A Day of Music 2018

Our little town on the river participated in the second year of A Day of Music, or Fete de la Musique as it is called in  France. Originally celebrated in France in 1981, June 21st is a day where people are encouraged to use public spaces all over to make and enjoy music. Out town started at 7:00 yesterday morning and went until 9:30 last night.  DH and I went down to the riverside park and listed to the 7:oo-8:00 band, a really talented group of teachers that have a small band. The lead singer teachers middle school math and is also in our church's contemporary worship band. The drummer works with our high school drum corp and teaches in several schools. There was a 30 minute break and then another band followed to close the night.

Our river walk was renovated abut four years ago and is quite a place on a perfect summer night for a concert. The park was filled and bikers and skateboarders woudl pause on the path behind the pavilion now and then to listen. It was quiet on the river, but a couple boats passed by. We ran into many people we knew. The ice cream shop Scoop Truck and a new BBQ truck were in the lot behind the amphitheater style seating, ready to fill up anyone who needed a treat.  I hope our community keeps this tradition going. Next year June 21st will fall on a Friday. I might just have to make sure I am off work for the whole day.

Isn't this a great venue for a summer concert? The temperature was wonderful and the scenery calming. The huge g\Great Dane was enjoying the music too. Her mom to the right is also in our church's worhsip band.

A boat pulled a water skier. I managed to get this picture, but the skier is hardly visible.
I tried to get the sunset behind the bridge, but was a few minutes too late. It still was lovely.

  1. Musical concerts in parks, during summer, are a blessed phenomenon. It's an all family and worldwide happening.
Lovely photos of the band, water, boat, bridge, sky!

    1. The 7:00 was very well attended. Less at 8:30 but still respectable. I don't know what day looked like but I bet it builds momentum.

  5. The Fête de la Musique here now lasts about 10 days. I was going to write a post about it actually but haven't had time to catch my breath. I did however take a photo of one of the many pianos that are put out in public for people to play (while they are waiting for the bus and so on). This one is right on the lake and there was a lovely video of a Swiss police officer playing it the other day. I think music does make life better doesn't it!

  6. What great pictures. I like the idea of people coming together to share music, community and the outdoors. So glad you got to go.
