Weekend Prep and More Doctor Visits in My Future

I'm really appalled at myself. My official weight is three pounds more than I have been telling myself it is, and while not quite the highest it has been at a doctor visit, it was pretty close. My hemoglobin was actually more than good-just great at 14.1. I can even donate blood next opportunity and that will feel like I finally am returning a favor to others. It will take a while for the thyroid, Vitamin D, and one more test to get back-most likely will hear on Monday. The worst was my blood pressure result-146/91. Gasp! I used to have such low blood pressure they worried about that. I am sad about this most of all-even more than the arthritis. This I feel I did to myself with not eating well and not taking good enough care. She' referred me to a sleep clinic, and thinks there is most likely some correlation between my poor sleep habits and the blood pressure increase, though the added weight is a negative feeder for both. So now I wait to get into the sleep study clinic and for the lab results to see if little changes like more Vitamin D will help a bit with my energy and sleep.

After the doctor, I went shopping for the lake weekend. I took several readers advice and am adding a crock-pot pasta dish to go with something tomorrow, probably the Sloppy Joe's since my older daughter will still be here plus it will be something substantial for the non red meat eater. I tallied up everything I bought, not counting the freezer stash or the S'More stuff I already had (over bought that for grad party as well), and once I stop for fresh corn, my total is $134. While there will be some mixing of meals with both cabins possibly, and not counting picking up a couple pizzas tonight, this is feeding seven teens, two breakfasts, lunches, suppers, and all day snacks and beverages for $19.14 a kid. I of course will eat as well as some things by other family members so it is actually lower. I think I did well. We'll have gas for the boat and firewood, but will keep the entire weekend under $200 and that was my aim. I just hope DD2 is healthy enough to enjoy. She has a horrible upper respiratory illness going on and has been alternating sleeping, coughing, and tryng to sooth her throat. My nephew had a crew up a month ago and he spent 2 of the three days in bed sick as well.

I've got cookies to throw in the oven and clothes to get out of the dryer. I plan to leave by 4:00, so I have a couple hours to myself perhaps. I doubt I'll be posting the next couple days. Enjoy your weekend.

  1. As always you seem well prepared. Let's hope the sleep clinic will help as there is nothing worse than lack of sleep. On that note, enjoy the cabins/family time and bon week-end!

    1. It sounds a bit chicken and egg-quite circular in results hopefully that losing weight will help sleep, which hels blood pressure, and fixing sleep will help weight gain.

  3. I do not want to scare you but if your DD2 is dealing with the upper respiratory problem for over a week, a chest X-Ray may be in order. Sometimes it moves to the lungs without us noticing. I had that before. Season changing usually does that to me.

  4. I just found out today that I need a ton of vitamin D - I'm close to needing an IV. It was crazy. Apparently, my vitamin D was insanely low & I need to take a weekly supplement with a high amount, then move on to a daily supplement. I'm hopeful that will increase my energy level.

My lab results were mixed, and I will likely need to go back on the lupus meds again at some point, but we're going to see how I do with the vitamin D medicine. Fingers crossed for both of us.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend at the lake!

    1. Vitamin D deficiency was the result. Now on the Mega does for 12 weeks. Last time was for only 8-I hope the extra weeks will make a difference.

  5. I hope the meds will make you feel better and hopefully the sleep clinic will help also. I'm on BP meds, take Vit D3, have trouble sleeping and have gained weight also. I was hoping that getting back to work would help me lose a few pounds, but sadly they don't want to leave me.

    1. It seems harder and harder with each year to lose anything. I always think-this season-and then it is no better.

  6. My colitis makes it hard to absorb vitamin D3. It's one of the top 3 things my specialist checks. I take 10 000 units a day in the hopes that as much as possible stays in my system. When I still wore contacts I was told to be outside without them as they prevented absorption

    1. Interesting on the contacts. I wear eye glasses-could that be similar?

  7. As you may know I completely changed my sleep life. I no longer use any devices 2 hours before bed and only read a real book or do journaling or knitting for awhile. I sometimes take herbal tea or milk first. I get in bed an hour before I sllep and do those things to unwind. I also use olly sleep gummies and I make sure to get exercise and my sllep has drastically improved. You might try wesringbyour fit it to need to get some idea of sleep patterns. Also arthritis leeches D from the bones and extra d may be needed.beyond what is in a vitamin or the sun.

    1. I do use too much electronic gadgets too late into the night. I need to try all forms of relaxation. It was a Vitamin D issue-in part.

  8. Second what the commenter said about your DH. It's time for a chest x-ray.
A food journal is the ONLY thing that helped me shed stubborn pounds. Turns out they weren't stubborn after all--I was too stubborn to change my eating!

    1. She is on the mend, but still has the horse throat. I know the bad things I am eating-I need someone to walk around with me and slap my hand and tell me to get up and move.

  9. no fun being sick/ill; I too hope things mend.
