Friday Free for All-Covid Sucks

I was feeling better, but wait. My throat feels a little scratchy and that dryness that wakes a person up. My nose is gross as well. Crap! Yes, I got a message overnight that my test was positive. I'll need to figure out what that now means for isolation and how long but my Saturday plans are scratched.

My daughter has no results yet from her test Tuesday morning, but said she's feeling better and no close contacts tested before her had positive results.  What a way to spend her 21st birthday today. And, she was suppose to be in Spain. Double punch to the poor kid. She did get her gifts, so happy for that. Cross your fingers for her that she'll be negative.

While I've been staying out of the same rooms as DH, he's going to need to at least do the rapid test that came. My daughter too since she was here all day Sunday. This is our first go around with it. I'm counting on the vaccination to not get majorly sick, but since I feel better than earlier in the week, perhaps I've already had the worst. I'll keep you posted while I lay low.

Anything you want to talk about? I'll be here all weekend.

  1. Aw, I am sorry to hear that. My mom is dealing with a nasty cough and headachy/sore throat etc. She did a negative rapid test, but they are so few in supply she does not want to use another. She has been inside since last Saturday, and just is overall meh. I hope you have felt the worst of it already, and that DH/daughter are ok.

    1. The kits should have 2 intending that at least two are taken 1-2 days apart so encourage her to take the other. I may have already had worst and my daughter was negative.

    1. I think so. I'm a bit dry throated but otherwise good. I'm being cautious for my husband.

  3. The guidelines say to isolate until symptoms subside and then wear a mask when out and about. We are MOST contagious the first 5 days but can still pass it on.

I'm hearing that Omicron in vaccinated folks is more like a really bad cold/flu not with the usual covid symptoms.

    1. So far, you've described my experience. I haven't left the house ( other than to drop off kit and walk dog alone) since last Friday, and isolating from DH.

  4. I am so sorry. Hope the worst is behind you, and the vaccines/booster have lessened the impact. Hope your hubby stays well, and I hope your daughters test negative. Happy Birthday to your daughter, and I'm sorry about the quarantine. I hope she can celebrate in a few days.

    1. She's negative! He'll do the rapid test again today before work, but I've seperated myself since Monday from him and walk around covering my tracks with disinfectant.

  5. Ugh, hope you feel better soon! Gets lots of rest and stay hydrated. I think it’s safe to assume everything is Covid these days and that a negative test doesn’t mean anything. My boss finally tested, and only bc her kid got sick and yes, they’re positive. The store is going to have to close early today because I refuse to work tonight. I can’t work six days a week every week. I’m exhausted, still not 100% and just plain tired. Daughters boyfriend goes back to school on Sunday so tonight we are trying to make sushi at home just for fun. I’m not missing out on family time to go make a few bucks. My mental health is more important. My husband definitely tried guilting me in to going though. He can go work for me lol. How much snow are you supposed to get? They say we’re getting a foot and I’m not happy about it. Daughter is off school Monday so I took off to have a fun day and we’ll be snowed in. I’m concerned about my son getting to work, he just has a small car and he leaves early in the morning, usually before they treat the roads. Driving in PA is so tricky, especially in our corner of the state. There are no straight roads. So many hills and valleys and s bends, it’s like a child drew them out with a crayon and their eyes closed. And now there’s a shortage of snow plow drivers. Everything is a mess :) At least you will have super immunity now since you have a breakthrough case. As awful as it may sound, maybe everyone getting omicron is what we need to help eliminate Covid? We can only hope. JoAnn

    1. I'm glad you drew a line. They can close a day if they don't have staff. It's not a mom and pop shop. I'd say that too, but exponentially spreads so fast that for the small % that get really suck, there's still so many people ending up in hospital.

  6. Hugs to you, SAM! So sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed you are on the road to recovery & that your husband & daughters avoid getting it as well. I managed to avoid getting it, even when my husband had it, so it's possible for sure!

    1. So far, I'm on the "cold" spectrum of illness. Monday and Tuesday by far the worst. I cover my tracks with disinfectant.

    1. It is weird I got it but DH and daughter's not. College kid was negative. So dilemma- do I still cook my beans for soup? I'll wear a mask and if course handwash. I cooked before positive result.

    1. That's what so many are saying. Matter of time. I worry though about the roulette wheel for those who couldn't get vaccinated. I don't want anyone sick who chose not to either.

  15. So sorry to hear that. I know so many people who have it this time round that have worked throughout and not been touched by the other variants but this one has got in under the radar. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your daughter. Take care.

    1. I've been no where in a week other than doctor and short shop. It spreads easily.

  16. Oh my gosh, that's rough. I'm sorry you tested positive but hope your family can avoid it. I was supposed to pick my friend up from the airport tomorrow but she's just tested positive too and is now stuck in Spain for another 10 days!

    1. DH so far,so good. If this stays mild, life will resume on January 20th, the 10 day mark from symptoms, if I am symptom free. I'd hate to be stuck.
