Friday Free for All - In Need of Good Sleep

Happy Friday! I'm still loving the weather this month. We had rain early morning and it's still a bit drippy, but the weekend looks great. It's Free For All day, no themes, no cycle of topics.

Sleep Issues

We all had rough nights sleeping the last few nights. DH has developed a bad habit of staying up too late on Wednesdays, before his day off, then taking too long of a nap on Thursday. Then when we all want to sleep, he's restless and gets up and down, using the bathroom doing the pointless wander, checking things. Our floors creek- really creek. We try telling him it's problematic, but haven't gotten him out of this pattern. Poor DD2 got woken up, then couldn't fall back to sleep for her 3:30 wake up for work. Part of this was her own disrupted sleep cycle after her road trip, but it impacted me as well.

If he does sleep regularly, I better make sure I'm asleep before him or l'll take me hours to fall asleep. After he woke us up last night, I just slept in the family room. Not a good sleeping couch. I know people can have odd sleep patterns, but it's tough when they disrupt others, or need tiptoeing around their schedule. I've got that with my three housemates right now, as the girls get up so early and need to be able to sleep. Admittedly, I've had to use a break for a cat nap a couple days to keep my concentration.

Weekend Ahead

Both girls are gone this weekend. DD1 is starting a vacation week. More on that in a future post. She is going to a concert and has an out of town friend staying with her at the cabin a couple nights. DD2 has plans with highschool friends, spending the weekend at one of their college apartments about 90 minutes from us. I guess there's a music festival they have tickets for. We'll go to the cabin Sunday for a both late and early birthday celebration.

DH works and that means I have the whole house to myself on a weekend day. My to do list is longer than my arm. There's not a room that doesn't need a top to bottom cleaning. Then there's purging and closet and drawer cleaning long over due. I've got miscellaneous items in the fridge to use up, so not even sure I'll go to the farmer's market. I envision everything clean and tidy, but the day isn't THAT long.

Looking Forward

My daughter has all she has to have done or in her possession for her study abroad program. Now she needs to concentrate on getting her packing list leaned for what she actually needs. I've got big projects ramping up at work, so my week off in August needs to be used well as it will be tough to take days later. We still though need a week off this fall or I'll have my vacation accrual issue. DH has two weeks as well to use before end of year. I know- use our vacation!!! The smart time manager is our older daughter. No official word from DS on travel. Maybe we'll just get a call to pick him up at the airport.

That's where my mind meandered this Friday. Please don't be a stranger and share what's up in your life this weekend.

This would have been better if a dog, but
this fits my daughter to a T.

  1. The temperature and the humidity have gone down here a bit so it is a beautiful day. I'm so glad I decided to work half a day today. It's just too gorgeous outside to be stuck at work.
    Enjoy your Friday!!

    1. It was wet all day here, but I still got pup out for a good walk after work- even wore a sweater.

  2. If Tommy walks in the kitchen, the ceiling pops/creaks in the other end of the house. I am not sure what that is, but it never wakes me that I know. I just sleep my 4.5 hours, and that is it no matter when I sleep. He is very quiet as is his house, so no need ever to worry about him waking me. Daddy woke the whole house every night, going to bathroom, coughing, going in and out of the house, so I am glad not to have to sleep through that. I would worry my daughter might have an accident driving sleep deprived.
Snoring would keep me awake, too. That is why I have to be good and never go to prison. It would be too peopley for me.

    1. I too am confused on the creeking. Yet another good reason to not do the crime! Lol- your prison comment made me laugh. My daughter was fine. She had napped earlier in the day and then had a good two hours before work.

  3. Interrupted sleep is just not a fun thing to go through.
I laughed about your daughter waiting to get things done. I am a horrid procrastinator so I get it. Solidarity!

    1. She will be running around the day before! She gets there in the end, with help if course.

  4. We also have terrible sleeping habits in our house. I can function on a few hours sleep very easily so this is not much of a problem with me. I am hoping to have time this weekend to finish a book and watch 2 movies I have had on my DVR for months. I also will be enjoying my favorite hummus brand that Kwik Trip started carrying. Not the cheapest but oh so good.

    1. Another Kwik Trip shopper- it's so convenient to grab little bits there. I'll look for their hummus.

    2. It is Water Street Deli brand, it is made in Eau Claire, WI. They also carry their pita chips which my daughter calls crack chips since they are so good.

  5. I also have a long list of projects I'm behind on this weekend that need to be dealt with. Saturday I plan to do a cleaning on this bathrooms and mop the house before spending time to catch a movie with a friend in the afternoon. Sunday will be spent catching up on the rest of the list I don't get to do Saturday morning. Have a good weekend!

  7. I’ve always been fortunate to have another bed to go to when sleep was disturbed! Now that I live alone, it’s pretty easy to get a good night’s sleep- no caffeine after 4 pm or stimulating activity right before sleep. I read at least an hour in bed and awake around 4 AM which is fine with me. I get a lot done before 8 AM. Of course I am usually asleep before 9 pm. I’ve never been a night owl or liked to go out much except on the weekend. Nan

    1. This was just a bad few nights. With two bedrooms occupied again, we'd play musical chairs trying to shuffle to get better sleep. That won't be long now though.

  8. I used to have the sleeping problem with my ex-husband. He was bi-polar so could easily go three days without sleep in the manic phase - so I got no sleep either. He was VERY noisy, so I feel for you, but I get that your husband likes to stay up late the night before his day off, probably to feel like he's making the most of his "free time"! As for your to-do list, I'd have your arm professionally stretched. There you go, problem solved!

    1. I'm sure I won't finish it all, but all is needed! He gets sucked into television shows. The worst of streaming.

  9. I am a bear when I have interrupted sleep. I also have an almost whole day well almost a whole day to myself and also an evening. So excited. My youngest is also a procrastinator she gets it from her mommie!

    1. She gets hers from us both, but it's still a bad habit with her. I think you get things done on your time, but get so much done.

  10. My dh has a late to bed sleep schedule. Most of the time he's quiet, but I'm like you, I'm much better able to sleep through it as long as I fall asleep before he comes to bed. If he watches tv (rarely) it's on really loud and I have to shut the bedroom door. Often he will have his computer speakers on really loud watching youtube channels. The other evening he had a show playing on his computer, in his den, and walked out to the living room to tell me something. He was like "whoa! That's really loud!" I'm like I KNOW! I don't know how it isn't loud sitting right next to it, but it's super loud in the living room. He's finally keeping the volume down now, LOL.

    1. He complains I don't hear well, but it's a volume thing too when he has TV on. Mostly it's the up down bathroom tour that's most disruptive.

  11. How decadent for you to have a full weekend day to yourself - I encourage you to do something "frivolous" for yourself, Sam - you need that personal time, and 'doing nothing' is good for you!

I'm going out to Sidney with my friend Cat to hit all the thrift stores - they have way more than in the "big city" and it's mostly a retirement community, so lots of treasures to be found. I'm so excited to have a day trip!

Other than that, a grocery shop, some board games, probably a nap. I have terrible sleep patterns - I usually have 4-6 hours of sleep a night, if I'm lucky. I'm like your husband, up and down. I often sleep on a couch or on our deck just so that I don't disturb my husband (we have a creaky hallway).

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Just Saturday, and only until DH is home so not so decadent. I'd like to play, but just really too much must be done. I will look for your haul from shopping.
