W's for A Perfect Fall Weekend

Cute downtown store window.

Good Saturday morning. Yesterday was a well needed day off if work. Despite the plumbing issue, the day went well. The beautiful sunny day sure helped. Here's my week in W&s.

What's Top of Mind:

Family and friends are top of mind, for those things that have remediation everyone's working at solutions. DH's friends memorial, Celebration of Life, is November 19. My sister texted that her sweet older of the two shitzu dogs passed away yesterday. She was nearly 15, and in poor health the last year, but they gave her a good life. The younger, 12 year old will sure miss her big sis, as they came from same mom

 Where I've been:
I took the grandpup to the river while the plumber was here. It was a great way to start the day. Crisp and cool, and nice sunshine. The pictures below were from yesterday. Trivia was Wednesday and if course always fun when you're the winners. Church and some light grocery shopping was Sunday's big day.

 Where I’m going:
I'm meeting the mom friends this morning for a river walk and then for coffee, or possibly a late breakfast or early lunch. All five of us are open, at least until 10:45. I'll take it!  We're going to church tomorrow. DH hasn't said if he's open to the reformation gathering after. I guess I could go myself.

What I'm eating:
We had the leftover cracker ranch chicken last night with baked potatoes. It was a nice meal with no prep! Tomorrow is going to be pizza night, just a frozen one. We had brats one night, and a thrown together tuna rice and cheese hotdish another. He made hamburgers on Thursday. I've had TJ mini pizza and bagels for lunch, along with the apples my daughter and I picked two weekends ago.

What I’m watching:
DH and I have been watching the College Bowl trivia show, followed by the CA Fire, but last night DH suggested the new Hallmark movie because it was set in Alaska. Well, some mountain footage but the rest looked like a studio set, lol.  It was a nice peaceful Friday evening relaxing. I've not yet watched the final House of Dragon's and I'm stuck at episode 3 on the Rings if Power. My friend at trivia assured me it will get better, but I think it's been boring so far.

What I’m reading:

Terrible me, nothing really. Actually I've been reading lots of online articles about dogs. We're now convinced grandpup is part border collie and part greyhound. He looks just like many pictures and the description of  behavior sure shows like him. Not sure it matters, but any hints that help us manage his growth and development gives me more sense of control. It likely doesn't but I can pretend.

What I’m listening to:

As I type this, I'm listening to one dog chew on his toy, and the other grumble, grumble. DH is still sleeping, but he'll be up soon, then I'll hear the shower.

 What I’m planning:

Sister's day/ overnight next weekend! I'm very happy excited that all eight, seven sisters and our sister- in- law, can go. As is tradition, we'll toast our sister and wish her a happy heavenly birthday, as she would have been 65 on November 2.

Who needs a good slap:

Employers that treat their employees as an afterthought or worse. A friend shared on Wednesday that after her vacation, an interim CFO basically told her she is horrible at her job(despite glowing reviews and clean financials). She resigned the next day. Then my daughter's employer had an error with direct deposit. Her boss had a shrug emoji in his text message. She's not in to get a paper check, and when she gets in Monday there's going to be a delay to get it deposited and be available in her account. As her mortgage is direct pay on the first, she had to move funds. Fortunately she has reserves but the shrug emoji was a bit lame.

Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump):

The plumber did a great and efficient job, getting in and out in an hour. He resolved a different issue in downstairs bathroom too. We learned the leek upstairs caused a fair amount of floor damage and ceiling damage to the bath below, and we may have grounds for an insurance claim. I'm leaving that to DH to sort.

What’s making me smile:

I had a wonderful two hour call with DD2. She's on the 10 week count, or rather I'm on the 10 week countdown to when she gets home. She had a slight break from classes and was going to use the weekend to just relax, read, and maybe explore another new to her area.

There's sure to be lots if action all weekend with bars hosting Halloween parties and community events. We've never been Halloween party people. DD1 is with friends, but I think they're more doing haunted hayrides and movies and less bars or parties. What are your plans? I hope you enjoy whatever they are. Feel free to join in with your W's.

  1. That was really lame of your dds employer with the shrug emoji. Peoples pay is not something to shrug about.

The photos from the lake are beautiful! I can see why you enjoy walking by the river.

