It is snowing hard! I'm hauling things out to my sisters in a few hours for her daughters, my nieces bridal shower. She has more room and no dog to try and work around so it works better there, but all the hauling in this snow will be a bear. I probably have food for 50, but in my head was planning for 30 generously. No doubt the snow will keep a few folks away, so there will be leftovers. I'm trying to estimate how much between my daughter and niece, who are hosts, and myself spent. I'm estimating about $150 for all food, drinks, party ware, games and doors prizes I think that is a bargain for 30 people, considering a full lunch and desert is being served. It could have been a much larger group but many of her cousins are not able to come due to their own child commitments or they live more than an hour away.
I know there will be leftovers. No one in my family has ever left any occasion hungry, or was hungry the next day either. So in part I don't want to think about meals until I see what I will need to use up. I made five pounds of chicken shred plus have three pounds of taco meat. I have both hard and soft shell taco, plain and whole wheat. There's black, bean and corn salsa, refried beans, and chips, guac and regular salsa. I bought thee bags of the ready to serve southwest salad, and will mix a bag at time so if I over bought, it will stay fresh longer. There will be a mandarin orange jello salad, just because. I made daiquiris but DD1 bought sparkling lemonade, plus I have soda and juice boxes for kids. Desert will be a cheese cake assortment, plus last minute I decided to buy a 7-Up Bundt cake at Aldi, as there may be those that don't eat cheese cake. It' all about the food in my family. My sister's in-laws are invited as well. They are a small group and we've known them forever and a good bunch, but not the shower throwing type. But all invited are coming from the other side of her family, unless this weather gets in the way. My nieces future mother-in-law and future brother-in-laws girlfriend are expected as well. I'll let you know tomorrow how the party went.
It has been a jam packed weekend. I need to wrap her gift and get tin the shower. DD1 is coming over to help me load up and get to my sisters by 11:30, giving us 90 minutes prep time. That's should be more than adequate as we try and keep things simple. I should add, I am using some leftovers from DD2's grad party which defray probably about $10 of paper ware expenses, and the last of a bottle of rum DH bought for some gathering and no idea when he will next use it, so a good wqy to aoid waste. I'm off to finish my cup of coffee and hop in the shower. I hope your Sunday is a good one, wherever you are.

It sounds like it's going to be a great party! And, a reasonable amount spent to host so many people. Hope the party goes well!
ReplyDeleteSnow and illness kept folks away, but we ended up with 26, plus my brother-in-law and nephew had a bite to eat after, and loads of leftovers.
DeleteGood luck I am sure it will be fun. You are right no one ever leaves our house hungry either. You can always use the leftovers.
ReplyDeleteWe could have used more lettuce shred and guacamole, but then neither of those really work as leftovers so it was good.
DeleteSounds like it Will be a fun party!
ReplyDeleteShe got some lovely gifts and it was good to see family.
DeleteUncanny, as I've been planning for the past couple of days to make a 7-Up Bundt cake. DH bought some nice rum at Costco yesterday though, so that may change to a rum soaked pound cake.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your party and best wishes for a great week.
For a $3.99 Aldi cake, people really raved about this one.
DeleteHave fun, sounds like a pretty frugal get together to me. Meal planning around the leftovers is a good idea. Hubby flew out this morning, I have 2 days of leftovers to deal with so I know what I'll be eating (thankfully so since the oven needs cleaning before I can cook anything)
ReplyDeleteI didn't overspice the chicken so we can eat a couple different ways, plus DH can take in wraps. The beef, perhaps Il find some sort of an enchilada recipe.
DeleteEnjoy your day! Congratulations to your niece.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Her big day is in a month.
DeleteI too wish you well wishes at shindig
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty good shindig as showers' tend to be.
DeleteThis shower sounds like fun with all the family there and new and old friends. Leftovers of this food can be eaten tomorrow as you said. I love a good party!
ReplyDeleteIll stretch them out, but I also sent with others.
