In about two hours I will be starting my third to last day on the job. It is very sweet that I am being thrown a little reception this afternoon. It feels good to know that after 21 years, my contributions are acknowledged. I was unsuccessful in my bid to keep these last few weeks to just a 40 hour work week. So far this week I've already put in over 20 hours. Granted some of this has been my own doing for wanting to leave a purged office and organized files for my current managers and my successors. I hope I am seen as someone that took pride and gave more than 100% right up until my last minutes.
About 1/3 rd of my staff are foreign born residents, with English being a second language. All with great English skills, but sometimes the phrasing isn't exactly right. I had to laugh at one of that staff talking about today's gathering. I heard via the grapevine that there will be a short program with my boss saying a few words and others being invited as well. She shared with me, in a sweet personal goodbye conversation, that she couldn't speak in front of everyone. She told me, "I just wouldn't know what to say for your eulogy." Let's hope she doesn't have to do that speech for a long, long time.

It must all feel rather strange...but exciting too! All the best, Jx
ReplyDeleteStrange is the right term. It was a lovely send off, and I will miss most of the people. You soon will experience this I'm sure.
