I had a long list of things to get done on Saturday when a friend texted to round the troups to stop by a fundraiser another friend was doing for Autism Acceptance. I shamefully admitted I had forgotten about it. It was a short open house/ raffle silent auction in the community room at the library and word was traffic was slow. It had picked up by the time we arrived, for the last 1/2 hour. We all got raffle tickets and "won" some silent auction bids. We got a picture together and our friend was so happy we came. The picture showed four friends, smiling together. What did I see?Three cute women and a frumpy, overweight, aging woman. I had to work to push the negative aside, and see the first version.
It's obvious I need to loose more than a little weight, but these ladies don't care. They see me and are my friends regardless of what I look like. I am trying so hard to choose to see, feel, hear, the good stuff and not wander where the darkness easily traps me. These friends do that for me.That's the mindset I write this week's Positively Tuesday post in no particular order.
- Joined friends for trivia and my daughter was able to come too. It's a good thing she negotiated Fridays off as she still would have had late days and several Saturday's to work. We've been a smaller group, but it's been fun to catch up each week with two of my oldest friends.
- Reconnected with colleagues in other states for a semi annual project meeting. Even though virtual, it still was nice to connect other than reports and emails and have people remember you by name.
- I had fun prepping for tomorrow's blog post, looking at ingredients from a roll forward perspective. I even took pictures. You'll just need to wait another day so contain the excitement.
- Saturday turned out to be a sunny surprise. I cracked on my list with sun streaming through the house.
- I was happy supporting my friend as she has put so much into Autism Acceptance month for April, a cause so near and dear to her.
- My daughter shared a really good idea for her non-profit and is building activities and events now that there is more opportunities. She was excited about this (really good) idea and I hope it moves forward. I love hearing excitement in my kids.
- I needed a head shot photo for my work anniversary. My daughter took an ok shot of me, better than the one on file at work taken by communications. I loaded it for Teams as well.
- Sunday dinner was relaxing, even though I was busy all day. The sliders and salad were a hit with DH and I felt good about my portion control.
- Monday was another beautiful day. Pup and I had lunch on the deck. He found his sunny spot. I rarely move away from my computer when eating but I deserve that time to myself.
- While minimal, I put out a little Easter decor, plus this table runner and these guys. I may add a bowls with colored eggs before the weekend. My bunny and chick salt and pepper containers are adorable.
That sounds like a lot of lovely positives, Sam. Don't be so hard on yourself - we're all ageing, far better than the alternative! xxx
ReplyDeleteIn some ways, I need to be harder on myself as being complacent is how I let the weight come on. You are right though, aging is denied too many.
Delete10 great joys there Sam! It made me sad that you saw those things about yourself in the picture but I'm glad that you do recognize others do not look at you or think of you that way. I hope it gets easier to push the negative thoughts aside. Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteI'll always see my flaws first. It's what I do. I just then try and get in with life.
DeletePositives are what we need. It is so easy to tear ourselves down. Remember if you lose weight, you will get more wrinkles!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo that's been my plan- stretch my skin and look wrinkle free.
DeleteA lot of women think they look rubbish in a photograph, but actually others don't see the same things, they see warm eyes, shining hair, pretty shaped mouth and smiles.
ReplyDeleteYes, I notice that in others. It's hard to give ourselves breaks.
DeleteIt sounds like a great weekend, spending time with family and friends, as well as getting the things on your to-do list. That is a cute table runner!
ReplyDeleteIt's sort of a small runner for the size of table, but I only keep for a bit.
DeleteThey don't care how you look! I've always been slim (too skinny even in earlier years) and so most all my friends were larger then me. I never looked at them as too big or how they may see themselves.
ReplyDeleteI know a very thin woman who has commented that she feels uncomfortable around regularly sized people. We all are who we are. I let myself get this way, so that's partially why pictures bother me so much.
DeleteGood friends are just happy that you could make it. Sounds like lots of positives!
ReplyDeleteShe was very happy we came.
DeleteI enjoy your posts and don't think of them as negative.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do get down some days so try to remember the good.
