Just a Quick Friday W's

It's very early but not bright yet-I'll get to enjoy another gorgeous sunrise. I am using the mobile hotspot in little increments, but I have no idea how long I will have connection nor how much data it uses up and we will later need to pay extra for. I will get caught up on blog reading Sunday night-but I have through my cell phone done  a bit pf reading.

What's top of mind: Relaxing is great, but it also gives you a lot of time to think and talk when for the most part you only have one other person around you for a week. Top of mind is figuring out how DH can either retire in the next year or drastically reduce his work schedule and get his weekends back.

Where I've been:  Pictures to follow later but yesterday was all about the hiking, as best we could with a 20 pound dog along.

Where I'm going: Today-into town for a brief pic p of items I see are needed  here so I can give a good clean before we leave. We'll likely get a take out for lunch since I'll be in town.

What I'm watching: We brought a stack of movies and have settled in and watched a few over the week. We watched The Martian with Matt Damon, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and the newer Star Trek-I had never seen.

What I'm reading: I brought with me Jay Swanson's Sea of the Unknown an effort I had backed through Kickstarter. I had rad when it came, but probably more a cursory review more than absorbed. I am fascinated by young ambitious goal seekers, willing to take a lot of hard lumps while not settling for low expectations. While vastly different, I've been reading with thinking of post career life-daring to create something different with th elast 1/3 if I am lucky, or at least 1/4 of my life.

What I'm listening to:  Really nothing this week! The neighbor cabin has had Minnesota Public Radio on so I hear a bit of that. We didn't even turn the radio on yesterday when we drove to the state park.

What I'm eating: Grilled ribs, chicken and burgers, lots of veggies and hummus, and chips and guac! We have been really easy chefs here. We picked up a massive Take and Bake pizza that fed us twice, even with DH's enormous appetite that is even bigger when at the cabin.

Who I'm paying attention to: I didn't hear the debate between Vice Presidential candidates, but I hear Pence was as big of an interrupter if slightly less rude, than his president. Some people were posting that Kamala Harris was smug, but gee, what does that mean anyway? I won't even get started on the double standard descriptors of powerful and proactive women as often demeaning and hateful.

What I'm planning:  We plan to be here until Sunday morning, giving the place a good clean up and ready for anyone else in he family that will spend some vacation time or a long weekend here. I'll make sure all towels and bedding (in our room) are washed and put back, everything dusted, swet, and mopped. Sunday at home will be getting mail gone through, our laundry done, and a quiet reentry to work on Monday.

That's it for me. I didn't even down load any pictures from the camera yet. What W's are happening in your world?

  1. What’s on my mind? Covid. Our county is spiking, our district has an outbreak. Currently three schools are shut down but I fully anticipate the all of them closing within a week. It’s mostly staff members, however six boys were absent from my daughter’s English class on Wednesday. Coincidence, maybe. We have not been contacted by the school or the health department. Also a coworker of mine, who showed up sick to work on Sunday and we sent home, is student teaching at one of the schools that has two cases. Again, we haven’t been contacted at work, but it seems imminent. It feels like the world is closing in around me. JoAnn

    1. I'm sorry to hear that. Closed schools completely are tough. I hope your family stays healthy.

  2. My phone service shows how much data I have left at any given time, so I know if I'm getting close to going over.

    1. We supposedly have unlimited but it slows to a snails pace with too much use.

  3. Thanks for mentioning that book - I'm in book-reading mode more than ever right now so I'll take a look. And you're right, basically a confident, competent woman is basically a "bitch" or a "ball-breaker", but I'm sure it's all water of Kamala's back!

  4. Sounds like you are having such a lovely trip! I'm so happy for you. And, I love easy meals when we are on vacation, although do enjoy cooking, so sometimes mix it up with more complex meals as well.

    1. It's the clean up I'm trying to avoid as well. I feel we've been eating moderately healthy too.
