Diet and Healthy Living Update

I realized I did not update since I posted about starting an official diet a couple weeks ago. I didn't gain this last week, but nothing was lost. To eating too much clearanced Easter candy and not planning meals well enough, I am not being good to myself and my health. I'm back to planning meals around a calorie count and will aim for not more than 1200-1500 per day. If I can eek out enough extra walks and other exercise to burn a few hundred calories, I should get on track for the 1-1.5 pounds per week I was aiming for. The weekend was not as cold and rainyish as first predicted so I at least got outside a bit more than originally thought I would, but not what I could have. I wasn't all slothy and glutonous, though need to make the better habits part of my new norm. A few success the last week are below.

  • Big pot of chicken noodle soup with extra vegetables made for Sunday supper was portioned into a few lunch meals and tucked into the freezer. I also resisted desert at my nephews birthday part. I am not a huge fan of birthday cake or ice cream anyway, so why I usually have some at these family things isn't even giving myself much of a treat.
  • I've time splurged on myself the last couple mornings to make a wholesome, yet lower calorie breakfast. Saturday I made two poached eggs on a seedy piece of toast. The last two mornings I've made plain oats, but then just put a small amount of brown sugar plus fruit. this has more staying power and much less sugar than the instant packet variety I usually go for.
  • I set the music on Saturday afternoon once I was home and ready to get busy and tried to increase my steps while getting items moved and ready for the floor guys on Thursday.
  • A Sip insulated water bottle was in the last Fab, Fit, Fun box. I was going to keep for myself, and use the cute bottle to keep me drinking lots of water during the day. I love the whale design.
  • At DD1's suggestion, I found a couple yoga videos on YouTube to watch down stairs on the big TV instead of just the lap top. I actually tied a couple out. I'm still finding my exercise groove.

I don't like that my clothes are snugger nd my energy is lower. As April ends, I don't want to waste another month ignoring my declining health. I have too much to look forward to in the coming month and years to not take care of myself.

  1. I find that getting into a routine is the key step. For me, I have a couple of healthier eating options (I use salad as the base for most of our meals, given our limited options with M doing keto) & also finding a time to consistently work out, even if it's something quick in the morning. I struggle to get that groove going once I get off track (trips, early meetings, etc). Good luck!

    1. I'm not in a good routine-there is no routine right now to my days. I agree with you and am hoping for that groove.

  2. I hear you - it is so much easier to be active when it's nicer out. Weight is a constant struggle for me. I lose 5 gain it back then start over. Hubby and I started a regime right after Easter, we hope to both lose a few pounds.

    1. Pup has been loving his walks which is good for me, sun or no sun. The struggle though is beyond just a few pounds-I really need to lose for my health.

  3. I seem to be losing and gaining. I have been too busy to walk and eating way too much Easter candy also.

  4. I'm yo-yoing the same couple of pounds and it's because I just haven't been exercising willpower. It's something I need to get serious about because I only have about 10 lbs left to lose to get to my goal weight! So this should be the easy last stretch but for some reason it's proving to be the hardest. I guess I'll just have to do what I can to keep exercising (that part I've been good about, at least) and watching the calories again.

    1. Willpower on tempting items, plus exhaustion at end of day are my worst weight management issues.

  5. What with all the travelling I've been doing since January my weight has been all over the place too (hallooooo - Italy!!!) but I seem to be getting back into a groove too and I realize I need that routine. I signed up for Slimming World online but have just cancelled - not because it doesn't work - it probably does - but because I can never follow anything! But from my highest I am now down 10 lbs so I'm hoping it'll keep going in the same direction. I had yoga today and I think I really have found the form of yoga that suits me. By gosh we worked on arms and shoulders today and I feel all weak and wobbly (in a good way) tonight. So stick with the yoga if you can - it may take time to find the form of yoga that suits you best. Good luck!

    1. Yes, but you have travelling to show for a pound or two. I have nothing! You are motivating me though-10 pounds hopefully in the next two months.
