It's going to be another sweltering scorcher in Minnesota today, with promises of a good old summer thunderstorm. I like heat-I'm a three season kind of gal, with a speck of December winter thrown in. I hate though when the temperatures combine with the thick soup of humidity to where nothing outside is pleasant, unless submerged in a lake. I might be being irrational, but this would the second weekend after my brother-in-laws family were at the major sports event in Milwaukee. If any of them were to be in direct contact with a positive case, that would have been a sure time for it to have happened. We may go up tomorrow for the day, the 14th since their trip, where we can spread apart and not ever be inside.
At 11:59 our Minnesota mask ordinance went into effect. I tried to get sweet corn yesterday, but was too late as they sold out. I did get a delicious looking watermelon before they packed up, and they gave me a cantaloupe that had a soft spot. I'm going to slice that up for DD2 and my lunch along with some chicken salad-love it! I ran into the Kwik Trip for milk, bread, eggs, and bananas and noticed an increase in mask use from previous stops, even before the clock struck midnight. Maybe there is hope if we all participate. After I post this, I'm getting some laundry hung up, and am going to try again for corn. We like to eat ourselves silly with it for about a 2-3 week period, this years seems a bit early, and then I get some more to freeze. I love a good corn chowder in the fall and winter. I have a cucumber from Aldi last week, and if I can get a yellow onion and tomatoes when I stop for corn, I'll make the cucumber salad that I think about all summer until produce is ready. Those of you with gardens, enjoy!
Other than hoping to take advantage of good local produce, laundry, and general house work, I've no other plans today. I might start a new book or do something more lazy like read a stack of old magazines that I have. My sister invited people over for cards and hanging out-I'm on the fence. Her husbands uncle, who is an age contemporary and a nice guy, is in town and wanted to have a card night. I like playing cards when it is just the girls as the guys take it too seriously and don't like to play the funny twisted poker rule games we play, like Follow the Queen or Change the Diaper, and In Between. I could write a post about all the version of cards we play-and for real money! We could go over to visit for a bit and say hi to him, but if it is storming or before the storm, people might be just inside, though my BIL has a pristine garage they use for entertainment and we could spread out more there. DH on these hot days is likely to just want to stay home-the heat and humidity wipe him out after a day at work. Every day I keep thinking in my head about how we could make a March retirement a reality.
DD2 has to work at 3:00 and then close-same tomorrow. She actually came home from the school yesterday not feeling well. She had a small group anyway, but of course you go there right away to possible Covid. She did not have a temperature, and after resting for an hour and rehydrating a lot, she felt better and ate a decent supper. I think she was dehydrated, and having been called in the night before to close the restaurant after she had worked all afternoon at the school, she was also a bit exhausted. She felt so bad about going home-guilty almost, when she was feeling better by 5:00. I think she did the smart thing by coming home.
I'm off to drink my coffee and the washer should be done by the time my coffee cup is empty. I took a picture of how I whisk up the milk-just because. How is your saturday shaping s far? Is it hot and sticky where you live?
Hot and sticky here too. I have cleaned up the kitchen, put away an Amazon pantry order, taken trash and.recycling out and folded 3 loads.of.clothes that were waiting in baskets. Still have more to do including laundry, cleaning bathrooms, etc. I also need to get Rebecca packed for camp as she goes tomorrow to a local camp for the week. Ohio's mask mandate went into effect on Thursday and while I haven't been in a store, most of the parents at the playground yesterday had theirs on. Hope you have a good weekend and stay cool!
ReplyDeleteI hope she has a great week and a safe one. Are you taking precautions when she is back, like having her get a test , or having her wear a mask in the house. I'm just so not sure what to do with all of the factors when a household member is potentially exposed to so many more people. I didn't think it was weird seeing people out and about with masks. I hope my daughter doesn't get a lot of grief form mean people at work.
DeleteHot again in western PA. Supposed to be less humid, but I don’t feel it. I was drenched after simply sweeping off the back porch and sidewalk since hubby cut grass and weed whacked yesterday. Need to pick up my prescription, stop at the liquor store and will swing by a graduation party later. I will be outside and probably won’t eat just to be safe. They say it’s supposed to cool off into the 60’s tonight and be dry so we’ll have a fire and sangria. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI ended up stopping at Aldi and got a Gyro Kit, and I think that, with a few cocktails and a movie might be our Saturday night. I'm puttering between playing on the ocmputer.
DeleteYep it is hot and sticky and will be hot and sticky almost every day until at least mid October!
ReplyDeleteGlad your daughter is feeling better! Every single sniffle has me wondering is this Covid.
I remember New Orleans in June and July, so can imagine I wouldn't be a fan of Alabama's heat and humidity. She is good today-still feels guilty, but she was just exhausted. I think She was asleep by 10 and for a 19 year old, that is early.
DeleteHot here but not sticky. It's get sticky down by the lake but we're ok up here at altitude for the most part. My son had my car so I knew I wasn't going anywhere anyway so an awful lot of "nothing" (reading) got done today. And yes a March retirement sounds lovely! I hope it works out for you!
ReplyDeleteWe got a rain yesterday afternoon, but it did't bring cool air. It's raining now and even the dog isn't up to put a foot out to see if the humidity is still heavy. Maybe mountain living is for me, but then i'd get snow more often.
Deletewe're really cold downunder lol! big frost this morning. but the humidity sounds tiring. glad DD is feeling better today, its hard not to worry at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to play mother hen even though she is 19 and make sure she hydrates better. She is done to just four weeks left of her summer and while making good money is nice, she doesn't need to burn out. A frosty morning hike sounds exhilarating right about now. Are you all staying safe in Australia (or are you NEw Zealand)? I wish we had learned as well as you all have.
DeleteThe day was magnificent here until 3 pm, right when we came home. Then, a bit of rain, lots of thunder and lightning. The humidity was palpable. But, that is Alabama.
ReplyDeleteI suppose like we are forces to get used to the sub artic temps you all figure out how to stay cool in the humidity. We need to figure out where we will eventually settle for winters-or not settle if that is best.
