The Friday W Call Out-Oh Happy Day

Oh Happy Day: I absolutely love this scene in Sister Act-in fact it might be one of my favorite scenes of any movie. Right now, it sort of feels like life.  We are singing quietly, a little frightened to let our hopes and longing for coming together really belt out, but we know it is coming. Look at those beautiful faces of the choir-the youth of our world Though they're all well and truly grown up since this movie was from 1992, but the voices of our youth are timeless. I get this sort of chill when I hear my daughters choirs.

It's been a week filled with emotions, raw emotions. 50% of all eligible Americans have been vaccinated at least with one dose and DH and I are scheduled for dose two tomorrow. The outcome of one trial said no, police cannot kill those they are trying to apprehend with impunity, in the same week there were other deaths that continue to  make me question the police system and culture.  I question, with the dichotomy of  supporting and appreciating, the hard work law enforcement officers have. With this song playing in my head, and my mindset in the first half of the clip, I'll share my Friday W's of life.

What's top of mind: As I said in the paragraph above-my mind is all over th eplace. Nothing seems to be top of mind, but so many subjects are squeezing for mental attention. I guess today, top of mind might be my sleep specialist  appointment later via video to resume the referral to get the sleep mouth guard. Getting uninterrupted sleep sounds like heaven.

Where I've been:  Since last weekend running errands? No where other than walking the dog in the neighborhood. Oh, and I swung by to peek a tthe house for sale when I wet to the post office drop off box.

Where I'm going: To my health clinic, with DH, for does 2! With him with, I'll need to come home as he has to work, so no Trader Joe's stop for me.

What I'm watching: I've watched the most recent episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the latest season of Death in Paradise. A visit from  Sergeant Camille Bordet and a cameo by  DI Richard Poole were highlights of the last episode.

What I'm reading:  My inbox is flooded with  educational journal article links so have been trying to read some of them, after hours, that are most relevant to my job. Several are more in the advocacy  arena, and  less research and more opinion, but the digital divide has surely been accentuated during Covid in education.

What I'm listening to: I'll add what I didn't listen to. I did not listen tot he  funeral coverage for Daunte Wright nor for Prince Philip. I find funerals highly personal things, and do not understand broadcasting them, but respect if the family's wanted it that way.

What I'm eating:  As I am typing, i'm having a late  breakfast/early lunch of leftover rice, beans, and cheese. That's the end to what I did not freeze form the huge batch I made on Tuesday. It tastes fine, but I am not great about eating the same meal four times in a week.

Who I'm paying attention to:  I guess I am paying attention to my new boos, who was technically my fist boss when I can to this organization. I have my first one to one check in today. She recruited me seven years ago, though it took her months an dmonths to get through the paperwork then hiring process. I think she will be god to her word and not dive into the weeds on each of our work, and stay focused on the areas I am happy to not be focused on!

What I'm planning: I am making plans for all the appointments I put off. My calendar is filling up I also requested a bunch of individual days and weeks off work-all pending som e end of year stuff we are waiting to learn. I'm still tinkering around planning options for a fall driving trip.

I'm seeing the light-maybe I'm getting closer to the end of that proverbial tunnel. My sister sent out a text about a get together next weekend, still outside, for her husbands 61st birthday, since last year she had to pass throwing a big 60th. They are the  party couple-always hosting things and celebrations so not having a bash for his 60th was not how they roll! I look forward to celebrating birthdays again-the young and the old timers like by BIL, LOL! I actually feel a bit blah this week, physically and mentally, and found an interesting read I'll post tomorrow for hopefully some good conversation through the comments. Speaking of comments, If you'd like to play along  please share the W's of your life right now.

  1. I was pleased with the outcome of the trial. I would hate to be a black man in this country. My daughter always has people asking her about the Mexican crime rate and she informs that that most of her cases for violent crime come from the white community. Such prejudice, not nice.

    1. I do value the work of law enforcement-I really do. There just has been too much in th elast 8 years in my state that does not make sense. I'm still struggling with the Philando Castile case-with no accountability at all for that officer and the poor man,did everything he was asked to do-but got conflicting direction and a trigger happy response.

  3. Sounds good Sam. Still just, home, home, home for me other than my daily beach walks. I have really been enjoying doing the A-Z Challenge. We still have a few week's before our second vaccines so we're looking at the end of May before we'll be in the "safer" zone. Good luck with your vaccines tomorrow. I hope you won't get much in side effects. Keep us posted!

  6. I am with you on the mutual respect for groups of people, and concern about events & bias. You can hold both perspectives at the same time.

Sam's school sports season just came to an abrupt end, as one of the teams got COVID & exposed a few other schools. He tested negative yesterday, so we're feeling very lucky about that.

I'm trying to wrap up a few things & make my to do list for tomorrow.

    1. I'm sorry for Sam. he was enjoying playing so much. With a rainy weekend, I too should make a good and deep to do list and make the most of being indoors.

  7. I do respect the law enforcement agencies. But, as an old white woman, I can tell you I was terrorized and treated with such mistrust and called names by a policeman who called in backup, another four cars, to my plight. Complaining would only have made it worse, and I was not in my town.

I did watch Prince Philips funeral. Really, a televised funeral does not show private moments, so why not?

Can you not justify reading professional material sent to you on work time? We were expected to do so. However, one teacher on her personal break was fired for reading a magazine.

I had my second shot on Monday, Tommy, too, but I will not feel free to do as I would before until I get a test for antibodies, and maybe not until the end of the year.

Making appointment with cardiologist is first order.

    1. Your police encoutwr sounds scary. I bet you have a blog post about it perhaps. I suppose if I really needed the onformation to do my job I can justify reading for work, but really don't have time.

  8. Work has been a nightmare-stop me if you’ve heard this one before! One manager and her family tested positive for Covid and can’t work, but not before hanging out at the bar with another manager, who also has to quarantine. That leaves two key holders, me and the new boss and we aren’t each other’s biggest fan. I’m working 9:30-7:30 tomorrow because it’s the other girls daughter’s birthday and while I may not care for her, I’m not going to ruin a 7 year olds birthday. It’s going to be fine, a long day, but nothing I can’t handle. I also have two more 10-7:30 shifts this week as well. There was also a big blowup between management on Saturday, which probably lead to the two of them getting drinks. So everyone is mad and frustrated and annoyed with each other and this store is getting more toxic by the minute. I fully understand the girls who are mad, I’m trying to keep things calm for the others, and playing nice with the store manager who is only being nice to me bc I’m all she has right now while being angry for getting stuck in this situation and incredulous that this could have been prevented if they just got vaccinated but have chosen not to. Only 23% of this stupid county has gotten the vaccine and that leaves me feeling hopeless as well. I don’t even know what else has happened this week, I feel like I’m in the twilight zone or something lol JoAnn

    1. That does sound horrible. Long days on my feet are hard, and multiple long days... I'm dumbfounded people are still so self centered. We know the vaccines will get the regular aproval at some point.

  9. Good luck with your second dose today!
On my mind: it seems to be all over the place lately with everything going on in the world.
Where I've been: nowhere but work this week so far
What I'm reading: just finished Four Winds and it was a very good book.
What I'm watching: Tournament of Champions 2 finished up this week. I like it because the judges have no idea whose dish they were eating keeping the competition very fair.
What I'm eating: We have a reservation today for our favorite restaurant and I couldn't be more excited.
What I'm planning: Seeing my mom on May 8th for the first time since last March.
    Have a great Saturday!!

  10. Maybe it's just spring being here but there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel doesn't there. We have one more week left of this lockdown and all have our fingers and toes crossed that we're almost done with this damn pandemic!
