Days of Our Socially Distanced Lives-V 6

Friday Evening Fire.

This will need to be a different kind of  "Days" post, since both Friday and Saturday will be filled with lots of walks and wanders, book reading, a little  horrible embroidery work, and a few  treats. The pictures may be out of order as well, so apologies.

Friday October 9th

I was up early-total dark outside and inside, started coffee and decided I'd use the hotspot to do a little blogging. DH brough pup up to hand with me, but he was quickly back to sleep (DH went back to bed as well). Dogs aren't allowed in the cabin, though we let him sleep in our room on a blanket, coming in and out the lower level door so he isn't going through the house, and he will lay right next to the patio door in the little porch area. We imagine that this what BIL and SIL do when they are here in cold weather months as well.

I got out a journal book, though I use them just like regular notebooks, but I do put dates down so my lists, calculations, and other thoughts I'm working on are captured. I guess it is sort of a journal that way. This week has been a lot of number crunching on how it possibly could work for DH if not retire full time by next summer, at least enough that he has his weekends back. I can tell that being here this week, he feels like he misses out on the space as often he just has a Thursday up here, and then Sunday, but with two work days in between, nothing that feels like a regular break. I know, tiny violins for a First World problem, but I think he has aged so much in his 50's, much more than he should have, having had a minor stroke shortly after his 50th birthday, and then several bouts of bad flu/virus/whatever as it never was truly named.

I also took out the embroidery project-this is what I've been working on. It is an attempt to get a hobby that requires, at least for me, calm. My stitching is so poor, it's likely to come out with one wash, so I'll call these decorative towels-if I finish them.

Shh-no looking a tthe back stitche.

A few hours into the morning, DH had made himself a huge ham and cheese omelette. That didn't sound appealing but I wanted to use the guac before it turned brown, and thought a couple over easy eggs with  avocado toast made with the baguette sounded pretty good. Late morning I made a list for a few miscellaneous items to get the cabin cleaned up, restocked lemonade for DH, and a couple odds and ends to finish the week. I was going to run this errand myself, but DH thought we should have a late lunch in town somewhere outside, then get our things. I played ball with pup to get him good and tired before we left him in the porch with water. He zonked before we had pulled up the hill.

We ate at a sport bar in the little tiny town before the slightly bigger town. We had to walk through the bar to get to the outside seating-no one was maksed, of course as they were drinking and eating, but even the bartender/server was maskless despite it being the supposed rule. She kept back when she took our order outside, so at least appreciated that we were mask wearers!  We were the only ones outside, odd since it was 77 and sunny.

Reuben Sandwich and chips-too huge to finish. DH had fish and Tots.
Empty volleyball courts.

It got quite warm-I almost regretted not bringing my swimsuit, but the water was nice to wade in. Pup had a ball splashing and watching the ducks and seagulls. Later I spent time dumping pictures from camera and phones onto My Passport, hard drive while having a couple vodka lemonades-I guess it wasn't just to refuel DH. I read some more, took pup for a walk, and later we made a fire. Supper was more just snacking-ham and cheese, hummus, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes. There was still a burger from the other night, and I heated that then cut into fours like sliders. We had our movie night, this time The Road to Perdition, but I was pretty tired by the time we started it, I half dozed. I'm not used to fresh air and cocktails daily.

JOurnal notebook and vodka lemonade.

Saturday October 10th

It is DH and my 33rd wedding anniversary. We won't be celebrating even with a dinner out unless "out" means take and bake pizza on the deck. That's fine with us. We did buy a bottle of wine at a nearby winery on Tuesday so will have that later. My morning started with coffee wrapped in a blanket as October came back. I did a mental check to what needed eating up. I am leaving some canned/packaged soup, hot chocolate, and salad kit behind so it's here if we do a late fall or winter drive and just want to refuel or warm up. I heated up the second naan and the left over palak paneer for my breakfast and DH ate the last two eggs. No waste even on vacation. I pretty much just read until we  made pizza at 1:00.

I dusted the cabin furniture and did a light clean of the bathrooms we didn't use. There's always a tinge on the bowls from the mineral rich water so keeping them scrubbed helps the bowls not stain. After that was done I cleaned out the refrigerator and washed the shelves, leaving them better than our arrival.

Nice and clean-most left by others.

Pizza lunch.

More ball playing with pup, another walk, and more reading and soon it will supper-left over chicken and pizza, and our wine. Tonight will be a final movie night and off to a final sleep. I'll wash bedding and towels, vacuum, sweep and mop before we head home by 12:00. Vacation for all intents and purposes is over.

Last duck photo.

  1. We have similar ideas of a lovely vacation - your trip sounds a lot like how I would spend my time at our vacation house. So glad you had the time off, and the time together. Fingers crossed on the retirement planning!

My husband is early 50s & I'm starting to notice a more visible slow down (he would deny it with his last breath), so I'm hoping he'll continue to dial down the pace at work.

    1. DH turns 60 on his net birthday. The plan was he would retire at the first of the year following his 62nd birthday, which would make it three years and almost three months. We're trying to modify the plan to at least get him working less hours and more weekends with no work. Minimally he's decided he will take three sets of four day weekends net summer-that's a start I guess.

    1. Yes-now doing the final cleaning, which isn't much since we cleaned up as we went along. I have my coffee and my morning view.

  3. First, let me wish you a Happy Anniversary! I am so tired of people who are supposedly required to wear masks for their jobs to be maskless. I know it is not comfortable, but come on! We are all a little uncomfortable and I will trade comfort if it offers me some protection.
I love The Road to Perdition. Hope you enjoyed it even if you were a little sleepy.
Have a great final sleep there and a nice trip home!

    1. I was particularly unamused when she still came to take our order not wearing, when we clearly were!
