Facebook Status-Umm, No

About a year ago, I had reached my annoyance limit with the number of shaming posts demanding that if I cared about something in the world, I was duty bound to copy and use as my status update for one day or one hour. My responses was, No I won't Post as My Status Update. It has gotten bad again, only now, it is the political rants, the over the top sales pitches for every home based product anyone I know ever sold or buys, and yes, more of the guilty shaming post as your status request. I want to see pictures of my friends kids and grand children. I'm happy with a little successful bragging-I want to celebrate with people when good things happen. And while I used to not understand in the early days of being on Facebook, putting out sad news, this is where I am learning of former classmates and losing their parents, and even losing former classmates. When I lost my parents and sister, I deeply appreciated the comments and remembrances posted on my wall or sent via a message.

I want to know real genuine  updates on people in my community, what recipe's each other wants to share and like, what places to go are worth the time. I am fine with business and bloggers that I choose to follow having updates, because I like knowing a new post is ready or Wednesday night is two for one domestic beer night, and I chose to follow. I know I was not the audience Zuckerberg originally created Facebook for, but it became an important social tool for me. Social, as in people talking and sharing, and building community. Now, I am starting to back off liking a status, as it seems the cyber cookies make seven degrees of separation and start finding ways to dump more garbage in my news feed. I know a millionaire needs to keep making his money, and Facebook is free, so I think the paid ads will continue to plug the feeds, but if everyone could stop with the copying and pasting already it would be welcomed. I'd much rather know you care about something, or show you I care through living  life.

  1. That crap drives me nuts and what upsets me even more is the poor abused animals and if you don't like it ur a monster. WTH!?!?!?! I normally just block the feed on people that post that junk.

    1. As if a like and repost changes anything. I'm just finding more adverts in the guise of real posts-but keep the funny buzzfeed coming.

  2. I hate the copy pasting thing - it sucks. I don't use it too much but have reconnected with people from my youth/highschool days so still use it. I do get tired of the baby pictures (daily is a bit much) but otherwise find it way to keep in touch with my relatives as we are scattered all over Canada and the USA

    1. I'm an on and off, but I know what you mean about the daily child posts. I have a relative that documents everything on line with her kids. Granted they are cute but they are not the first children in history to have done any of the funny things she has captured. But I'd take that over political rants and repost requests.
