Regardless of more turning of the dial to reopen the economy, I'm still in the mindset of social distancing and not wanting to be part of the trial to see if COVID19 is on the downturn. I won't be clamoring for a shopping day, or heading to a resturant. It;s DH's regualr day off as well, so depending on what he had planned, we may do something together. But here's my fun-planning the options!
Wednesday night:
- Drive-In movie, if the current movies change to something we like. If that is the case, no doubt I'll sleep in a bit on Thursday morning.
- Drive to the lake either with or w/o DH after work. I could get a good kayak ride in quiet or a swim and relax if the wether holds out, and that could roll into Thursday.
Thursday:
- Drive to a state park and explore. All 75 are open for daytime use and there are eight within a 90 minute drive of our house if we wanted to make a bit of a day trip. at only $35 for a year pass, it's thrifty way to spend the day. The kids could just use my car if they wanted to got to parks later int he year, though I think my older dauhgter already has a pass unless she didn't renew this year.
- Sculpture Gardens/Parks: There are two that i am aware of, one in Minneapolis and one outside of the Twin Cities, potentially on route to the lake if we would want to combine activities.
- Small town river walks: We love our town's river walks, but there are a series of towns along boththe St Croix and the Mississippi ripe for wlaking and exploring. Agan, could be combined with other activities and keeps us outdoors and nicely distanced. We could pack lunches or splurge o some take out.
- I could even just spend the day picing and preparing produce-a whole day without anyone on screen. Well, maybe just pick some berries if they are ready.
I could find somewhere to berry pick like I did two years ago. |
- Just Drive! We could just pick a direction, and take off, stopping where we see anything of interest. We did a version of that in Londond where we just hopped on a bus and got off at stops that looked interesting. We're not in London, but the same concpet applies-explore what peaks your interest.
Gas isn't quite as cheap as it's been, but still a bargain. |
If you had a free evening followed by a full day, what might you plan? Would you try to do something or go somewhere new, or revisit an old haunt or activity you haven't had time for? Help me plan folks!
I'd go out for the day. You can always find time for food prep another time. Not sure I'd be swimming in any lake though - well not round here, as it's way too cold still!
ReplyDeleteThe kids have been swimming since Memorial Day, 4th weekend in May. by the endof July the lake is almost too warm it isn't as refreshing. I agree-get away it wil be.
DeleteI have some time off over the next few days too. I scheduled this weekend off pre-covid, took Monday off for some dr appointments and also have off Tuesday. We should be going to the beach, but we’re not. We even thought about going to Lake Erie, but they are still “yellow” and we decided it wouldn’t be worth the trip. We might go to another smaller, closer state park that we know and love for the day. However things like boat rentals are still closed. I just need to see somewhere different! So I vote for checking out a park and birdwatching, hiking, kayaking, fishing, whatever it is you like to do. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI don't wan tto haul equipment places so kayaking and canoeing would be at ht elake, but we can sure hike anywhere. I agree-I need to get out and away for the day.
DeleteI love the idea of a mini vacation. TheHub and I have not had a vacation in over 4 years. We have taken a couple of trips to visit our kids, but we have had no sort of relaxing vacations. We decided we are going to the beach, but we will wait until after Labor Day when the crowds are gone. Meanwhile we are going to start night swimming again. There is something about swimming at night that seems indulgent.
ReplyDeleteWe overdo vacations when we schedule, but last year we were still trying to rebuild savings form the Europe trip, plus show choir and graduaiton costs, and then the new norm of tutin payments again, so no vacation last year. this year, any time off will just feel different, so I figure we might as well make lots of mini breaks instead of planning a real vacation. We;re aiming for spring 2022, fingers crossed our duaghter wil be able to study aborad and we will vist her.
DeleteAnd all this, is probably why, things like putting in back yard swimming pools, and decks, and etc., are being done now. Which is nice. People coming back home, to have their summer fun.
ReplyDeleteWish you well, with finding a little holiday trip, that will fill your wishes!
We've actually had a 32 year disagreement about having a pool. Maybe because he has much more of an affinity for the lake cabin than I do, I think it would be absolutely wonderful to have a back yard pool that would have daily use for three months. If we relocate to a warmer climate, it is an absolute must on my list.
DeleteGood luck with the home pool. But know, it requires work. -smile-
DeleteWe put it in, years ago, when my husband, a pharmacist, ran our drug store and had to work day and night. He had very little time off, and the places to swim, were always filled up, when we got there.
Our children were not learning to swim. I never learned, so I could not take them and teach them.
Sooooooo... We put in a gunite pool and it has been used!!!!! Ever since!!!! By our children and their friends. By our grand children and their friends.
And of course, my husband still loves to go in it.
For us, it was a wonderful investment, even though we live in the upper NE, where summers are not long.
It won't happen in this house, but maybe our retirement house.
DeleteA day trip sounds nice. and it can be fun if you make it.
ReplyDeleteI've been playing around on Google for routes and stops. I will get a little fun from the planning.
DeleteI certainly wouldn't go for a drive--I hate being in the car, but do like the idea of driving in a general direction to an unfamiliar area, with the plan of stopping at sites which may pique my interest.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, assuming I had no pressing home tasks to complete, I would love nothing more than to prepare my kitchen in the evening before a day of picking or buying berries, and then to come home and bake/can/freeze them. As a matter of fact, when the blackberries, which are prolific on our property, are ripe, (late summer/early fall) I plan an evening to prepare my kitchen, then block of the whole following day to go out and pick and process.
If, for some reason, I felt compelled to leave the house, I would probably go on a hike on one of our beach trails, assuming the weather cooperated.
You wouldn't do well with my daily commute-if it ever starts again. I didn't mean drive for driving sake, but as you describe, driving for places of interest. Maybe if I was not working full time, a day set aside for picking and canning would be my route, but I need to get away.
DeleteWow, everything sounds like fun. I would head for the mountains and a long hike and then take out.
ReplyDeleteSadly, no mountains but some really great park trails. I am leaning towards this.
DeleteI'd head to some woodland to walk and picnic. I find being among trees very soothing, and yes, I'm a tree hugger!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of packing a real honest to good ness picnic, though I'll probably be lazy and stop for take out. Maybe I'll borrow my daughters hammock and head to a place with a few trees and my book.
