Friday already? The week seems to fly once I get through Tuesday. My presentation went well, and it is recorded for anyone who wants to watch later (no-not sending or posting a link).I needed to check on a follow-up item for a question. Egad! If seeing yourself captured for all posterity is not enough to want to give your look an overhaul, nothing will. My glasses had a weird glare, so I looked like my eyes were closed the entire presentation. I had fly away hair from hair that is in desperate need of a good cut and condition; my winter cheeks needed no blush at all-flaming red on the screen. Well, no one should have cared that I was not polished, it was my presentation and response to questions that should have mattered, yet still. I seem to start these Friday's with a little mind purge, and again I'm ready to go with my Friday W's.What's top of mind: I'd be a turtle hidden in my shell if I wasn't paying attention to the impeachment trial. No one thinks he'll be found guilty by the 2/3rds required, but it has been alarming to see all the lead up, the things we didn't originally see and hear, and how his cult hangs on every word. If that doesn't scare the crap out of most normal people, I don't know what would.
Where I've been: Banner week for me! My daughter stopped at the grocery store on Sunday before coming over for the game so I didn't even leave for milk and bread, but Wednesday I finally made the trip out as pup had finished all his food. I also hit the Dollar Tree and Aldi for a massive shop that should keep us stocked for the rest of the month and only need a few week to week perishables. Yesterday I worked from the office until nearly 3:00, but can't see that will be repeated for a long while.
Where I'm going: Other than walking pup, I have no where I need to go. I still have my sisters birthday gift as we haven't connected for weeks. I'm planning to make cupcakes tomorrow0something to do and I have cute Valentines papers and bought extra cream cheese to make a rich frosting. I'll bring some over to m MIL or have DH do it, plus some to my neighbors-keep just a couple for DH-maybe one for myself, 'cuz moderation!. Monday is Presidents day and a work holiday. We'll see if that means no work or just less work. My daughter has off and we may do coffee, but with the cold, I'm even more leery of being inside even a 50% capacity coffee house, so either we'll pick up and come back to one of our houses, or just save funds and brew our own. I ended up not getting a take out sandwich yesterday since I stayed 90 minutes longer than originally intended so a coffee splurge to help our extended family members shop is a good redirection of those funds.
What I'm watching: Last weekend I had a serious binge watching female led cast movies. Here's my run down:
Blackbird- Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslett, Lyndsey Duncan, which was thought provoking to how I would respond as the mother, the daughters, or the best friend.
Hope Gap-Annette Benning (with Josh O'Connor from The Crown fame, and all I could see what a young Prince Charles while watching). Again, another thought provoking, but very slow.
Mother's and Daughters-A little too tidy and contrived, but I could relate to some things
Things You Can Tell by Looking at Her-A movie from 2000 with a cast of strong women leads in various vignettes that was promoted as a romantic comedy, but was anything but. It was very sad and depressing actually, but while I can't say I enjoyed the movie, strong performances from all-whether you liked their characters or not.
What I'm reading: After finishing my book club book, I need to get a copy of Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid and see if I can either borrow form the library or anyone how may have read (as I read in a day or two anyway-all or nothing for me) as it is kind of expensive to buy right now. Depending on how much I want a wind down, I may just pull an old book and reread-maybe a summer read by Jane Green.
What I'm listening to: I streamed the school variety show, posted in three parts while doing some kitchen stuff. I've been listening to BBC World Service when I have blocks of time not in meetings.
What I'm eating: I was really missing potato chips. On a last second thought, I grabbed a bag of salt an vinegar. Now I love them, but I'm not going to sit and eat more than a small handful of that flavor, unlike plain or sour cream and onion, my favorite. I was being too free willing with the brownie's, so froze the last six.
Who I'm paying attention to: My daughter and a friend are doing a unique weekend adventure, going to a sort of of rescue dog get away. They rent a cottage and a shelter dog will stay with them for the weekend. It gets the dogs time to be with people and the dog has a little holiday as well. She plans to adopt a dog once she finds a house. I've asked her to write up her experience to share with you all soon. If she comes home with her new dog friend, we may have a lodger until she buys her house. (Not probable but possible!)
What I'm planning: I've been seeing commercials for a while on Stanley Tucci's Exploring Italy series which starts Sunday night. I've not been to Italy, so traveling by sofa sound s fun on a cold winter night. I'm taking Thursday off and the plan had been to go visit our daughter, as a mid point to her semester, but her schedule is so packed, we'd likely only see her for an hour or two, split up between classes and her working, so have rethought the plan. I'm still taking the day off-what should we do?