It’s so sweet of you to honor your sisters heavenly birthday. I hope you enjoy your time with your other sisters and sil.

    1. My daughter was pretty frustrated. It did give her an immediate sense of relief and understanding of under buying in terms of what she could qualify for on paper, for bher house. She took the 6 month living expenses saved absolutely as gospel- plus, money set aside for emergency fixes. Granted she'll get paid, just late.

  2. I agree with the who needs a good slapping. During my management and leadership course, it was impressed upon us who are the greatest resource in any company - that is the people. When you treat your workforce like crap, then you get crap.

I understand the loss of a sister. I miss mine daily.

    1. I've already moaned myself, but both my daughter and friends experience really were something.

  3. Yay for mom friend time! It is so important. I also watched the Alaska movie last night, I thought it was cute. Jodie Sweetin has been through a lot and I resonate with her political beliefs a lot more so than other actresses who shall remain unnamed ;) so I’m happy to see her doing well. Really haven’t been anywhere but I have a 25% off coupon for Big Lots that expires today and I plan on stocking up on some household essentials and maybe looking for some Christmas gifts. Thoughtful spending but there’s quite a few things we do need. I was supposed to go to my nephews first birthday party today but he is sick and they had to cancel. He’s the one that was born with a birth defect and has diminished lung capacity, obviously I’m worried for him. Knucks to my big boy for turning 21 and for me, who pushed his 8 lb 11 oz booty out. I may do some baking tomorrow, I found my recipe for pumpkin gobs and can’t stop thinking about them. Slaps to my store manager. Enough said on that. JoAnn

    1. The mom time was great! Less walk, more breakfast and laughs. I hope your nephew gets better. He's been through so much in his shirt life.

  4. Gosh I hope the flood damage isn't as bad as you think, although if you can claim on the insurance I guess that's a positive!

    1. It's likely not going to be covered. It's not so bad that they'll say it's house wear and tear. Both bathrooms are in the list to update anyway.

  5. My sister's first heavenly birthday is November 3. She would have been 68. My other sister will be 72 on November 2. I live too far away to get together with her. I hope you have a great time with your sisters.

  6. That's sad about your sister's dog, I hope your sister's weekend will cheer her up.
Your daughter's boss sounds like an idiot, how old is he? 14? Thank goodness she has savings.
Beautiful shots of the river. xxx

    1. She describes him as someone who takes credit for others work, bragged about his raise while their salary structure is still being reviewed. He's a ladder climber on the backs of his team. I feel so bad for my sister.

  7. I am in full-out slap mode right now. SO many I wish to deliver. That shrug emoji was wildly insensitive. And this is why people "quiet quit." Although, if I understand "quiet quitting" it means that employees are not longer accepting the concept of performing tasks for which they are not compensated. (ie: working late, taking work home, assuming the duties of an absent worker without commensurate pay.) Enjoy your time with your sisters. I miss mine madly.

    1. I was in quiet quit mode Friday on my flex day. Yet, I took two calls, responded to several emails, and made life easier for several people. I'll be trying to withhold slaps this week- but know it's going to be a rough one.

  8. After your hard week, your weekend plans sound lovely.
Your daughters dog certainly sounds like an interesting mix. Our across the road neighbours have a greyhound and honestly its the laziest dog I have ever known. Boarder collies on the other hand are the absolute opposite, so hopefully you will get the best of both breeds. Megan.

    1. It's so hard to tell. He's got tons of energy, but after a long walk or a good ball play, he's tired. But then he'll not nap like other dogs, pups do. We'll see. He's so cute though. Our pup as a senior is pretty lazy these days, but has spurts of puppy

  9. I have never been to a bar or drinking party on Halloween. When you have kids, the elementary school Halloween carnival is the fun celebration. Does your dog try to herd you? My Border Collie did. She tried to keep me from going into the house! It was so cute how she tried to push me away from the door with her snout once I managed to get to the door..

    1. He's stood and blocked doorways, but he's still pup so it's more about wanting to see. In younger days we went to parties, just one of us never drank if we did.

  10. Good for you for meeting with the mom friends. If the men-folk did this they would live longer and be more happy.
