I opened my statement from my old employer a bit ago. Because it is an account that I am not contributing to anymore, it gives me a really good sense of the progress my overall plan will make. I just about threw up when I saw that not only was there no gains, it dropped nearly 11% in the last quarter. To gain that back, I'll have to see an increase of at least 13%! I know retirement savings work in the world of stocks and bonds, but I'm in a relatively conservative, not aggressive mix of funds. I know you are not supposed to look at a single point in time, but rather at how the funds are ding over the lifetime, but as I get closer and closer to a planned retirement date, a decade not three as when I started contributing, it feel like a blow to the heart. Tell me this president is in his position other than for vanity, ego, and whatever he can try and control for his own and those in his inner circle personal gain, and I most likely this will just call you plain stupid. I'm that angry right now. Am I being over dramatic? Am I being unfair? Ignorant? Maybe.
The overly tanned sociopath made whatever money he has by being a con artist and a risk taker at other peoples expenses-never his own. Some might, I know he does, call that smart. I call that criminal and in no way fit to be the leader of a country. I try and keep politics out of my blog, but the lies, the story telling, the vulgarity of every thing about him has me to the point of wanting to literally walk to Washington and beg that impeachment proceedings start.
Maybe in a many months my retirement account will rebound. It is said that if those that panicked in the 1929 and then in 2008 would have just left things alone, the stock market, and their retirement accounts would have corrected themselves. Small comfort though when those funds are required to live off of.
There, I got that out of my system. Feel free to argue back. Tell me I'm the one who is just plain stupid. Feel free if you are inclined to tell me all the "wins" he has done and is doing for the country. I'll not respond, but will let those that think this have their say. We live in a democracy after all, and the land of free speech.
I agree. My retirement funds lost 10% this year.- which by the way reflects almost 3 years of contributions if you discount the interest made- Makes my stomach hurt.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is vulgar indeed. Before I agree further, let me say, (and I hate, Hate, HATE to say it) I have older friends who use the VA. Since President Trump's inauguration, their experiences with the VA are much better.
ReplyDeleteSo, now that I've given credit where credit is due, I agree with everything you have said. I am sickened by this administration. Let us also remember that it is important to pay attention to the midterm elections. After all, we can only vote for president every 4 years, but elections are held annually (more, actually, with primaries.) I trust the first thing your daughter did when she turned 18 was register to vote, and pledge herself to never, ever miss voting in an election?
I'm so sorry. I don't live in the US but I agree with every word you say about the tangerine buffoon. For someone who was gifted and/or inherited his millions from his father and has declared bankruptcy six times "The Art of the Deal" just makes me laugh. I mean, who can bankrupt a casino in Las Vegas! He really is an embarrassment (a dangerous one at that)!
ReplyDeleteI find it really hard to read the news without getting enraged. I know it's not good for my mental health, so I've stepped way back. I have very strong feelings on this topic.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your losses & retirement. It's really hard to watch the numbers change when you get closer. I've mostly recovered what I lost (although not all), so may be worth another look at your portfolio mix as you approach the last 10 years or so of work and ensure you have the right mix of funds as well. Fingers crossed that we see positive returns again.
I agree with everything you said. And he is indeed a tangerine buffoon.
ReplyDeleteI don’t live in the US but I watched in horror as that loon was elected. It is like watching a terrible evil circus. My retirement funds have tanked as well. (The sooner tRumpty dumpty falls off his wall the better. For all of humanity.)The poor federal workers!! I don’t know how long this fiasco can go on?!
ReplyDeleteno, your not stupid at all! Its harder to look at the 'downs'in our retirement account as we get closer to retirement as there is not too many years ahead to make it up. I'm not in the US but everyone I talk to here just can't believe a repulsive oaf like that got elected - he couldn't lie straight in bed! the good thing is it will right itself eventually, I do believe good people will prevail, its just difficult to watch in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteWhat a short sighted post. The Dow is up 30% since Trump was elected and taxes are down. Just say you hate the president. I'm definitely voting for Trump again. In fact, the Democrats thought they had it in the bag last time and were so cocky. I hope they are cockier this time.
ReplyDeleteWe are closer to retirement than you, so we moved our IRA funds to CDs when stocks were tumbling down and up and down again a few weeks ago. The instability is frightening. My next door neighbors are struggling through this shutdown as they are a coast guard family with three young boys. I brought them two bags of surplus groceries out of my own pantry despite the fact they they are Trump supporters. I'd rather do that every week and go broke than see him get $5 billion for the wall, which would probably just be funneled to Russia. Mitch McConnell refuses to bring a bill to the senate floor that would most likely pass and end the shutdown. He is as much to blame as that buffoon in the oval office.
