Subtracting another third pay check month for me and increase check at years end when I've fully funded my 401K, (total approximately ($5,750) our monthly savings target is now $3,486, up from the beginning of May by $374, over six months. We've been paying some of the vacation expenses along the way and the Roth retirement fund was fully funded.
Both May and June had and will have seasonal expenses, so I'm working to keep the average spending down, and will continue the humble meal approach, and not over buy items unless a very good deal. I did end up keeping my May household and grocery to $382.50, so just $2.50 0ver target. I'm off to another expensive first week of the month though, and will write about my June plan in another post.
Croissant and Baguette Fund: This is the collection of loose change, aspirationally being applied towards the delicious croissants and baguettes we plan to eat on our trip. I wrote about my change plan here. Saved in tea tin is now $19.99, an increase from last month of $2.61. Je voudrais encore deux croissants, s'il vous plait.
I like your croissant fund. Last summer, I visited Sofia (Bulgaria's capital)and I practically lived on croissantes. They were so cheap, and so delicious! In the morning I used to buy several at the nearby supermarket's bakery ,and celebrated the whole day(with or without coffee attached to them).
ReplyDeleteI can almost taste and smell them! Mine will be with coffee.
DeleteLove the croissant fund :) The pastries and bread were sooooo good in France. Choir is so expensive! Hopefully your daughter appreciates all you do for her in that regard
ReplyDeleteIt's a little gimmicky, but hey, what works. She's a good kid, and I think she does appreciate her opportunities.
DeleteIsn't it fun to save up change for just random treats!
ReplyDeleteIt's more fun than just collecting it to deposit to think it will be turned into a treat.
DeleteI have a piggy bank made out of a coconut shell that I bought on the west coast of France years ago. I put all my 5 Swiss franc coins into it and when I get to cash them all in at the bank when I have 250 Swiss francs THAT is my croissant fund - although that would buy a helluva lot of croissants, but I'm sure you get my drift.
ReplyDeleteNow you get to plan where you will apply this pseudo windfall. Maybe you'll meet up with me in Paris?
DeleteI'm telling you, the change jar adds up!!! I wish ours were for a croissant fund instead of the dentist fund........sigh.
ReplyDeleteSomeday soon, your jar will be put towards a life highlight. For now, think about the improved quality of life.
