Nigella Lawson, that classy, but homey, British chef, ran a little south of her audience when she did a show with a recipe in making Avocado toast. I liked the buzz feed story below about it. I like her programs, and as she said as well, I'm not about to say anything I'll mention is a recipe but just three favorite ways I like to eat mine.
On Toast-Yes, I too love smashed avocado on a piece of god multi grain bread. Lately I've swapped regular bread for whole wheat sandwich skinny rounds. 1/2 an avocado, smashed with a fork, then spread loosely on the two halves of the round, topped with a few twists of cracked black pepper and a little salt.
With Scrambled eggs-Same as above, though I often eat the whole avocado, smash and season the fruit. My eggs, I crack in a heated pan, and then scramble as their cooking, leaving bits of whites showing. I stop cooking when they are not quite done, and removed so they don't get dry (as the eggs keep cooking from their own heat.) I have low cholesterol and blood pressure so leave the yolks, but you could do this with an egg white scramble as well. This was breakfast this morning and I'll be satisfied well past lunch time.
Guacamole-My easy way is three rough mashed avocados with a can of Rotel, ore Aldi equivalent. The pepper and onions are already there. If I have any, I finish with a squirt of lime juice. Better quac is to combine the three avocado's with 1/2 a medium onion, 1-2 cut up fresh tomatoes, a chopped jalapeno pepper, a tsp of salt and pepper (more or less to taste), and juice from a lime.
Avocado and nuts are considered helthy food and their fats healthy fats. Not to mention that they're also tasty. And yet, if you want to loose weight it's not a good idea to eat these food items which are rich in calories. When you reach the desired weight, you may 'go wild' a bit, and eat whatever you fancy.
ReplyDeleteSince I am losing small bits of weight, I think they are working as part of my eating plan. Plus, I struggle with getting enough fruits and vegetables, and these greatly aid. However, I hear you well-and eating with a lot of tortilla chips is not a great thing to do.
DeleteHonestly...I can't keep up with all the NEW food info either!! I will never NOT eat avocados - they are a staple around here. Kazi makes killer guac (we like the chunky kind with onions and tomatoes). Yesterday she made a version of avocado toast - since we had no bread she toasted (in the oven) two medium-sized tortillas. They disappeared quickly so I guess they were tasty:)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that sounds wonderful. I have put tortilla's aside for now because the calories are just so high, but when I reach a desired weight, plan to, on occasion, move them back on my plate.
DeleteI don't even try to keep up with what is what anymore. I am just happy occasional butter is on the good food list again
ReplyDeleteButter wa never off my list. I'm not eating a stick of it at one time, so the little pats are not hurting anyone!
DeleteYou sound very sensible. The "experts" can't make up their minds can they! I remember not so long ago eggs were supposedly bad for you and now the ideas have completely reversed. Good to hear you enjoy avocados so much! Arilx
ReplyDeleteI get cynical and think half the research is bought for or against the industry, as more marketing ploy than solid information.
DeleteI think the main thing to steer clear of is sugar in all its forms even so called healthy sugars can limit your weight loss. I eat avocados and butter and high fat nuts like Brazil's but I'm very careful with sugar lol
ReplyDeleteSimple cabs-the white foods, as well as sugar have been horrible for me. I was less than cautious for a few days, white buns for a sandwich, pasta, the stuff I need to avoid, and I feel different. Today I am getting my body back to my better eating-inlcuding an avocado and probably some nuts later in the day.
