It's my nation's birthday. Despite my frustrations in the last weeks, I still think there is a lot of good and potential for good in this country. I'm thankful for those that fought in foreign wars. I am thankful for the spirit and love of air, land, and water by our indigenous communities, strengthening their values despite the atrocities committed against them. I'm happy for first responders not on power trips, and know I could not do their jobs. I'm thankful for good neighbors and people who volunteer for the betterment of their community.
I guess I'm just saying, I'll embrace what's good. Family and friend time has been abundant. We're all gainfully employed in my family and able to give back a bit as well. My kids are healthy, and saving towards their goals. I still have my personal faith, but won't put that on you. It's rooted in love and kindness, and I hope I'm a good example in my actions towards others and not just words and appearance. As you gather today or look up at fireworks, I hope you too embrace what's good, and work towards fighting any form of oppression. If we all don't feel like our rights and liberties matter, then none of us are truly free.
