Really Late and Brief Thrifty Thursday
I'm trying to be more intentional with the parts of my life that have finite limitations. I've chosen to track Time, consumable resources, and money. There was not much to write about this last week, but here's a few little wins for a week that was anything but frugal. Shower gifts and foods, extra gas in the car because of the snow and cold, hours spent prepping for both, and I'm feeling very lean. Extra motivation to do better in the coming weeks.
Time
- I maximized my time in prepping food by using the crock pot with the chicken and seasoning, I slightly over cooked so the chicken shredded easily. I bought already prepared taco meat at $1.99 a pound.
- We were nearly out of TP, I know, hah? My stop at the store was not a time saver, but I also picked up odds and ends to once again use the trusty crock pot to prep supper for DH, which would yield supper for us tonight with a salad.
Resources
- I made really good use of the shower leftovers, bringing the leftover cheese cake to work, and eating variations of chicken in recipes. The black bean and corn salsa with the chicken made a really good chili. I sent food home with people No waste.
- I found at least one other coworker willing to do the organic recycling. We are going to start in April when we actually can start to compost, though she already does.
Money
- I had a doctors appointment and could not eat first, while I could have saved by planning ahead much better, I used a buy a breakfast sandwich get a free coffee for something after the visit. Under $2 for a large coffee and breakfast sandwich was my deal.
That was about it. I maybe had a few others, but this week and the next month is going to feel a bit chaotic at home and work. I'll just try not to be wasteful even if I can't really find savings.
You really did make good use of all the leftovers. I never go anywhere it seems where I can have leftover food. I need to compost, but cannot here unless I get one of the barrel things. Stuff goes into the trash that I never threw away before.
ReplyDeleteUntil we get warmer weather, I won't start, but we are going to figure out the drop off thing.
DeleteGood job using the party leftovers! I have been trying to cook with just enough leftovers for my lunch the next day. It is hard for me to do.
ReplyDeleteThere would not have been as much had the weather been better. I ran out of lettuce shred and we did not have enough guac!
DeleteGreat work making sure the leftovers got used up! That's always a challenge for us.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll have taco meat for some night when I just can't think of anything. served with rice and just canned tomatoes it is pretty tasty.
DeleteYou did great. Happy Valentine's day- I gave my 4 grands $50 each and some homemade goodies to the 2 locals and am delivering a few treats this morning to some of my clients. I have always enjoyed the 'holiday.' Menu tonight just for me is cast iron pizza. I got my second fresh produce delivery yesterday and need to make a plan for all the vegetables. Last week I pretty much managed to eat it all- couldn't quite finish the kale and arugula- but I did OK. Now I have a spaghetti squash and savoy cabbage to use up. Do you have weekend plans?
ReplyDeleteThat's a generous Valentines gift! We have a wedding so that is our plans.
