New Things to Entertain

Our county park system has been promoting more outdoor activities for the past year or so. A month ago I saw that a nearby park, one all out kids like to hang out at with hammocks and frisbees was having an illuminated by candlelight event to promote waking skiing and snowshoeing. I reached out to my mom group of friends and miraculously, we were all free. We walked a few miles on a couple different paths, bundled up, but there were tended fires along the way on any trail. We topped of the night with appetizers and adult beverages. We definitely will do again! Horrible pictures of the  candlelit trails, but you get the idea.

Saturday we met up for dinner and drinks (I know spendy, spendy but were early enough that my beer was still happy hour priced and DH hasn't drank since being sick.) As we chatted, four of us started talking about when we had a 500 card club. The third couple hadn't played 500, but we know it is an easy game to  pick up. They were game to give it a try. We needed either  2 or 6 more people as you play at tables of four. Before we had left, another couple was recruited and we are starting this up third Saturdays, starting in April, and we'll be first hosts. I really stepped out of m comfort zone this weekend! IT is an inexpensive night as the host will provide beverages and snacks and maybe a light meal like sandwich fixings, then the next host does, so three months of get togethers, for probably what we spent on one night out.

I have to finish the book blub book, Drowning with Others by Linda Keir tonight as the meeting is tomorrow. I'm sure we will be a small groups again, as even though six have rsvp, no doubt there will be the no shows. I was exhausted after the bridal shower yesterday, so read a very little bit, watched a YouTube and went to bed early. Yes, we will be eating leftovers for a few meals, but I sent home stuff with others and am bringing a cheese cake to work today. This weekend is my nephews wedding on Friday and then the bachelorette party on Saturday for my niece which is an Escape room and dinner out, nothing wild as many aunts and her mom are coming. She is not that kind of bride anyway. Lot' s of new and busy on my calendar. How was your weekend and if you have anything new going on, please share.

  1. That candlelit walk looks lovely - right up my street in fact. And yay for you setting up a card-game evening!!!! I actually said to my neighbours when we went to see Porgy and Bess the other week that I would like to play more card games next time so who knows, we may well follow suit!

    1. It was very nice. A great way to pre-burn beer calories.

  2. Despite the cold, that nightwalk sounds a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed it with friends. My SIS brought three books for me on Friday night. I have already read two of them:) I like Harlan Coben books.

  3. Will there always be candles or is this just to introduce the concept of walking at might?

What type discussion do you have at the book club? After graduate level English classes, I research the author and background thoroughly. a low-level library poo poo-ed the idea of discussing the author or anything besides the favorite parts of the book. I took it that my background would not be welcome. Just wondering.

    2. There literally were thousands of luminaries so, this is a once a winter kind of thing, though folks can walk with their own head lamps or flashlights whenever they would want the trails are groomed for cross country skiing, but I don't know how much the paved one are kept plowed. We just talk about the book-sometimes follow questions, sometimes not.People may reference another book by the author or share what they know about an author, but I'd say no one is init to be a mini college class. You'd be welcome, but the intent is just to discuss the book in general. I'm sure there are more literary groups out there that would love to have a deep dive into all things you suggested.
