My Week in W's-Finter Edition??

The scene on the dog walk yesterday morning. Of course it all melted by early afternoon but the taunt of things to come. Oh my gosh the young dog loved it! I'm not trusting enough of myself or him to let him run off leash, but he would have had a ball in the middle of the park. Scroll to the end though and you'll see the snow was short lived. That one was taken at 1:00 yesterday. No sign of snow at all.

What's Top of Mind:

Being away for a couple days for work. I think DH and my daughter have a good plan in place for dogs, but I've sort of got a system that's working. Yes, I have control issues, lol. He's really coming along. Jumpiness when he's very excited, some zoomies still ( needs a lot of things to keep him both physically and mentally active), and building trust he won't get into things to wreck are the main challenges. Sit, Kay down, stay, and wait though are developing skills that we see get more consistent each day.

Where I've been:

DH and I had an anniversary dinner out after both a short ship at Kohl's and a visit with his mom. I went to my daughter's yesterday late afternoon for some girl time, give DH and pup an evening to relax and be puppy free.

Where I’m going:

We're going to the small village fall festival and see how the young dog handles groups of people. When he has kennel time, we're going to hit some stores that are more a destination. Tomorrow I head for a two day leadership conference. Fingers crossed noore snow, even if it's quite cold.

What I'm eating:

I did get soup made on Friday. I made chicken salad too, DHs favorite, for sandwiches. Besides the first night of chicken and roasted potatoes, we had a sort of chicken pot pie. Each made several meals. I e been munching on baby carrots and grapes, but I devoured a box of tropical Swedish fish.

What I’m watching:

The dogs and I have a routine. I give them a walk about 5:00, then check for any late messages, but try to feed the young dog by 5:30. I turn the news in then while he eats, I complete any reamaining work that will make the next day go better, then, start our dinner. We go from national to local news, to Wheel of Fortune. The pattern, even if I'm only partially paying attention, seems to calm them both. Our pup is just fed when he seems to be hungry, seperately from the food monster. I'm still fitting in House of Dragons at some point. I want to get caught up with the new British Baking show season.

What I’m reading:

I need to start the bookclub book The All Girls Filling Station Last Reunion. I think it will be a light book before heading into  but still have several weeks. I'll bring along to the conference for evening reading. I'm woefully behind a lot of work related reading. Who has time unless it's personal, and I don't have that right now.

What I’m listening to:

I listened to a few work produced YouTube videos while getting other things done.  On the drive back Thursday I had the January 6 hearing on. I don't care what your party affiliate is, the man was unhinged.

 What I’m planning:

The sisters day and overnight is a go for November 5th.  It'll be a nice get away, even if just for the day. Grandpup is getting fixed that Friday so she'll be home mothering him. She's gone the weekend of Halloween, Friday to Monday morning so we'll have him. I shared in someone's comments that's I'm going to be a Halloween scrooge and turn off lights. Pup always goes berserk with Trick or Treaters. I'm not barking two dogs. My personal sanity is more important than kids getting more candy that let's face it, ultimately gets thrown out!

Who needs a good slap:

I like how Spo said politician's are too easy, so kept them out of his weekly W. I might add door knockers for politicians can be slapped too. I know that's how word is spread, but poor DH had his hands full on Thursday and got interupted as he finally sat down to take a break.

Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump):

Me! I managed to sweep the floor while the young dog just watched. I've met too many tasks just sit undone waiting for calm. But, we need to just get in with things and he'll learn to see the things done around the house, where he should wait, and when we are done and can give him some love. He's fascinated watching things, and brain power is stimulating to dogs.

What’s making me smile:

The snow was short lived, that makes me smile in and if itself,  but both dogs thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course the puppy never saw it before. He'd scoot his nose to smell, then have a little mound in his nose, then shake, and do it again.

What's up in your world this week? Anyone else going to be a Halloween Scrooge?

  1. My husband has already visited Costco for two HUGE bags of candy, so we'll definitely be passing out candy. Gone are the days when we'd get 100 kids, but I'm hoping for at least 30. I love seeing the little ones from the neighborhood.

    1. I do normally enjoy, but this year I'm giving myself a break.

    2. My son and daughter in law live on a circle area in our smaller town that is the Halloween circuit! In fact when they bought the house we were like yeah! (A resting/bathroom place for Halloween). And there’s a Halloween party open house type every year. We all bring big bags of candy and the count was way over a thousand treaters (going by candy count). The first year we were running trying to scrounge more! Of course Covid derailed things a bit, hoping it’s more back to normal this year! Jre

