Ugh, this feeling good Monday is a hard No this morning! I just do not feel good today. I have a cold, or allergies, or some bug that has my head full of snot and rounds of sneezing that are giving me a headache. We had a little thaw, plus I helped my daughter clean out her car and drove mine this weekend after it has sat for several days, so it very well could be allergies. I took an antihistamine and will see if a few hours if I experience relief. Plus, I am feeling the impact of daughter heading back to school. I hated the feeling when the older two went back after Christmas, but they both had J terms so stuck a bit longer into the cold weeks of January. Last year of course I wasn't working from home after she went back and I was getting together with my sisters and friends. I woke with a little stomach bug as well-though I suspect I did that to myself by eating an whole bag of microwave popcorn for my supper last night. Yeah, I'm just not feeling good this particular Monday, but it'll get better..
I need to give myself some help to boost my energy and get our of the funk. It may or may not help but these are my Monday mood lifters for today.
- I have a few hours this afternoon between meetings, so will get outside for at least 30 minutes of it. Real sunlight and fresh air is something to look forward to.
- A few minutes of yoga after the walk before getting back to my desk.
- Have a good wrestle/play with the pup. I can tell he is missing his other human too.
- Write down a few more birthdays, anniversaries, or other dates to remember in the calendar as reminders of the good things.
- Lunch will be Tomato Red Pepper Soup from Trader Joe's and a couple clementine's. Like a hug from the soup and pop of energy from the citrus fruit. I'm going to avoid bread of all sorts today.
- Drink ice water with lime throughout the day. I also made up a strawberry-lemonade Crystal Light for the refrigerator so I stay good an hydrated today..
- Strip the bedding and wash it so it is fresh tonight when I crawl into bed. I do have a second set of sheets that fit, but I tend to just wash, dry, and replace at once.
- After the dog is walked and fed tonight, give myself a long shower or maybe even a bath and then slather myself with lotion. I think that will help me sleep better tonight. .
Oh poor you. I think antihistamines can knock you out also can't they! Well maybe at least you'll get some decent sleep and feel better tomorrow (especially in a clean bed - I just love new sheets)!
ReplyDeleteBenadryl will knock me out, but I use Clairton, so I do pretty well during the day. The shower and fresh linens did wonders for my sleep.
DeleteHope you're feeling better soon. Monday's are hard enough when you feel good.
ReplyDeleteI am better-thank you. Sneezing got better, still a head full though. Now to get through Tuesday!
DeleteI try and actually go to bed early...not fall asleep on couch or chair. Drink many fluids, eat light but also have protein and some fat. This past year I have added a daily zinc supplement as a healing precaution......seems to be working! Hope you feel better soon. I think stress plays a very large part in our health. Maybe try those small cans of chicken bone broth if no homemade available.
ReplyDeleteI do have frozen turkey broth-good idea. The tomato soup tasted really good-as I said, like a hug. I've been taking a women's multi vitamin along with my prescribed vitamin D. I'm hoping this was just a small cold/allergy blip.
DeleteHope you start feeling better. When I feel that way, I usually take a long hot shower and treat myself to hot cups of tea. Curling up with a good book and taking a long rest help as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree and the shower did wonders! I was in bed by 8:00, though probably a while because of reading and text/call before going to sleep.
DeleteSounds like you have a great list of things to help you feel better. I sure hope it's just allergies and passes soon!
ReplyDeleteI do feel better-at least the sneezing has lessened, so the antihistamine did the trick there.
DeleteHope you feel better soon. I also usually wash dry and replace same set of sheets.
ReplyDeleteI hate folding them and this works for me. It was nice-not as good as line drying, but still nice.
DeleteHope you feel better! I just got a call from one of my coaches- I coordinate services for my clients who all have disabilities- that she and her husband both have Covid. She is young too- maybe 28. she said it was awful- cough, fever, chills and loss of taste. Her husband had a higher temperature than she did but both seem to be recovering and she has made other accommodations for our mutual client until the full 2 weeks are up. I haven't left the house except for 2 hours Christmas eve. Too scary out there now. I still have plenty of food so no worries there. In another week I might have to have daughter bring me a quart of half and half but that's it. I just got a text- no vaccine coming here at all this week. Here in Florida those over 65 can get the vaccination now if we can get an appointment! Good luck with that. Good news is our little cold spell is over and temperature will be 70 today so I can get a little vitamin D. It's no fun when the kids leave- I just try to make the most of the visit and not be like my mother. We'd no more get there and she'd start saying "You'll be leaving in a week boohoo...." We three sisters all left Iowa and my 3 kids all left our home state too. I actually moved here in 98 to be closer to one of them. She stayed here after college- my beach lover.
