If you live in east, you may be seeing snow on May 9th! I woke up here in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota to a brisk, breath seeing 30 degrees F. While the forecast says sunny and 58, this morning was too cold for May. I thought ahead and did get my planters inside. Fortunately we have not yet planted the veggies outside, so maybe I dodged the cold and may still have luck as the summer goes on that we'll be eating our own vegetables.
I have to venture out today and mail some things. I'll be masked and will have disinfectant with me to make sure I reclean my car before and make sure I'm not bringing home traces of anything I come in contact with. I was going to swing by the plant sale at the school but a message went out that they sold out yesterday in the first four hours. There was a lot of traffic up there. There was a drive by parade for the seniors, with the teachers and other students lined up-safely spread, to cheer and honk. I saw some video from friends and parents of my daughters friends and it was super sweet. While I know the traditional gradation events, rights of passage, walking the stage to get diplomas, may be different, no doubt there will be lot of special alternative ways to celebrate. Who knows? Maybe this group of graduates will look back and instead of disappointment, they will remember the uniqueness of their end of school year. It is official that there will be no large gathering graduation ceremonies.
Besides getting my errands run, we'll clean the house today. Tonight's plan is pub food at home and maybe some card games rather than a movie night. It's actually next Sunday that the college kid can move her things out of her dorm. I hope it is warm enough, at least for a bit, tomorrow for my mother-in-law to want to be outside. It would be nice to order or pick-up some food, and at least have a visit. As I said yesterday, I know the fatigue is running deep with her. I haven't heard from the other family as to their plans. I'm sure mine will include a nice walk with my girls and a call with my son. However you spend your weekend, I hope you enjoy.

Conventional wisdom in these parts of PA says don't plant anything in the ground until after Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteWe woke up to 1+ inches of snow so yep!, it's about on schedule this year. lolz
So lucky with the weather here- it's 72 and sunny. My brother in Iowa and I talked last night- he said it was cold and windy. I still haven't ventured out of my neighborhood- maybe the end of the month. Monday is granddaughter's and my oldest daughter's birthday Granddaughter will be 6- she was born on Mother's Day. I sent them both checks and cards from my stash. My California kids each sent me a beautiful flower arrangement! Happy Mother's Day to you- I've been a mother for 40 plus years and loved everyday of it...well, almost LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt's sunny and going to be 70 where I am - I'll take it :)
ReplyDeleteThinking positive, graduation ceremonies during lock down could be really special and memorable! And we're headed for a few days cold weather next week but I've got my plants out. Fingers crossed, but I'll probably kill them all like I usually do by jumping the gun!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the 70's here in the PNW. Very unusual.
ReplyDeleteI think these kids will remember their commencements more in light of this pandemic. My kids, and my brothers before them, would have loved a reason to not have to attend a conventional h.s. graduation. I was the only one in my family who went to mine, and only because my father was on the school committee, and would be handing me my diploma. Otherwise, I would have skipped it.
It’s freezing, windy, snow showery, gross weather here too. I have a periwinkle in my yard that I covered overnight and brought my seedlings that I started inside. For how lousy it is though, the sun pops out occasionally and I went outside without a coat. Our graduation is on for June 26th, with a parade planned for May 21st, which was the original day. I have a suspicion that they are doing the parade knowing full well that they aren’t going to walk this summer :( Our high school teachers bought yard signs for each senior and then surprised us by placing it in our yard. It was really touching. One of my favorite Instagram personalities, Tabitha Brown, had a very inspirational message about taking this situation and using it to see what you’ve overcome and to not feel like your accomplishments mean any less. My son was born right after 9/11 and graduates during a pandemic. These kids have grown up in a crazy world. JoAnn
