Friday W's-The College Kid Returns Edition

I'm on the road as soon as my 8:00 staff meeting is done. DH had my oil changed and filled up the tank last night and got my freebie gummy bears. I will have both a bottle of water, and a travel mug for coffee ready to go. I am happy to have her home, and we will do the precautions as suggested when a new person enters our Covid bubbles. She tested on Wednesday and was negative but  we still will be mask wearing in the car. I'll update tomorrow morning on the new restriction sin Minnesota and adaptations needed for the next four weeks. AS I wrap up m week, here are my thoughts sin W's.

What's top of mind: More positive news on the vaccine front is a positive sign. The mouthwash  test though-not so much. Sure, rinse a mouth might get rid of the germ for that moment, but hardly going to keep  a Covid Positive person from spreading unless they will swish their mouth before every word they speak. I worry now people will take the bait and think they can just carry around mouthwash, swishing and spitting at random.

Where I've been: Two outings for the house. I grocery shopped at Aldi on Tuesday, and Wednesday DD2 and I got a rive through hot chocolate and headed to the river and downtown for a beautiful nights walk. I felt energized yesterday after sleeping well. (Today-not so much.)

Where I'm going: I am on the road as I sadi about 260 miles from home. The plan was to arrive by 1:00, which gave her an hour after her class to get things packed up. She texted that sh ei slikley to need anther hour so I am going to bring my lap top along to check messages. She requested I bring a  garbage bag for a plant. I did see there was some planting activity on campus.

What I'm watching: I've got two  series I am watching now and no doubt will be done by Sunday with both. The first is the Netflix series, Queen's Gambit. If you ever thought chess was boring, imagine it on speed and tranquilizers. I'll say no more. Hate on me if you want, but so excited that Season 4 of The Crown has started. I've got some bingeing ahead of me. I'm also staying tuned to Season 8 of the British Baking Show.

What I'm reading: For my book club, I'm about finished with  The Hideaway by Lauren K Denton and I'll finish this weekend, not last as I had thought. I set aside for the weekend and didn't pick up again until Wednesday night.

What I'm listening to:  I'm streaming alternately BBC World Service and Minnesota Public radio. I am fighting the urge for Christmas music, but that might come on the radio while driving four hours.

What I'm eating: We were lazy this week! Frozen pizza one night, prepared bolognese another, and tonight's plan is a gyro kit. I'm revving myself up for a full Thanksgiving meal to prepare on Thursday.

Who I'm paying attention to:  I can't help but pay attention somewhat to the news and the fact that the Trump campaign has now lost 32 of 33 challenges. The whack a doodle ramblings yesterday was so incoherent, and even if  there is even a thought of credibility, seeing shoe polish run down a top lawyers face during a press conference, and a women  voting conspiracy started seven years ago by a man that is dead, was enough to think it was MADD TV.

What I'm planning:  With changes ahead tonight, I'm just trying t plan how the next four weeks will work with more restrictions, DD2 needing good internet while I'm also working from home. I'm thinking about how I want the hosue to look for Christmas, and thinking about using this weekend and Monday to do a make do for now refresh on both bathrooms. We are hard on a house.

That's what  I'm experiencing and thinking about this Friday. I'm very happy to have the college kid home, when most colleges are suggesting the students stay put. I think that is more because they aren't transitioning to online. I think the back and forth is more the risk, and we have a plan in place. What's the W's of your life this week?

  2. What I am doing is nursing an abcessed tooth and taking antibiotics! I am sure you will enjoy your daughter being home, even for all the wrong reasons/problems we are having. I laughed when you said you all were hard on a house? What on earth have you done to it?

    1. I'm sorry-I hope you feel better. I mean just regular wear and tear-marks on walls, and things breaking like faucet handles.

  3. The Queen's Gambit is next on our watch list, though right now we are watching (for me rewatching) The Crown. TheHub had never seen it. Our new Covid entertainment is to watch a series from start to finish, but TheHub will not binge watch so we watch one episode per day.
I watched The Great British Baking Show while upholstering. I still have several episodes left which works perfectly since the really difficult upholstery job is still looming.

    1. There are so mnay series that look good on streaming-ones several reasons old that I was not even aware of. My daughter just found Designated Survivor, and the premise is scary!

  4. GS will be home Wednesday but I won't be seeing him this trip. DD actually preferred he stay at school because they are open, but he really wanted to drive home and is having a covid test too. He's only about 100 miles away so not a bad drive and he has his car at school. I imagine he'll leave Saturday to go back until Christmas break. I have all my Christmas decorations up but the tree- I decided I'd forgo a real one this year and ordered one online. It was nothing fancy and just $100 so I can always donate it next year if I decide I don't like it. I really like a cut tree but need help getting it up. What a strange year since March!

    1. I think my daughter made the good choice to come home and stay. A few freinds were going to be going back and forth, but it sounde dlike essentially so they would stay in their off campus house. These are more friends of rinds-so second tier. Her close friends are better decision makers.

  5. Have a safe trip - and how lovely to have your daughter home safe with you. I haven't followed all the different lockdown set-ups in the States so I will be interested to see what Minnesota puts in place. Regarding the vaccine, I was chatting this afternoon with my friend that retired from the World Health Organization. She asked me how I felt about the vaccine and I said I doubted I would rush to take it, even if it were available to me (highly unlikely anyway). But she was saying that she worked in the "vaccines" unit and she knew full well that it took two to three years for the side effects of any vaccine to become known, so she was hoping it wouldn't become mandatory. I don't see how they can make a vaccine mandatory actually but then what would I know!

    1. It is a scary thought to take something so out of the normal protocol. I'm sure I'll be on the end of the line as well-not particularly vulnerable, not in health care. I am already happy to have her home.

  7. It’s been a blah week here. My work schedule and my daughter’s school schedule were atypical and Im still not even sure it’s Friday! On top of my mind is my beloved boss’ last day and the store being left in limbo. We haven’t heard boo from our district manager but there is a store to be run so everyone is working above their pay grade now. Great business module, eh? I did a big shop today and combined with thanksgiving leftovers we will be good for awhile. The news said there would be shortages at the store but I saw no evidence of that. The county over from us issued a stay at home order but hasn’t closed anything so literally no one is paying attention to it, despite 600+ cases a day. Christmas music has taken over two local stations and our radio at work and I love it. My thrilling evening is going to consist of getting gas, filling my tires with air, popping into kohls to pay off my charge card, laundry and a hallmark movie. Enjoy your time with your family!