ReplyDeleteI think it is harder this year, sending her back knowing we have no concerts to look forward to in driving to see her for a weekend, no trips of our own. I truly feel trapped some days. I know-Boo hoo, me! I'm trying to get outside-it really helps.
DeleteI hope you feel better by now. Soup and lots of fluids can't hurt!
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the sheets. I see no point in trying to fold those unwieldy fitted sheets when you can wash, dry and pop them back on the bed.
I was almost sloshing by the end of the day, so surprised I stayed asleep most of the night! And, I'm lazy-just use the sheets and a thick quilt-no blankest and comforter to deal with.
DeleteHope you feel better. Sounds like you have some good ideas to take care of yourself. Hope you are able to get a good night's sleep
ReplyDeleteFluids and more fluids! The shower before bed, and I don't know why I don't do that more often, was probably the best action.
DeleteAw, sorry to hear you are under the weather, Sam! I hope it's allergies and clears up soon. My husband can't have popcorn - the fibre is too much for his system (he has a touch of IBS). Like you, I find soup is a great big warm hug to the body. I need to get outside and get my Vitamin D - I walk to work in the dark, and it's nearly dark when I leave.
ReplyDeleteWe have one set of good sheets, and do the same thing (we have an emergency back-up set, but they aren't as nice). There is nothing like fresh, clean sheets!
Your list is full of great things to do for yourself! If you end up having a hot bath, add a few drops of lavender oil for calming (it will also help you sleep). Take care!
I have some lavender pillow spray-use on occasion, but hubs doesn't like it at all! Yes, I was too generous with the popcorn and paid the consequences.
DeleteI know you might think I'm crazy, but if you like spice - make yourself a simple soup with lots of spices. I often just cheat and make an Annie Chuns sweet chili bowl. They're suppose to be Korean and it doesn't make a big amount but when I have allergy/sinus stuff, I don't want a lot to eat. These almost always help open up my head and help with the stuffiness. I also add Kikkomans Thai Style Chili Sauce. You can add that to homemade soup also. I need tissues before I'm finished and I can breath so much better after eating it. I hope you are already feeling better than earlier today. Take care. Ranee (MN)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand! I loaded my soup with black pepper-I too find spices help, not that pepper is necessarily what you mean.
DeleteI'm sorry you're feeling under the weather. All your plans sound really comforting although I'd alternate my bed set rather than wash and dry in one go when you're not feeling up to it.
ReplyDeleteAlways a bath over a shower if I feel the need for pampering! xx
Since I had to use the dryer and I wanted to wash the quilt as well, it was not much to do wash and replace. I worked a full day. I'm not much of a bath person-but occasionally I like to really indulge, but with a glass of wine. Was not having that so a shower it was.
DeleteI'm with you on the sheets (and, appears we're in good company from the other commenters). I have an extra set, but always just wash & remake with the one set we have.
ReplyDeleteI try to stick to basic food, lots of fluids, & fresh air, so it sounds like you have all of that covered. Oh, and a hot bath or shower, lots of sleep, and maybe a guided breathing exercise to really relax.
Hope you feel better!
I implemented my plans and do feel better today for it. These sheets are getting old though-for the kind of wear, wash, and dry, we use, so in the next year to two, I'll invest in a new set.
DeleteI am sorry you are down. I kind of knew you would be. It is hard to have an empty nest. I take a long nap when I don't feel good. I eat chocolate. I take a long walk.
ReplyDeleteI worked my regular day, so no time for naps, but did go to bed early for me. She texted then called, so it was nice to hear her happy voice.
DeleteI hate being ill! I cannot drink oj, so none of that! I drink lots of water, eat horseradish. That clears out the head. I do other things, but I don't feel like typing...lol.
