Meals were had though DH was funny. He was happy to have me cook when I had a cold and waited for test results, then was " oh you shouldn't be cooking" on Friday morning. likely I was my most contagious before getting the results. Well, we still needed meals. By Saturday, I was at the six days from start of symptoms and felt fine. Confession though-I pretended I was sick and let myself sleep in, did minimal amounts of tasks around the house, and treated myself to a face mask, then watched rubbish on YouTube. Am I feeling guilty-not a bit! I figure I'm doing my part not to get actually ill and need any care. To be fair, I was very tired or my body wouldn't have let me nap like I did. In the meals area, I did plan last week, so here's what happened:
- Sunday: Assorted homemade mini pizzas- Pepperoni, spinach, artichokes, olives, haloumi
- Monday: Chicken and mixed vegetable stuffing bake, mashed potatoes
- Tuesday: Meatballs in gravy, rice pilaf, green beans
- Wednesday: Italian breaded chicken and a really delicious pasta concoction
- Thursday: Stir Fry and rice
- Friday: leftovers
- Saturday: Homemade Bean soup and saltines and for DH grilled turkey and cheese sandwich which he made himself
I can say there's nothing wrong with my smell or taste. I had the soup cooking all day Saturday and the whole house smelled of it. I'll make it easy on us this week just at the same. I'd rather he not do too much rogue shopping so only want specific items if I send him at all. Funny, he's texted me twice a day asking if I need anything at the store. He did bring me diet coke and oranges. I know he wants snacks for football today though, hence tapping into the Applebee's Black Friday gift card deal. He can get boneless wings and we'll get a couple entrees. Laugh all you want. Sometimes Applebee's hits the spot and leftovers are a given.
- Sunday: Applebee's car side to go, using gift card and bonus $10 card and should still have nearly $35 on the purchased card
- Monday: Crockpot pasta primavera
- Tuesday: Taco Tuesday
- Wednesday: Chicken, broccoli, rice and cheese hotdish ( put off from last week)
- Thursday: Hamburgers and fries
- Friday: Leftovers
- Saturday: Go out with other human beings!
This uses the crockpot a lot, is reheating things from freezer, or throw together in one pot or casserole dish. There's a few odds and ends needed, but even if he doesn't shop, we can improvise. I can't say I have a loss of appetite, but not feeling particularly hungry either so anticipate a lot of leftovers. If the case, I'll be stocked for lunches. What do you have planned?
Definitely rest as much as your body will let you. This is your body healing itself. Eat foods with a lot of nutrients to help the healing.
ReplyDeleteApplebee's is a great idea for game day snacks and food.
So weird- actually slept well Saturday night and still dozed Sunday. I guess fatigue is one of my symptoms. I have 1/2 my meal for lunch today and we only had the one meal yesterday so we stretched the Applebee's splurge.
DeleteEverything sounds great and I'm glad to hear you are taking it a little easy on yourself. Have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteToo easy. Today needs to be a bit more productive.
DeleteMy oldest son is a kitchen manager ( and cook bc so short handed) at Applebees a couple of hours north of me, so I am all for their to go food. Your menu sounds great! I just make hamburgers, or baked chicken and potatoes, for middle son, when I am in his town on weekends, because he has sensory issues and is very OCD. I will eat anything, which explains my rather robust size…. lol. I eat differently when I am at my work house and have a lot of beans, greens, and cornbread or rice…. and dessert. Hope you continue to improve and the tired feeling goes away. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteI love the fiesta lime chicken but wow is the calorie count high. I split into two meals. I'll use crockpot today so I won't need to handle food- it all is dump and go.
DeleteSounds like you're getting over Covid - in the meantime, rest as you need to. I think our bodies let us know when it needs to repair itself.
ReplyDeleteAs for planning, I'm a fly by the seat of my pants person when it comes to meals. Sometimes I'll make a list of possible meal ideas and work off that. I stocked up on groceries last week so there are lots of options. Today, however, I'm using up some frozen meat sauce made with spicy Italian sausage in a pasta bake. Tonight I'll decide what we're having tomorrow.
I've certainly been sleeping. I hope I get that out of my system before work week starts. I'm trying to plan better for health and finances. I've still got too much waste going on.
DeleteI'm glad you're feeling better now but good for you for making the most of it too. While I reckon my sense of smell has come back I'm pretty sure my tastebuds are still off as I made soup today and just kept adding more and more salt and spice. Oh well, it'll come back in due course!
ReplyDeleteMaybe my soup wasn't so bland after all and I just wasn't tasting correctly? I sure have slept a lot.
DeleteGet as much rest as you can. I like Applebee's to go, and what a fun treat when you aren't feeling that great. Your meals sound good.
ReplyDeleteDH enjoyed his burger and he had boneless wings so a happy man. We both had a little something for late breakfasts, but ended up eating a late lunch) early dinner so just one meal really yesterday. I should do that more often.
DeleteWe were supposed to have grilled steaks yesterday for our anniversary, but youngest, who is now the household "Grillmaster" was/is sick, and was napping. Since nobody else stepped up, at 5:15 I got annoyed, and quietly heated up leftover cottage pie for DH and myself. About 40 minutes later two other kids emerged, wondering what was for dinner. Well, ONE kid asked, the other fled. (I refuse to learn how to use the grill so it doesn't become another thing I am expected to do.) We'll try again for tonight.
ReplyDeleteI hope you got your steak meal. Curious that the one child just disappeared. I'm sure they survived finding their own meal.
DeleteGlad you're feeling better and continue to rest. Your body needs it. I'm trying a new to me recipe for pickle juice brined chicken that I plan to air fry. We'll see how it turns out. Enjoy your Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteIs your recipe like a chic fil a dupe? I'll be interested in how it turns out.
DeleteYou needed the rest. It is not like the days when you had children and HAD to be on your feet no matter what. So, get the rest you need. I have a pack of chicken breasts to cook today for the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteRight. No one needed me but pup. We got our walk.
DeleteI am glad you are resting and taking care of yourself. Rest is the best medicine as is plenty of water.
ReplyDeleteDoing both. It's weird almost to be able to sleep so much.
DeleteResting up is wise, let your body heal. All your meals this past week sound good, but the pizza with haloumi sounds excellent, Im going to try it! I like Applebee's, they have some good food. I hope you are fully recovered now and have a good week. Celie
ReplyDeleteOf course the haloumi doesn't melt like other cheese, but as a topping in pieces was so delicious.
DeleteI say sleep as much as you can. Even if you aren't feeling very strong other symptoms, give your body as much energy as it can to fight things off. Plus, it's nice to just have the break every now & then.
