2020 continues to be the oddest year, hopefully for my life. Dropping our daughter off at a masked campus felt odd, but it was good to see her reconnect in person with her friends. She got moved in pretty slick, but bless DH for the added wear and tear on 59 year old legs up and down three flight of stairs. My efforts to make the most of our time, resources, and money this past week involved both the rush of getting her ready to move since she worked full time last week, plus a Saturday shift she wasn't supposed to have, blended with the last couple days being just DH and I, well and pup, in the house.
Time
- It was a whirlwind, but we got the kid packed, even after she spent the morning and early afternoon seeing off friend. We made good time getting on the road by 8:00 and home by 6:30, leaving her to set up her room how she would best like it. I am sure they will rearrange a few times. She starts classes today-one in person at 8:00, and then a later afternoon and one night a week one on-line.
- I've been enjoying Penny, trying to at least get a short ride on her each day. It has been hot and muggy, but the breeze from riding feels good. I plan to be adventurous and bike to my daughters next week.
- Pup isn't feeling well. I think it is part missing his girl, part heat, and I think he has been eating grass. We've both been giving him extra TLC and he has returned with affection.
- We didn't get take out on Sunday, and instead made curry, and a steak sandwich for DH with the other half of the potto from curry (large potato) into arif ry chips. He said the sandwich was very good. I ate leftover curry on Tuesday and froze a portion for another day.
- Monday night I made DH a BBQ sandwich with the pork chop left, though we were tempted to gt pizza. I just nibbled on things we had in the house and went to bed early. We used up odds and ends and that was resourceful.
- The inventory of our freezer and refrigerator was a good way to make sure I don't waste-so I am putting it here. I am hoping for no spend days until September.
- We didn't stop other than for a bathroom break either on the way to or from the college. so no expensive snacks and beverages. I packed bottled water, iced tea, and rootbeer, plus granola bars, pretzels clementine, and bananas. We just had Jimmy Johns for lunch, so not totally frugal, but thy were filling. Besides nacks I has packed for her room, I left my daughter with a couple bottle of water, a banana and clementine for refueling later.
- I topped off my car at $1.88 a gallon. and the next day it was back to $1.99.
I bought pale pink velvet curtains for the French doors in my bedroom and saved 20% by buying online( they didnt have the right size in the store). I then had them delivered to store and collected them when I took my mum shopping, so no delivery charges. They are beautiful and make my heart sing, and were a very reasonable price, even before the discount.
ReplyDeleteWe had an expensive meal out on Saturday (first "date" in six months out), so have been trying to make up for that.
ReplyDelete-All other meals eaten at home
-No sitter for the kids (this is new, & my husband is still uncomfortable, which cracks me up, because our oldest is in high school :-))
-Lots of garden produce in our meals
-We've done a fabulous job of eating down our freezer, mostly due to the kitchen remodel. Either way, lots of frozen prepped meals.
-Continued listing/selling things on eBay, although slow going & not too many sales over the past couple of weeks
-Purchased a few one time investment replacements for disposables (face washing rounds, qtips, feminine products). We'll see how that goes, but I'm hopeful they are both better for the environment, and potentially frugal in the really long run
I am too tired to think, but being ill means I am not out spending right now...lol. I did have KFC and felt better. We have been eating from baked chicken and peas I cooked along with fruit, carrots, and stuff I cannot remember.
ReplyDeleteWow your gas is so cheap. We are paying 2.49 here.
