Weekly W's in a Long Weekend

More horror in America and yet, no solutions. We can try and buckle  down, do our best for our family, but always know it can be snatched in an instance. I've been picking at this post off and on for several days, but scheduled to post Saturday. We'll be off line much of the weekend.

What’s top of my mind:

Tell me how we're supposed to feel safe unless we just pretend some demons actions won't happen to us? How do we close our eyes without seeing children, our neighbors, our elders, unless we intentionally create mental blocks? That's top of mind. I try not to use my blog to do political rants, though do on occasion I know, but this should not be political.  Everyone's family and friends are at risk of dying through some violence, regardless of politics as long as guns and money run this country, and mental health needs get nothing more than thoughts and prayers.

Where I’m going:

I guess if you're reading this on Saturday it's where I am, the lake. There's a lot of cleaning, but several hands. The small cabin needs more help as does the sleeping area in the garage. The dock going in, mowing and weeding Rick areas takes a bit if time.  That's where the teen boys and young men tend to sleep when we're full up. My daughter and I got bathe deck to rights yesterday, cleaning tables, bringing the chairs up, cleaning away dead bugs and bird gifts. It's ready for meals and relaxing. I also vacuumed and dusted main floor.

What I’m watching:

I've watched another few episodes of  Law and Order UK. The newest season of Death in Paradise has started streaming in Britbox.

What I’m reading:

I've got a start in both YaYa Sisterhood and A Theatre for Dreamers. This weekend both will be finished. I've got some magazine's to browse through.

What I’m listening to:

I popped an old CD in my car to avoid the news. A little Train anyone? It reminded me of taking the girls to their concert at the state fair back in 2013 right before my older daughter went to London for grad school.

What I’m eating:

Pasta salad and veggies! Not local yet, but it still is refreshing to give the hotdishes a reprieve. DH requested burgers at least for once weekend meal.

Who needs a good slap:

I shouldn't say this, but I will. DH needs a reality slap. He's yammering again about pushing out retirement. You know I was commiserating on Monday about delaying mine, but absolutely not an option for him. But, he can find something to do to get out of my and DD2's space in Thursdays.

What I’m planning:

Long work days. Down our data specialist and the other person who can help in the system is on vacation. Wednesday- Friday will be very long days. All summer will be long days. I hope to go outside some days to work, even if just to take meetings  where I don't need both screens.

What’s making me smile:

Babies and toddlers are everywhere, between DH's nieces kids, and his cousin's young children, there's 6 under five that will be at the cabins, and another due in August. I know my family will grow too when the time is right.

I keep using my phone to post as the computer I've been using has to be plugged in and then isn't reliable. I suppose I'll break down eventually and replace my lap too that died after just 18 months, but holding off until DD2's completely dies. I don't ever use my work computer for personal activities. This is to beg forgiveness for the even more typos, lack of comments in some blog platforms, and weird formatting. Please join in on the W's of your week.

  1. I remember reading Ya Ya Sisterhood and enjoying it when it came out. I also remember the movie being good as well.
Sounds like a lovely weekend ahead for you Sam. Enjoy!
The weather here is absolutely perfect and I plan to spend a lot of time outside reading, gardening and grilling. The perfect trio.

    1. I'm about 3/4 done- good reading weather with the wet and dreary moment. It's been a 50-50 weekend so far weather wise.

  2. Staring my W’s with a G for Graduation!! It was a beautiful night. The weather held out, everything was perfect. I’m relieved but sad it’s over and trying not to worry too much about the future. Pics in my insta story if you get a chance to check them out! Enjoy your time at the lake, we’ll be heading to one tomorrow. Raining and blah here today but Sunday and Monday look gorgeous and the heat is heading our way. I’m so thankful that we are done at public school. I know bad things can happen anywhere at any time but them not being in that situation is a great relief for me. I don’t think things are going to get better, maybe not ever. JoAnn

    1. Relaxing not so much, but hopefully future days will be. I only dipped toes in as the water needs some heating up, but the littles swam!

  4. I probably watch five hours of news each day. I cry when stories about Ukraine or school murders are on. Tommy thinks I am sensitive and not in a pejorative sense. So, this is definitely a political topic. But, THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL.
Maybe your husband is sort of getting cold feet about retirement, wondering about how he can justify himself as a man who does not work. I am glad you are working things out for him and yourself.

    1. You have a point- all politics are local and personal. I don't think he'll feel emasculated when he retires. It really is worry about the future and timing it right financially.

  5. I read YaYa when it was first published. I did not think it was great literature, but it was a fun book to read.
Hope you have a wonderful long weekend at the lake!

    1. I think it's a good enough profile in fiction about how and what influences us, but agree. Not a Pulitzer.

    1. We are fortunate to have the place to go too. It does get a little too family dramatic at times, this weekend no exception, but nothing beats the sunrise, swimming in a hot afternoon, or the fire when it gets cooler.

  7. I read the Ya Ya Sisterhood years ago when I lived in TX. After I read it, I noticed advertisements for lots of Ya Ya groups/clubs all over the place. (Nothing which interested me.) When we moved here, I accidentally checked out "The Sweet Potato Queens" on one of my first visits to the public library. As I read, I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the two books. Lo and behold, at the back of the copy I borrowed, there was a list of Sweet Potato groups. I distinctly remember that one was only about 25 miles away, and only open to plus sized women. I remember little of the content of these books, but was struck by creation of organizations which require you to pay in return for friendship/fellowship. Bleah.
Good luck with your long work days in the coming weeks. I'll be thinking of you as I force myself to box up things in this place. Double bleah.

    1. I don't think you can buy a clique. I wouldn't pay for a Yaya or sweet potato membership. I suppose I'd attend an activity or two to meet folks if I was newish. Good luck getting your packing done.

    1. Great reading weather this morning. Gray clouds and wet! We had bunches of us reading in places all over the cabin. DH grilled some terrific burgers for lunch.
