baking done yet. No wrapping done yet. Still some shopping left to do for 3 people. Yeesh! I think I need a nap!

    1. I refuse though to be stressed about anything this year!I'm already ahead of last year, other than my messy house, but with a few things knocked off the lsit, I can relax each night and enjoy the lights.

  5. You've done well with helping with the food for the funeral. That is how I get my wrapping done - one part amaretto, one part Christmas TV show/movie and one part wrapping.

    1. Saturday was not productive on the home front, but I sure was busy. I also had to pick up poinsettias and deliver a few. I like your thinking-make a night out of it.

  6. Having a late November birthday means that I try to leave Christmas until this stage in December. However I've got a nice pile of presents starting to collect and we've already started the Christmas catch ups with family and friends... Jx

    1. I sort of blow through my birthday the end of November. I don't want to rush time, but I long for November to end.

    1. I talk a big talk-ended up too tired to even have a drink and settled for just a glass of water to hydrate-so dry everywhere, but now raining, and then snow is supposed to come.
