I'm still living by the motto every little bit helps. Whether it's using a gas coupon, maximizing leftovers, or bringing a bag to collect trash and rubbish when on a walk. I think if we all did a little bit of thrift in all parts of our life, perhaps we will make a collective dent on run amuck consumerism, food and trash waste, and the environment- while not suffering a bit. We ate out twice, I had a work outing, plus had gift giving events so the check book was active. While I didn't have a particularly thrifty week monetarily, in other ways I tried to practice my broader thrifty ways including time and resources.
- Still loading Fetch receipts and trying to remember MS Rewards daily trivia
- Cobbled together two meals from a found pound of hamburger using pantry and freezer finds
- Made use of ingredients that came home with my daughter from college for lunches
- She made good use of her travel money and actually came home with cash! She said she took full advantage of meals that were included in hotel and excursions, and avoided tourist shopping.
- Bought the super large rice crispy box for grad party treats, and now have the makings for dessert bars for the weekend, and likely next week too.
- Helped my SIL, who made the food herself, serve a delicious food spread for much less than catered food would have been. I left there with most big kitchen jobs done so they'd have less to do after everyone left.
- We car pooled a bit to the party, saving a third vehicle driving. ( I road with my daughters and home with DH who came after work)
- My family left a park looking nicer than it was, despite not being able to clean the dock area that was under water.
- Odd weather- week, with both above and below average temperatures. We avoided both using heat and air conditioning in the house. I've still got my fuzzy slippers for my feet while I work.
I definitely agree about each person cutting back just a bit, nothing that hurts or really shows. I took 1.13 lbs. of ground pork and made enough taco soup for two meals and a portion that will be lunch or dinner for one of us. I meant to double the black beans because I love them. If I had remembered, we would have had another meal. With free and sale items, it cost less than $2 for so many helpings. Plus, it would not have hurt if I cut back a bit on my servings!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice you enjoy soup when it's so warm where you live.
DeleteOops just saw a porn ad here- 24 hour link to a couple of big busted gals? Believe me I did not click on it lol. I cooked a corned beef from St Patrick’s day yesterday and am making Rubens later. I really have a low grocery bill this month but spent in other ways- 3 birthdays and grandson’s graduation money. I’m going next week to my nephew’s graduation in Myrtle Beach. He’s my youngest nephew so no more graduation ceremonies since next GD has 10 more years to go and I’ll be too old! I was thinking when your daughter moves in, you should all be responsible for an evening meal. That will get you off the ‘hook’ for a few meals. I’m sure your husband can cook if he has to- mine made Christmas dinner the year I was in bed rest before daughter was born January 6th. He never had cooked much in his life but did a great job and even baked a pie from scratch- crust and all. Nan
ReplyDeleteWell that needs sorted. I'm not supposed to get political or other... Ish. I'm so sorry. Of course everyone can contribute. My older daughter eats very differently and both will have different schedules. We'll get it figured out.
DeleteSounds like you did well Sam.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I did some shopping and bought quite a few flowers/plants. They are perennials so will bring me joy year after year instead of buying annuals. I found a number of summer tops. I buy good quality clothing in classic styles so these will serve me for many years. All and all I did pretty well this week.
I just have such poor luck with perennials, animals and crazy lawn mower husband.
DeleteI hear you on the odd weather, it's supposed to be 18°C today but the wind is really cold. i could do with some fuzzy slippers! x
ReplyDeleteIt's so chilly under my desk. My toes were turning blue.
DeleteI'm saving my pennies for being off work next week, in anticipation of a wee shop at my favourite consignment stores!
ReplyDeleteOh fun. And I'm sure we'll get to see your finds.
DeleteAll those little thrifty actions do most definitely add up over time. Arilx
ReplyDeleteIt is useful just to avoid waste
DeleteOh no Shiela is going shopping, what will she find? That girl and her nummy wardrobe, making us all jealous. I think all the little things add up. IT is so easy to spend money on a whim and it becomes a bad habit.
ReplyDeleteSmall thrifts are still thrifts! Love the slippers. Cold is relative. It has not been but 70 and rainy here and I am cold, but then I woke and put on shorts and flip flops, so I am partly to blame for being chilly.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be very warm this weekend so my slippers can get a break. I'm ready for flip flops.
DeleteLove those socks!
ReplyDeleteErr slippers!
ReplyDeleteThey are really just a very thick sock!
DeleteI hate cold feet and always wear slippers or thick socks when I am sitting around.
ReplyDeleteI wished I had thought to bring a pair for the lake.
Deletethat is a good motto indeed. It is hoped nothing is too small as not to be noteworthy
