Gifts? Snow?

OK Readers. I need your help. Our God son turned 10 this month and we have a party for him on Friday night. I am completely stumped as to what to get him, so reaching out in the world to parents, grandparents, and other bewildered aunties on what a boy this age will like. I nabbed a pretty cool basketball reversible shirt for him at a sale my daughters company was holding earlier in the month. Cash seems odd for a child this young, but what do I know anymore? I could just do a movie gift card, enough for him and a buddy to see a matinee, but then it becomes a chore for his parent to bring him and said friend. What's the hot topic books boys this age are reading now? Any great ideas, or even mediocre ones, please comment.

Wedding and shower gifts seem pretty easy with registries, and well, lots of life experience to know what items are needed. Baby showers in particular, adding some of the pricey disposable items are well received as the parents to be have no doubt started calculating all the bits that will now be part of their shopping habits. The gift giving gray matter for me is kids between eight and 13, and older adults. Teen boys that I don't know well, were difficult as well, for things like the family services gift collections, but readers came through with lots of suggestions there.

April 27th. I took pup out about 20 minutes ago and the air was crisp, but it wasn't raining and looked like it could be a decent if not cold day. Then I heard DD2 from her room just now. "Is it snowing?" Sure enough, flakes were starting to come down, and now have picked up the pace.  I doubt any will stay as the ground is so wet and I think it is above freezing, but it will make for some slick roads. Enjoy your day and pop in your gift giving thoughts, and your thoughts on snow on April 27th.

  1. I think the shirt is a great idea, unfortunately 10 year old guys are not thrilled with clothes. I would add an inexpensive basketball with it. I have never met a kid (male) who thought they had too many balls.

    1. I did get the shirt a few weeks ago and think he will like it because sports shirts are his thing. It was really a deal at $3.

  3. Cash(like $1 for every year old)and a big bag of some candy to tape it to.
Capt. Underpants books and/or gift card for a theater which will have that movie come to it.
ToysRUs gift card(kids that age still are into toys).

    That's all I got.
Enjoy the snow....bwwaaaahhhh(not saying that too loud since it might settle over us too).

  4. Snow this late in the year is insane in my opinion. Here we have been enjoying temps in the high 70s low 80s. Today it is WINDY as I think there is a front coming through. Supposed to have storms later.

As far as gifts, my go to for boys between 9-15 are things that are sports related. If he has a favorite sport then I get him equipment for that. If he has a favorite sports team, then I will get him something with that theme. For example, when my brother turned 13, I got him a nice Cleveland Cavaliers wallet, a couple years ago for Christmas I got him a Steelers Terrible Towel. I have also done posters of their favorite player, etc. I have also done like a shirt with their favorite team/player on it and a bag of their favorite candies. The last few years I have gotten my brother a pack of Nike or Under Armour socks and a huge bag of Twix. He loves it. I find boys much harder to shop for than girls. Good luck!

  5. We had snow showers on Tuesday, along with hail and sleet. We've had a lot of nights below zero over the last week to 10 days too:(
I'm of no help where gifts for children are concerned!

  6. My son still liked Lego at this age I think. Does he read? Diary of a Wimpy Kid was a favourite here.

  7. Sorry... I only had nieces so can't help on the gift front. We've had snow in some parts of the UK too this week. Hopefully it will stay dry for the weekend because we've got another Bank Holiday! Jx
