Saturday Shape Up:Setbacks

I know now the reasons athlete's have recovery days. I may not walk without pain for a week. Granted, walking hours and hours a day is not athlete training, but same principle I guess. I'm sure I've got micro tears all over my body. Today, I'll not be walking a city, but will do laundry, regular house work, and resume normalcy.

This was the weigh in week so was aiming for 11 pounds weight loss, the pounds I gained sitting at home, I mean working from home. This was the first goal towards a minimum loss of 10% of my body weight. It's been rough. Grand total, 3 pounds. I've had way too many set backs; when I saw some progress, gave myself liberties when I did burn calories, by going out, eating high calorie food, and then getting too little exercise. But, I'm holding on to the fact that those 3 pounds are gone and are not coming back. I'll watch carefully, what I eat, what little white lies I'm telling myself, how much movement and exercise I'm really getting. And, I've got to let stress and poor mental health days stop turning into excuses for decisions my physical me regrets, which recycles poor mental wellness. That's become an unfortunate circle.

Keep cheering me on. I've got so many reasons to keep working to be in better shape. I won't let setbacks reverse my course this time.

Here's me in Julia Child's kitchen.

  1. Love your top in that picture! Having setback is really natural. I have weeks where I'm more in control of my healthy eating & working out, and weeks when that's less the case. For me, hormones & stress, as well as factors like traveling or routine changes, all play a big role in how consistent I am.

Congrats on the 3 lb loss!

    1. I like the top too, but not how it fits now. Stress the last few months has been high, but I'll find coping mechanisms beyond snacking.

  2. It seems to me that losing weight is more difficult as we age. Three pounds is a great start and I've no doubt you'll reach your goal.

    1. I guess if I lose at 3 pounds per two months, I'll have lost 18 pounds, not my goal or speed but that would be a right step.

  6. I think three pounds is fabulous! Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves and compare ourselves to others. I suspect you also have a pretty stressful job, at times. I know I do and that contributes to weight gain and overall mental health issues such as not being able to sleep and anxiety. You are doing great! Cindy in the South

  10. I finally went out walking this week for what must be the first time in about two months and boy do I know about it. It takes ages to get "in the habit" and about two hours to get out of it, doesn't it. But well done on those 3 lbs. That's 3 more than I lost!
