Considering I fed 7 teens plus myself Friday-Sunday, it was a pretty frugal weekend. DD1 came as well and she always brings not just food for her own dietary needs and preferences, but plenty to share like hummus and a vegan pasta salad. I heard from parents that the kids had a lot of fun and were fed well, so I call it success. Still, even low cost food is expensive and added to yet more shopping for items for the college bound kid, I was grateful to find some wins here and there.
- This is the biggie. DD2 was looking for really good head phones. she had researched and found at Target, where she could use a plethora of gift cards she received on past holidays, birthdays, and graduation she bought them, but before opening, she did one more look on line. Turns out, the exact same ones were on Amazon 60% less. No doubt we ordered, thy arrived the next day and we returned the set to Target.
- DD1 was gifted produce form a coworker that had a bounty. She's not sure what to do yet with the peppers and tomatillo's but the 10 ears of corn were brought to the lake and I only needed to buy a dozen more. The corn was also $1 less at the farmer near the lake than it has been in town. she may make a pico de gallo salsa.
- At the small town pizza place, the three topping pizza was on special, plus he decided to give us a 20% discount which came to $13-paying for the vegan pizza completely.
- Most of the Wednesday night Trivia group members had conflicts or needed a break this week. Instead, DD2 and I took pup to the dog park. Later, DD1 joined us for some mocktails made with fruit from the freezer, and leftover chips and salsa form the weekend, so a free night with lovely company.
- I was able to get my vitamin D regular tablets added to my prescription to take once the meg dose is done. Interesting that the lowest price Over the counter was nearly $9 for $60, but my supply of 30 were $2.96. It's $18 saved over the year.
I've had a lot of eating out this week on my stay cation, planned but still a budget bite. I'm glad we could find some ways to reduce sending in other places.
Sounds like you had some great frugal wins with your family!
ReplyDeleteUsually it's the little wins, but the $60 savings was a needed one for us.
DeleteFrugal wins are always great. I cut up peppers and tomatoes and sautee them with a little olive oil and salt. It can be eaten like that or with some plain yogurt on top. Sometimes we crack a couple of eggs on that mixture. After they are sauteed, they freeze well too. It was wise of your DD2 to look up the headphones one last time.
ReplyDeleteThe veggie mix sounds so delicious. I can see it eaten on toast as well-with the egg really delicious. I want to take full advantage of summer produce now.
DeleteGetting a child out the door for college can be expensive but you know that as you have done this before. Great on feeding the masses.
ReplyDeleteSome items are buying seconds of consumables-but man they add up quick. Other things will be one and done and not needed to buy again like her fan, computer an accessories, and chairs.
DeleteNice to have a lovely evening for "free" and with good company. That was definitely a win!
ReplyDeleteWe did not do that enough this summer. I love my cocktail hours!
