I could get used to not working but man did I not use my time off wisely. I guess I needed downtime. Well back to work today and I'm hoping I'm not too backed up. Next week we have to pack our space for the move and it's a short week, so I fear long work days ahead.
Lefse making was fun, but standing for hours is hard on my knee. I did ok when I could move around. Here's me holding the long turner. I may try a vegan batch for my daughter, but I have a stash from our efforts in my freezer for the rest of us. As I thought, my MIL didn't want to take her griddle, rolling circle, and turners home. I said I just don't have space, but my other SIL took them home. We likely will only make as a group anyway. We got our first bit of snow over the weekend but it will be short lived. It came right on schedule Saturday at 3:00. We left my SIL's about 1:45, got dog walked and a good play with the ball, then DH and I left about 3:00 right as it started. Our friend plays in acoustic duo so we met up with her husband and other friends for the rest of the afternoon. We made it an early night, and got home to a happy pup who thought the snow was good fun. He poked around in it Sunday morning.
No cooking Sunday-just heating up leftovers and football watching, laundry, and some work work. I had a lab appointment so as it was close, stopped at Sam's Club-what a zoo on Sundays. I got my free rotisserie chicken with my new membership and more juice, grapes, and vitamins for DH. I also got my prescription picked up via the drive through at Walgreens. I had wanted to see what they might still have for clearance candy as I need Rolo's for the pretzel snack, but it was just easier to not get out of the car again. I just wanted to get home so nixed a few other stops on my original list.
We had a quiet night. I got home from all my running before half time, then took pup for a good walk. We were back to watch the end of the Minnesota Vikings game-and miraculously, they didn't botch it, though it was once again a bit too tight for comfort. DH had snacked on happy hour leftovers, pizza and chicken tenders, so wasn't starving, but he had some of the chicken as it was still warm. I washed some of the grapes and popped popcorn for both of us, and we called it dinner. I ended up freezing two large portions of the tortellini soup for an easy grab and nuke lunch later in the week. There's still some in the fridge for my lunch tomorrow. I'll probably grab lunch out next week since we'll be packing. I'll use the rotisserie chicken as supper a few nights, plus turned into broth for probably chicken noodle soup. When my son was home, I'd be lucky to get a batch of soup from the leftover chicken and now we'll eat 3-5 meals, with leftovers.
My day ended with my prepping to do a final scoring of grant proposal I was reviewing. I did off line so will upload onto the SharePoint site by end of day tomorrow. My end of day will likely be quite late. I wasn't going to, but I also clicked through and got rid of FYI type emails, and things I didn't need to do anything with this week. Since everyone had Thursday off in our office and most of our partners, and many tok Friday, it wasn't so bad. The coffee is done, so I think I'll end the blog here. Have a good week and happy Monday.
I find that I have my own ideas of how to use time off, but my body often needs other things. :-) For the most part, I try to just go with it, assuming I largely need what I get up to.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good weekend! The weather here was gorgeous (70), & unusual. It's easy to enjoy, but we're still in a major drought, so it does make me worry.
I realized when ai came back and worked a 13 hour day, it's ok to use time off to take care of lost sleep and not having to be productive.
DeleteHappy Monday! I get to listen to a wet tile saw today. A small trade off for a new backsplash in the kitchen. Another project getting knocked off the list!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear those noises. We're dragging our feet to get our list done.
DeleteHope you have a great week. Cooking with the family does not sound like a horrible way to spend the day!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun- though I personally am not the lefse gal others are. It's more traditional than a taste sensation in my opinion.
DeleteYum! I'm so impressed by the lefse making; that's quite an ordeal (but a delicious one!). I make kringla most Decembers; my dad's side always had that around and I'm the only one in the family who has carried on making it, but I've never had the courage to step up my game with lefse.
ReplyDeleteI need to make a trip to Sam's Club, but there's just never a good time to go! Rest that knee up. I'm taking it easy on my back today; it's a little angry with me, but when isn't it? *sigh* Have a great week! :)
I actually find it a bit bland, but it's tradition in both families as lots of Scandinavian blood. I may try making rosette's again this year, but closer to Christmas.
DeleteAh crap back to work... no fun, but I bet they missed you. Love the picture of you with the lefsa turner! I have an entire cupboard for just Swedish and Norwegian cooking and more things out in the garage! I only use it once a year, but I just can't give it up! Go Nordic people!
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to store more stuff so glad my SIL took her things.
DeleteGreat picture! That lefse does sound tasty! Hope your knee feels better though. Hope you have a good week, and I hope work isn't too stressful.
ReplyDeleteI was slow moving Sunday, but all's good, or as good as my knee ever feels. I'll slowly get caught up but worked too long yesterday.
DeleteThat is a good picture! I have not a clue as to what lefse is. I have never heard of it before. My knee does not like for me to stand still, either.
ReplyDeleteThink Norwegian tortilla made with potatoes.
DeleteThe first snow is kinda exciting isn't it - but I'm still happy when it disappears too!
ReplyDeleteThat was funny part in the bar Saturday. Every time the door opened everyone had to look to see how much snow was accumulating. We crab but ultimately like that first snow fall.
DeleteThat's a lovely photo of you, what a beautiful smile!
ReplyDeleteI can't beleive you've got snow already, I hope we don't! xxx