My trip out yesterday seemed to be yet another allergy inducer, so took an antihistamine after I woke up sneezing over and over. I think it has to do with having heat on in my car and the amount of time exposed. What's living in my car air filter I wonder that the deep freeze hasn't killed? It must be cold as I turned the heat up at 5:30 and it is taking a long time to reach 66 and I am chilled. I'll work with a blanket over my lap, but think I'll do a morning training from the living room couch. That's my W's for the week. Play along and share the What's of your life.
I don't know many people who would enjoy seeing themselves on the big screen, to be honest. We only ever see our supposed "faults" don't we. And I haven't seen the ad for Stanley Tucci and Italy - what's not to love? While I still like Stanley now, did you ever see him as a young man - rather gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to well groomed men who throw themsekves into experiences and that's what springs to mind with Tucci. It's on CNN starting tomorrow.
DeleteWhen I danced, and later, when I taught, the hardest thing for me was to watch videos of myself. I'd rather do ANYTHING else, no matter how strenuous than that.
ReplyDeleteThis was my big head, trying to be all composed, with odd lighting looking at other heads! And now in video archived for at least a year.
DeleteI'm glad your presentation went well, Sam. I know what you mean about seeing yourself in pictures. I look at pictures of myself and just cringe. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'll be curious to see the outcome of the impeachment. I don't think he will be impeached just like last time and with Bill Clinton.
Thanks for the movie reviews. I will have to check them out and see if we would like to watch them.
I'm with you on the potato chips, but last time I bought some for Bailey and not myself. (We like different flavors), but I might not be able to resist next time. LOL
I hope you have a great weekend!
I still am amazed the GOP thought Clinton had impeachable offences but not Trump- hard to fathom.
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend! I love Stanley Tucci.
ReplyDeleteI just want to pretend I'm travelling.
DeleteI don't even like to be in photos these days never mind on the screen, of course we are all hardest on ourselves.
ReplyDeleteMost of my W's (top of mind, watching, listening to, paying attention to) would be answered with impeachment trial. Where I've been - grocery shopping is it this week. What I'm eating - sticking with the menu plan. What I'm planning - wedding tomorrow!
I'll look forward to hearing about it, and the aftermath in 11-14 days. I hope all stay well.
DeleteI'm excited to watch Stanley Tucci's new series. I have the DVR set in case I miss it Sunday night. It is freezing cold here so I know your temperature must be even lower. Stay warm and enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's wretched! I'll be close to home.
DeleteI'm on video calls all day, and seeing myself..yikes. It definitely motivates me.
ReplyDeleteI found salt & vinegar Blue Diamond almonds & think they are delicious & a good crunchy, similarly flavored option instead of chips.
I'll give them a try. My mouth hurts after a couple so not a binge food.
DeleteWe had to turn the ac on, so no heat needed here until this afternoon. Never heard of Tucci, bit it sounds like something I would enjoy watching. I have been glued to the trial.
ReplyDeleteHeat and air same day is so odd to me. I wouldn't have heat in before it drops below 65 in the house consistently or air unless over 78.
DeleteI love the idea of the dogs and people getting to meet in a neutral setting.
ReplyDeleteThat travel series sounds lovely- I went to Italy several years ago, saw Rome, Florence, Venice and Cinque Terre.
My life is consumed with the weather right now - we're getting a major snowfall/cold snap this weekend! yikes!
My daughter sent photo's and the dog is lovely but her house is no dogs. I will armchair travel this weekend.
DeleteI’m still not watching the trial. We all know how it’s going to end and the details are hard to stomach. I am watching the weather, with anywhere from 4-8 inches possible or more and possible ice early next week. I’ve been no where but work and the store. I hate seeing or hearing myself in any format, including zoom/teams/meets. I’m planning on doing some cleaning tonight and throughout the week when I can squeeze in a project. I was going to make the feta cheese and tomato dish that is storming tiktok, but sadly feta is impossible to find. We googled Kraft-Heinz stocks and you can see the spike when the video went viral. It’s another wild and crazy Friday night here, looking up the parent companies of brands and checking the stock market lol. JoAnn
ReplyDeleteThose little videos are sure fueling new cooks in kitchens. Stay safe as you go about your days.
DeleteI am always very camera shy, as I always think I look awful, but we are all our worst critics. How can you possibly be exposed to anything with social distancing, and that cold weather. Maybe your husband brings stuff home. I think sneezy head colds are the worst. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThere's a link to my sneezing/snot filled nose and time in my car. No coughing and no sinus like head colds. I think there must be allergents in my air filter.
DeleteI do not know anyone but myself like chips with vinegar.
ReplyDeleteI think when I have them now I will think of you.
