Monday Spruce Up-Healthy Dose of Sunflowers

On Saturday, I tagged along with my daughter and her friend and headed about  45 minutes north of St Paul to explore a Sunflower field. I had never seen an entire field of sunflowers and this was spectacular. I have a dozen or more photos, but this gives you a taste. The price was not expensive, but wasn't inexpensive so I guess about right, at $20 a car or $10 a person. The farm had a lot of  photo op settings throughout the walking paths, made with hay bails. It seemed like those visiting were doing their best to social distance, some wearing masks even though outside, and we didn't see any signs of  people abusing the field. It was hot and humid-we were pretty drenched in sweat after the walk from the car to the fields and back again. All and all, it was a nice diversion to a bleak summer of cancellations, even though the skies threatened rain all day. I even snapped a selfie, something I am never comfortable doing. Sprucing up my attitude and accepting myself, flaws and all, is an ever present goal.

A sea of sunflowers.

Under a sunflower umbrella.

I thought this little version was adorable, mixed in wiht it's big siblings.

Thi was a field with flowers just beginning to open.

Don't they just look like they are smiling!

  1. I remember our "round Europe trip" when my in-laws came over in 1991 (I think) and driving up the west coast of France passing fields and fields of sunflowers. They were stunning. And what a lovely way to spend a day (note, that sunflower seems to be looking at you saying "you're doing it wrong, you're not getting the right light")! Sorry that's my Gary Larson-esque sense of humour!

    1. They did seem to have living personalities. I have oodles more pictures. I tried to get some bees but they just didn't cooperate.

  2. Sunflowers are my favorite! Looks like you had a good time. Sunflowers are always happy. I have tons of decorative items at home with sunflowers. You couldn't help but notice if you walked in my apartment.

    1. I wish I had more-and the next time they have a bunch at the store or farmers market, I'm bringing home a bunch for inside my house. I loved the pillow at their little market stand but at $25, not a needed purchase.

  3. The sunflowers are gorgeous. And you wear them well! Until this year I'd plant a few in my small plot, but this year I tried dahlias. That's been a failure, so next I'm going back to sunflowers.

    1. I think that is what I should try next year. I wonder if I will have luck since they also will grow wild?

  6. So pretty! I would love to know if there are any fields like that near me? Those would make for lovely senior pics (thinking ahead for my daughter who is going to be a junior this year) as our school colors are green and gold. JoAnn

    1. This farm was near Rush City. My daughter googled and found others, so maybe? There were a lot of teen age girls posing. Some super sweet baby pictures as well. I think they have a photographer fee of $25.

    1. There was one flower that we could see the inside and how the seeds come out. My daughter and friend tried one-I passed.

  9. I have them across the fence in the side yard. I love them especially when they start seeding. All kinds of little sunflower seed loving birds pay us repeated visits

    1. I bet the birds are happy! The bees were buzzing everywhere, but it felt safe as they had much better thing to pay attention to than people.

  10. Driving through North Dakota 3 years back we saw massive fields of sunflowers. I was like "WTF?!, this isn't Kansas, right? Then we passed a massive sunflower processing plant. Yep, then it made sense. lol Enjoy your heliotropic friends.

    1. I've never seen a massive field like this. It would be visible form a main road as it was a bit of a trek.

    1. It looked like there were multiple fields in multiple stages. I would suspect the last field, the partial open picture, will be fully colored within two weeks.
