Days of Our Socially Distanced Lives V 10

This is likely a very abbreviated update of what my  life is like this particular Friday and Saturday. Since recognizing I have multiple  symptoms of Covid on Thursday morning  that started the day before, I have pretty much quarantined myself, including walking pup in avoidance of areas I might  meet people. Nonetheless, this is life right now ad I am doing what millions around the world are doing on any given week.

Friday November 5th

My sleep pattern, part daylight savings clock change, part too much late night watching election results. is messed up. I had fallen asleep way too early Thursday night, woke up shortly after 1:30, fell back to sleep and was pulling myself up again at 6:30. PUp was taken out and fed and I made coffee I did a quick Friday  W post, and it was time for work.

We have our agency wide staff meeting Fridays at 8:00. It ended early which was good as  I was swamped with messages from a project mailbox that I needed to anwer, and the shared Covid Testing box was overflowing. I needed them all responded to before 11:00 when my new hire would be hopefully back home with his equipment and set up. The poor guy-it was a technological nightmare of a first day working remotely. I think eventually resolved by 4:30.

About 9:00, the home Covid Test came. I had been drinking coffee so needed to wait 30 minutes, nothing in my mouth, before doing the online appointment. It was pretty slick and took less than 10 minutes. I followed all the  guidelines for packing biohazard, my spit, and did venture out to the UPS drop box. I handled it with a alcohol wipe, making sure not to touch any part of the envelope.  Here is what it looked like. I should have taken my own pictures, but wasn't in the mindset to think about doing that.

It was an efficient system, I still had the cough and sore throat, but nothing worse than Thursday. It will go overnight to the lab, and then 48-72 hours  results should be emailed. I grabbed just some meat, cheese, and crackers and a banana for lunch, and kept on with my work day, intermixing trying to get IT support for the new staff. I took a break at 4:30 as pup needed to be walked and I wanted to go while still light, but got back to finish up work; by 5:30,  I was more than done. I made an easy goulash with  the other part of the cooked hamburger  made the previous day for the cottage pie, macaroni, a can of diced tomatoes, onions, and 1/2 a can of tomato paste with water to  blend it with the tomato juice. I added lots of  garlic, Italian season, and onion seasoning. It was a nice comfort meal.

It's odd wearing a mask in your own house, but I am doing so. DH and I stayed in separate rooms, talking a floor apart.

Old picture, but looked like this.

At 7:00 I logged into Zoom for my Mom's Club Book Club. We are using this app, Bookclubz, so clever and a free resource to organize our club. Last night we discussed schedule and format and books suggestions. In the app, there is a place to recommend books, and do a poll, so that will be how we pick our first two books. This will get me forced to read for pleasure and an activity again for one Friday night a month. It will be nine, quite different women-and I'm not the only one with an almost non-teenager, but then there are a couple women who are still in their 30's. I like the age range in a book club. I ended up not having a drink, other than Crystal light-alcohol and a sore throat not a great combo. I ended my night with the latest Season 8, British Baking Show. Netflix doesn't call it the Bake Off-not sure why.

Saturday, November 7th

I had another weird sleep night, then up for hours overnight.  I was hungry at 4:00 so ate leftover goulash. Once I fell back to sleep, it was near 8:00 before I got up. Pup was not having DH take him out and get his breakfast so  I got up. The Little Prince! I was a bit wobbly when I first got up-throat quite sore and voice raspy. However, once moving a bit, making myself some coffee, I felt no worse than yesterday.  We had a light mist of rain, which disappointed me because I still had that rug outside, and the plan was to haul it in today. I left it to dry all day. I took the pumpkin face plaque from the doorway and swapped it for this Thanksgiving plaque.

The rest of my pumpkins and scarecrows stayed out-they are part of fall harvest and  the lead up to Thanksgiving. There are no leaves left though. Here is our front yard  tree-looking quite sad. No squirrel nest this year, but I know I have one in the tree in the backyard.

I spent my morning listening to the ongoing election coverage in the background while doing the stuff of life, laundry, dusting, and sweeping. At 10:24, CNN called Pennsylvania, and projected Joe Biden as President Elect. Now we will wait weeks and weeks for legal actions, and temper tantrums. I hope it only is temper tantrums. I will stay off social media-not the time to do any fueling. The CNN commentators were very emotional. I had to take a look at Fpx, and surprisingly, they were no ranting about  fraud, just covering the results.

Back to my life, the new vacuum cleaner belts came so I got that task done and vacuumed the house.

Lunch was fruit, yogurt and granola since I ate lunch for breakfast eight hours earlier, breakfast for lunch seemed fitting. Earlier, I roasted the chicken bought last weekend, 2/3rds to be used later in the week, but I shredded two pieces for  a pot of chicken tortellini soup and saved all the drippings, plus put  a little water to get the remnants for the pan. That will be supper tonight. After I took pup outside for a bit. I decided I needed to take a ride on Penny-well, I was very sore, and it was a very quick ride around the block and park. Muscle aches could be COVID, arthritis, or age-or laziness of late.

I changed the television background from election coverage to college football in the background and hauled the rug in. Once  vacuumed it looked pretty good again. That's going to be it for today. The rest of the afternoon will be walking pup while avoiding people, and this and that around the house. We’ll have soup with bread-I texted DH to stop for a good crusty loaf. I’ll find something to watch on my own distancing from him. Maybe I'll try and find one of those classics tonight I recapped last week. So how have your days been?

  1. Here's hoping you just have a cough/sore throat rather than covid. I have no idea how I would deal with my son at home if either of us got covid. Fingers crossed for you!

    1. It will impact my husband more if I'm positive as he'll need to quarantine and test. Wish me negative thoughts.

  2. Sending you negative thoughts! I hope it's just a pesky cold. Re your front tree, my mother used to say she thought the small branches on a bare tree looked like lace. I always smile now when I see them. Get well soon, Celie

  5. I certainly hope your test is negative. I felt achy with a sore throat for two days and feel much better. I did not even want to think about covid19. I am amused that the dog wants you to walk him. Age related arthritis is not fun. I have no specific type, just age-related. However, enough sleep and no cold or any illness are the cure if there is one.
Come back and guess my charity again!

  7. Hoping your COVID test is negative. To respond to your comment about Netflix not calling the British baking show the "British Bake Off" as they would in Britain---the Pillsbury Company owns the rights to the name Bake-Off from their days a number of years ago of sponsoring a national baking contest. In the USA the name Bake-Off can only be used by Pillsbury. That is why the British show goes by a different name here than it does in Britain.

  8. I am sending every negative thought I possibly can your way.
I am so with you on the disrupted sleep. It takes me a while to get my mind and body adapted to the new time/llack of daylight

  9. I hope you're feeling better- do you have a temperature? The folks I know with Covid that were over 50 all had temperatures. The younger one always did not- my daughter's niece and nephew who are grade schoolers had cold symptoms but weren't real ill. Also, one of my grandson's college friends came home with it to recover and quarantined in her bedroom- Mom brought her food on a tray and they all avoided her. No one else (2 siblings, Mom and Dad) got sick. My son says small spaces are the worse for spreading it and if you can, crack a window. Get well!

    1. I go so few places and mask up, handwash, sanitize etc. I really would be surprised if positive, but with so many symptoms and going out to vote and stores with people without, it's possible. Daughter or DH could have brought asymptomaticly. I'll feel reassured knowing.
