At 5:00, I'm meeting my mom friends for a spread out walk at a regional park. My fiend S has been going to this one and has said it has not been busy. It's a little less convenient than some of the other parks in our area, and a very large nature center is nearby so I think it gets overlooked, even though it is quite big itself. I hope that is the case today. We will keep our distance. It's the park that my girls ran at for cross country for home meets. his will be the most live interaction I have had with people outside my immediate family since my brother-in-laws funeral on March 21, not counting grocery shopping and a little conversations with neighbors.
I had a long "coffee" meet-up yesterday afternoon with my friend N. She's the one who I've been friends with for a long while, but when I changed jobs five years ago, we were peer colleagues in two separate agencies, but worked closely together until she changed careers last May. It was so good to talk with her and get caught up. Her husband did a quick cameo wave. Both her girls go to college way out of state, but are home now. They all went golfing on Thursday and she said it was the first day since she had her travel stopped and the girls came home that they felt sort of normal. Like so many of us, her family has reduction in income due to her husband being 75% furloughed-three week off, one on, estimating similar to use, about a 25% cut in household income.
DD2 is now officially done with her freshmen year. She finished all papers, tests, and even submitted her choir jury recording. Technically, I think she actually will have junior status based on her credit completion. She still has two years though, unless she forgoes a study abroad, as she is double majoring and possibly has a minor if she can work out the coordination of classes. I have been able to witness how hard she works at her classes, and is not taking her opportunity for granted. Like we all do, I hope enough has been done to mitigate and protect so by fall, the kids and youth can be back to their regular environments for education. Nothing yet on the job front for her, but I can keep her busy for a while, and she can do some deeper looking. It's not like she will be spending money.
That's my Saturday planned. Dinner is already sorted with the shredded pork turned into carnitas. I'll prep some potatoe ole's and rice before heading to the park. If the others want to eat before I get home, they are welcome to. I'm on the fence about doing a fire. The weather will be nice, but the mess after, as pup will be near and the soot around just clings. I don't fancy giving him another midnight bath. Maybe I'll just sit , if I plant the flowers, enjoying them with a glass of wine and watching the sunset.
Sounds like such a lovely day. I'm meeting a friend for a socially distanced hike (we are also choosing a place based on ability to socially distance) & cleaning the house. We'd also like to make cookies for a friend who dropped by a dinner for us Other than that, I hope there's reading by the pool.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds really perfect as well. I didn't realize how much, well maybe I did, seeing real folks, and even as a non-hugger, not giving them each a hug was really hard!
DeletePlanting things totally counts as entertainment now and sitting watching the sunset with a glass of wine sounds fabulous! It's raining here so I am not sure what we will do but after a crappy day yesterday I know supper will be comfort food and likely some watching of 1950s horror movies for our entertainement
ReplyDeleteWeird-after writing my own reply to you all, the reply buttons are now working. Anything that changes the routine a bit is high entertainment around here. I felt like I was leaving the country driving over the bridge yesterday.
DeletePlanting out flowers is really therapeutic and so very relaxing. Enjoy your day - sounds lovely to me!
ReplyDeleteWe deferred until today, but I am looking forward to getting my pots filed, and more color for when I am outside.
DeleteHave a wonderful Saturday my friend, congrats on daughter finishing her freshman year.
ReplyDeleteI hope yours is wonderful as well. She did work hard. Now, hopefully will find that job, a job, or spend a summer babysitting.
DeleteUplifting updates continue to inspire me! Thank you for spreading joy! I have fallen down the trap of reading negative bloggers who complain about what they don’t have in their circumstances. And to read something so positive always makes my day, thank you
ReplyDeleteI've had more than my share of cranky days, so I won't fault those that need to write, get their frustration out, and hopefully, then move on with life. The lack of knowing I think is getting on peoples nerves and anxiety is high. My friend G who is always so up beat, is really struggling and she needed yesterday with us.
DeleteI had GS go out yesterday and bring me some dairy products and fresh garlic- cost $17 LOL- so now I can have cream in my coffee and pizza yay Your flowers are pretty- wish I could buy some but I'm still not leaving my house until later in May. April was a cheap month- no groceries but the Thursday produce delivery. I am anxious to go out though but can hold off longer. I made some marinara sauce from Roma tomatoes and am looking forward to a pasta dish for dinner- fresh garlic and all! Enjoy your Sunday. I am sorry to hear about your son's lay off- hopefully he'll be back working soon.
ReplyDeleteI first read sour cream in my coffee! That was nice that he made that stop for you.
DeleteI'm having issues replying to comments this morning, but thank you all for joining the conversation and sharing your day. We deferred the flowers until today as my daughters had something else planned-funny I know. It was really good seeing my friends, even if we had to spread really far apart,
