And the School Year Begins

In an hour I'll be dropping DD2 off at school, then will be back in my daily routine for the next nine months. Well, perhaps once she gets her license and the roads are clear she'll start driving herself, but the morning routine is the same. Today she was up bright and early, no nagging, packing her own lunch, throwing a couple waffles in the toaster. Tomorrow might hold that same energy. If I was a regularly betting person though, I'd bet all energy is subsided by Friday and the "get up" and "five more minutes" battle will begin.

As she got the extra day off, she hung out with a friend, our former house guest from last spring, most of the day. Wandering between thunderstorms they found a group of stray kittens that another family had been looking after outside and had a good play with them. I don't know what the end result will be, maybe they'll be kept. Usually the kittens at Animal Ark go right away for adoption, so not sure why the people haven't taken them there. Maybe they tried and their numbers are too high right now. The kittens were nameless, so not having that, the girls named the three Thunder, Lightning, and Ahahahagh, from the ACDC strong Lightning Struck. Fifteen year olds, what can I say. I'll grab an awkward first day of school picture, to join the other 10 befroe we walk out the door.

The new web site is muddling along. A little less than a month ago I sent out a request here and to Facebook friends to help me sort out ideas and content for a soon to launch website. I can't thank those of you that helped me out enough. I'm slowly taking in all the great thoughts and input and will do a summary when http://www.samandcoffee.com/ launches October 8th. Apparently I am not alone in sometimes being at a loss of where to find resources, networking opportunities, and new outlets geared towards women juggling the middle years.I had more responses than I would have thought, and more ideas than I have time for. If anyone is looking for an outlet for themselves and think you might want to do a little research and writing, let me know. DD helped me whittle down the names for the drawing.Through a random selection process we have a winner of the $25 Amazon gift card. She's been contacted and it will be on its way.

Coffee is done and the shower awaits. I've got a few servings of soup in plastic containers and will grab one for my lunch, so no need to bother packing one today. I've got just two more, first days of school, then she'll be doing that on her own. I'm ready for my independence back from child raising, but of course it is bitter sweet.

  1. Ahhhhh, I remember the get up fights. They were never fun. DJ was so bad that I gave up and didn't get up with him in the morning. If he over-slept, it was on him. It actually helped our relationship.

    1. This morning was ok, but on point, slower than yesterday. I drive her so it makes me late as well, but we'll give that a go later.

  2. For me I got my last son off to college and the next week my parents began having serious health issues. I was hoping for a year to recoup and for us to have some time alone as a couple. 4 years later and still no time just for us. Oh well!

    1. And I though I am counting down for just three more years of it. Well, my parents are gone already, and so is his dad, and MIL so far, is pretty darn healthy.Of course anything can change in three years.
