The Weekly Friday Wrap Up

Make your own at wordart.com

Another week and another check in on the highs, lows, and random bits of  life. I played with a word cloud from WordArt.com. I know it can be a bit cringe, but thought it might personalize these weekly posts.  Here's the W's of my life for this week.

What's top of mind: R&R and getting things done. While I've checked in at work, I haven't  gotten sucked into  my emails which would have been easy to do. After the weekend, top of mind is spending the rest of the week with my girl before she goes back to school.

Where I've been: We've had a few days at the lake and will be there later this morning through the weekend. Life stuff taken care of was replacing my  ancient phone, getting DH a basic lap top (with some gift cards he's had for years from a promo), getting him shoes, out to eat several times, and to a movie with the girls for DH's birthday.

Where I'm going: Next weekend, DD1 and I are going to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit. I'm very excited and they have been promoting it as Covid safe. On the not excited front, I will need to work a shift at the state fair in late August. I will be masked entering, at the booth, and when I leave. I likely will not even be eating any tasty treats as I'll be happy to get back home. I hope it all goes well, but that's a whole lot of people with the Delta variant to be spread-and apparently quickly through unvaccinated folks.

What I'm reading:  I finished The Day Before Winter by Elizabeth Ogilvie and have jumped into The Summer House. by Jude Deveraux. It's an interesting read of what could have been an dhow choices made early in life can deeply impact life in the future. It's also a fun read to learn what might have we done different and would we change if we had that chance.

What I'm listening to: Nothing but the news or local radio in the car or in the back ground while doing other things. I will test out my new phone to see if with the added memory, I'll have better luck streaming pod casts.

What I've been watching: I've been watching some organization videos and trying to keep myself motivated. I've also watched a few meal prep challenges. I'm not sure if these would translate as well into blog posts, but I am noodling around different kinds of content, perhaps with a little video thrown in. I'd love to test my skills at seeing how many things I could make from one 5 pound bag of flour, or healthy meals with nothing but a fiver at Dollar Tree. I know-crazy stuff! See first posts-organizing my kitchen again to make it video worth is a must before that happens. DD2 started me watching a few episodes of Supernatural. It's interesting-sort of  Stranger Things, mixed with Criminal Minds, mixed with X-Files.

What I'm eating:  Too much! Not really, but after a week celebrating birthdays, I'll need to focus on getting those five a day back into my diet. I can report that the  Slow cooker pepper and tomato soup was really tasty, but I might have gotten a tad carried away with the black pepper. I've been craving  basic  pepperoni pizza all week and we indulged last night. Swimming burns roughly 600 calories an hour at a slow swim for my size. I'll just live in the lake for 1/2 a day and call it good.

Who I'm paying attention to: I'm not paying attention really, but  had moment of "egads' about  the  pillow man's whole cyber conference where he was going to  indisputably prove election fraud and China stealing Trump votes and giving them to Biden. Turns out, his own Cyber experts said he has nothing. It's jibberish smoke and mirrors. The whole thing was an attempt for the pillow man to try and stay relevant. He can stay relevant when he loses his  $1.3 billion dominion lawsuit.

What I'm planning:  Besides planning next week to get DD2 packed up again for school, I'm ready to host friends this weekend at the lake. The menu for Saturday will be a fruit, cheese, meat, olive appetizer with some bread and crackers, followed by grilled steak, a garden salad, and grilled veggies and potatoes. We'll have snacky things and lots of beverages for the boat.  We'll grill enough of all to have some sandwiches later for dinner. They decided they can't stay overnight as they have two dogs that are high stress so they seldom leave them, even with their own kids.

What's Making Me Smile: Pup just loves running around at the lake. He's not a big swimmer dog, but he will go in and wander. Seeing him jump when a sunny gets too close is funny, but then he just accepts them as art of the lake. I took the opportunity to give him a good both and he was tolerant if annoyed. After, he dried off, he sort of pranced around feeling both cooler and I'm sure, a little less itchy since  I likely got rid of little things that come with pets. He goes in on Monday for shots and a shave, so he ill be mad at me again for a few days.

No more rain since getting the morning soaker last Saturday and already things are turning brown again. My memories on various social media pointed out that this was the day three years ago we landed in Paris. I really do have the itch to change my surrounding's for a bit. Even though these two weeks were self proclaimed to be just R&R and home productivity, I really wish I was heading somewhere on a plane to experience life different from the normal. While I don't think things are all doom and gloom, I'm just not ready to take the risk of getting sick far away from home, or  jumping through hoops to be allowed to land in another place. I figure with Canada still closed to us  Americans, it seems silly to me to push travel elsewhere. And don't even get me started on my shyness towards cruise ships for quite a while, domestic travel only or not. I guess I'll just keep trying to make the most of what's left of summer and look forward to the leisure days of for fall weekends. What's going on in your life this week?

  4. You seem to have planned plenty of fun things to do and eat. The first day I heard the pillow guy had proof, I told tommy it was not true! Things here are sailing along, nothing very bad and nothing particularly spectacular. Things are fine. I am in no hurry to go anywhere. These four walls suit me since I do not want to become ill. I do agree with your sentiments on air travel and cruises. Wear double masks at the fair!

    1. I really am not pleased with the fair. Now requiring masks in office but having a booth at a potential super spreader event.

  6. You sound like you're having a wonderful time. I'm sure it'll do you both so much good. And I can't believe it's been 3 years since you came to France. Where on earth did the years go??? And I'm with you on getting the itch to travel too - or maybe it's just because I can't travel. But I guess no-one is going anywhere for quite some time yet though right?
