Menu? Totally Playing By Ear

It was an odd week where Tuesday hit 80° and we had snow in Friday. I went from not wanting to add heat by baking in the oven to leaning into the warmth of soup in the stove. My menu showed both the end of summer produce and the perfect comfort foods, with shear laziness tossed in. What passed for meals this week?

  • Sunday- Pasta with sauce from my daughter's veggies, dinner out for our anniversary
  • Monday- I ate my dinner leftovers and made DH a hit turkey and cheese hoagie with tomatoes and onions, with tater tots.
  • Tuesday- Stuffed peppers
  • Wednesday-Roasted chicken and potatoes with green beans
  • Thursday- Chicken pot pie, sort of
  • Friday- Chicken noodle soup
  • Saturday - Pizza, DH wanted and I didn't object

I'm not sure what meals will be. With me being gone Sunday- Tuesday, Tuesday needs to be easy and DH will need to fend for himself a few days. I know there's cheddar brats and a couple Aldi red bag chicken. There's plenty of soup still if he's not tired if it.  I've got a large portion of stroganoff in the freezer he could have. Stay tuned for what excitement comes from my kitchen this week.

  1. I made pizza last night with a salad and it really hit the spot. I hope you enjoy your work trip.

    1. I'm snug in a ridiculously big room- one of the apartment style.

  2. Haha, meals this past week were a bit of a mess. Here's what I can recall: We had fish and chips with homemade coleslaw for Dh's birthday. Cottage pie made with leftover beef tenderloin another night, risotto on Thursday. I made a really nice slow cooker potato soup for Friday night, but Would-Be-College-Boy-Who-Now-Has-a-Plan was the only kid home, so I turned off the slow cooker, and he, DH and I went to...Denny's! I had their sirloin steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli, and let me tell you, it was one of the best meals out I've had in a long time. (Granted, I don't eat out much.) We also went to Cabella's afterwards where I did NOT buy a really nice Columbia Sports skort for $49.00, so there's savings there. (I wear skirts and skorts almost exclusively.) The potato soup turned up as lunch yesterday. Dinner was slow cooked pot roast (beef chuck roasts were $2.99/lb.) Leftovers of that will be a beef pot pie tonight, as I'm NOT cooking today. Going forward, in no particular order, I think we will have baked salmon, meat loaf and mashed potatoes, tuna casserole, and some sort of pasta--perhaps lasagna. I'm really off my cooking game. Have a great week, and good luck on your work trip.

    1. It all sounds far from a mess to me. Good fish and chips, a real goodness cottage pie? Yum.

    1. Mine had rice, smoked sausage, onion, and cheese. They were peppers from my daughter's garden.

  4. I am thinking of a crockpot full of beans since it is going to freeze here on Wednesday. Hopefully, it is wrong. I really want blackeyed peas since I bought chow chow to go with them. Monday night, I will cook lots of chicken for meals. Of course, sweet potatoes will figure heavily along with the leftover kale and salad greens.

    1. I know chowchow is a relish. I'm not familiar with eating with black eyed peas. Enjoy.

  5. Sounds like your dh is all set with good meals for this week. Today is Bailey’s birthday, so we are going out to celebrate. 😊
