Positively Tuesday- Capturing Every Day

Happy Tuesday! I'm off work, but worked ahead to capture all the things that I should show gratefulness for. No one has a perfect life, but when possible, making sure to see the good every day makes the hard stuff a bit easier.

  1. It's been a while since several of us could play trivia and it was a lot of fun. Winning is always fun and we've earned money towards a future tab.
  2. I met my daughter early Thursday to give her some products for  care boxes to go to women in need at a local shelter. She also had donations from work friends. It's always a good feeling to give back.
  3. She gave me two cucumbers that were delicious for my lunch with cheese and hummus. We used one for gyro's last night, a request from DD2. These were a hidden surprise in a flower bed. I also made pickles from them. She so got a large summer squash she hadn't seen. It's like a secret Santa garden.
  4. It was fun meeting up with friends on Saturday. We hadn't seen them since the Corgi races nearly a month ago. We were at the local bar and grill so of course the guys  knew everyone and their brother coming in and out.
  5. It's been fun seeing pictures of my extended family start school, or their school year activities. Even though we're so big, it's nice to feel close and connected over the generations.
  6. The rain over the week sure greened things up. It's a hot one this week, so nice to have a good soaking rain. I'm not a fan of the storm, but the rain was wonderful
Ignore the clutter. This area is a
holding place for sorting to purge.

  7. I brought this chair to my daughter. She may use on her porch, because the color matches, or elsewhere. It was doing nothing in our house but holding junk. It needs a top off coat of paint, but otherwise is solid. It was the chair to her dad's old desk, the one I use in my office with a proper office chair. I love seeing her place shape up, through thrifty means. Anyone can run into Target or HomeGoods, whip out the credit card, buy stuff to fill space in a home. She's trying to let the house evolve naturally.
  8. On Sunday, I helped my daughter, well handed her screws, to put together a very cute shelf unit in her office. We did some clean up of things that needed to be picked from her garden, and took a walk. It was a nice afternoon. She's having the occasional , oh sh&$ moment, but she'll be fine. Any encouraging words from others who had those first weeks, months, and year of trepidation as a new home owner, please weigh in. She'll have loads of new opportunities in this home to do freelance work, and her own creative pursuits.
  9. I finished the book and joined book club last night. Even though it wasn't my favorite book, it was a good meet up because there was lots to discuss. If you read Verity, without giving away any plot, are you team manuscript or team letter? We're going classic next month and reading Agatha Christie.
  10. Plans today are whatever my daughter wants to do with me. A great simple pleasure is to have the time to be able to help someone else. No doubt we'll grab lunch at one of her favorite places. I'm ignoring budget this week.
My daughter has her list and is quadruple checking it. I'd really like her not to have to use her last day home or days when her brother is back for loose ends. Wish her luck she'll be ready by Thursday. What joys have you had? Any special treats or people in your days?

  1. We have had beautiful, hot, sunny days in between the rain and thunder and lightning. I love the sun and heat. We went to Krispy Kreme and had an Artemis 1 Moon Doughnut. Also. a basket of local freestone peaches, so delicious and juicy.

  2. Not a lot of joys here lately. Lots of decluttering and packing obviously. Kids gave us a gift card for our anniversary to a nice restaurant in LA. Enjoy the time with your son.

    1. That's sweet. It will be appreciated once you are settled.

  3. You post every day?!? I am so impressed. I can barely manage once a week -- I have trouble coming up with decent ideas. Anyway, we need that rain here in the NE ... and I'm jealous that you are so clsoe to your daughter. Mine lives 900 miles away in Wisc.

    1. I have been trying there's been a few days when I passed. My older daughter is now 25 miles away. College kid will be going to Spain in a week. My son though lives in California. He's coming Thursday and I can't wait.

  4. Homes and wardrobes are so much better when they evolve over time. I always hate those home makeover shows where everything is bought new, completely lacking personality and out of fashion in a couple of months. xxx

    1. I think those homes lack personality, but to each their own. She doesn't have funds even if she wanted to splurge, but that's not her style anyway. You'd be impressed with her wardrobe too- very eclectic and accumulated over time. She regularly puges and donates them finds new items to love.

    1. With both girls! I'm shopping with the youngest for shoes and under garments. Fun fun!

  6. I think the first year after buying your first house is filled with "WTH did I just do" moments. Then it becomes routine and you can't imagine now having your own home.
I think it is wonderful that she is taking her time getting it furnished like she wants it. In the short run it might seem not exactly as she wants it to look, but in the long run she will love watching it evolve and her bank account will love her !

    1. Thanks for the perspective. I suppose it's like any big change. The new is scary. Funds aside, I think a home needs to evolve anyway, not just be a collection of store displays.

  7. I do hope your daughter will allow us a sneak peak at her home once she's got it set up. I'm sure I'd love her taste (and that chair is beautiful)!

    1. I'd describe her taste as streamlined bohemian she likes the rust, red, blue, gray mix in fabrics, but as pops of color, not everywhere. Fortunately items she had from her past apartments work well, even though they feel different, in this house.

  8. I had dinner with my mom friends last night and it was just what I needed. I think we’re going to do an escape room or maybe bowling next. I was officially named the new Assistant Store Manager on Monday during our conference call. I know I can do the job, and have essentially been doing it for awhile, but it’s nice to hear it from other people, I guess. I’m continuing to declutter and hoping to move mountains on Thursday. Or at least take a bag or two to goodwill ;) JoAnn

    1. Congratulations! I hope you having this role adds stability to the environment and a better working place overall. Sometimes our girls are just who we need. Good luck decluttering.

  9. I love that she is finding things to fill her new home in a thrifty manner. You’re right about going to Target and whipping out a credit card. That’s easy to do, but finding pieces that mean something to you takes time. The chair you gave her will make a nice addition. My word of advice is to not get overwhelmed, which can be easy to do in the beginning. Take her time and do it well. There is no rush. :)

    1. It's the budget that is giving her anxious moments. She had really low housing expenses and has doubled them. She can afford it, it's just the shock of change. Her house really is so functional now.