  2. Oh man I’m dreading snow. I suppose it’s not too bad if it doesn’t stick to the roads, but I’m such a summer girl at heart, winter makes me sad. I think you replied to me about being a Halloween Scrooge because I certainly am this year as well. I volunteer to close every Halloween since I don’t have littles and we might get five trick or treaters. DH was all set to take off work that night and have a fire and pass out candy but it’s kinda pointless. I did put up a few spooky things yesterday that were at the top of the decoration tub. We went to the Asian Lantern Festival at the Pittsburgh Zoo yesterday and it was incredible. I put some pictures on Instagram. Absolutely beautiful. I felt like a kid going back and forth looking at everything! I got a hand-written, incredibly religious letter in the mail this week, stumping for certain candidates that I would rather shoot to the moon than vote for. They can slap themselves for wasting a lot of time, energy and resources on that nonsense. Your soup looks delicious. I made chicken tortilla soup and not only was it super easy but so good. Definitely a winner. Next up is a chicken and wild rice Panera dupe. I like theirs but find it sort of flat, so I can’t wait to pump up the garlic and seasonings in it. I work all day and plan on coming home and watching the Pens game with a stiff beverage. There were standing room tickets left for the game and we would have went but somehow I got stuck closing two Saturdays in a row. We actually prefer standing room, you have more space and 2.5 hours is nothing when I’m on my feet sometimes 10 hours a day lol. JoAnn

    1. That's rough being in your feet. I was wiped out from shopping yesterday! The dog walking is nothing compared to battling Trader Joe's and Sam's Club on a Saturday.

  3. Tommy has no porch lights, so we are forced into pitch darkness for everything. I am forcing myself not to buy candy corn for me.

My sister said living with a dog is like living with a perpetual 2-yr-old. Her house was like a zoo with the cat and birds and dogs!

    1. I get more baffled with your living conditions. How can two poorly mobile people, who may depend on others at some point for help, not have outside lights? I'll take pets and small children over many adult people, but yes, both are time consuming.

    2. I too am baffled! Great word! Linda you make it sound like a prison and Tommy is so horrible … why do you still live there? Later years in life can be some of the best. Perhaps you can’t take care of a home now but what about a senior building where some things are provided and some are independent

    3. I think Timmy and Linda get out and about in nice days a lot. I would worry about falls, or others falling if they came in the dark to help. Heck, I'm in danger when I try and skip turning in lights in my house.

    4. Yes fair. It’s sad because Linda often complains people do t provide proper service to her, yet if someone needs to come in the middle of the night to offer medical service for example, she’s creating a really dangerous situation. I worry. It sounds like a very sad and precarious situation.

    5. Interesting you ladies bring this up. I can’t comment on Linda’s blog as I don’t have one. But I wanted to offer her any help in reaching out to her children to get some help from them. Maybe a neutral bridge builder as I do believe some support is needed in a dire situation. - from kels and can provide an email if she’d like some help

    6. Linda I have bought very reasonable ( I think 29.00) large solar light fixtures (they look like real porch lights with a arm and actual light fixture) from Tractor Supply and I know you can order online. They were simple to install, like 2 screws. Maybe an idea although a light on all night may bother some people. Mine are on a shed, in a fairly shady area in Minnesota and still lights up well. Still working at 2 years up! (I’d still seen them there). I know I have kids with zero outside lights at their side door and I’ve bugged them about doing even a little solar something, I think I’ll buy one myself as she’s due with first baby in two months. Not safe! And this is the door coming from their garage with two steps to get to the door! Jre

  4. The fall colors in your photo are beautiful!

We don't get any trick or treaters at our house, and the teens haven't yet decided what to do. It's their first day of soccer tryouts, so I doubt they will be up to much. Monday isn't a very festive Halloween day. ;-)

  5. We enjoy Halloween so will be handing out candy. (already purchased and boxed so not nipping into it - neither of us need any) Living in a smaller community makes Halloween a bit different. Generally, the kids are all under the age of 12. There may be a few older kids, but they often have a younger brother or sister with them. We love to see their costumes. Last year there was not one child that didn't thank us. A couple of littles' even wished us a Happy Halloween. I might add, we only had 44 Trick or Treaters last year. Ranee

    1. We had maybe 30 last year and stretched out so it'll be hard on dogs, so therefore us. I do enjoy seeing kids but I just decided it's too much this year.

  6. We love giving out candy for Halloween. With all of the downtown trick or treating and the trunk or treats we don't get as many as we used to but we enjoy getting dressed up and doing it.
Your soup looks delish! Enjoy your Saturday.

  7. That soup looks sooo good.
In regards to your puppy, its always good to get them used to your daily life, and the things you use like brooms, vacuum cleaners, things that make noise. It's a bit like babies really isn't it? Megan.

    1. I remember pup attacked brooms when he was a puppy. It was funny. This guy did well the other day. He's getting used to the house sounds.

  8. Your festival sounds lovely, I hope you had fun. The colour the trees in your photo are glorious. Hallowe'en isn't something I'm interested in despite it starting to get as popular here as it is in the States. It seems like an excuse to buy even more plastic tat which ends up in landfill a week later.
What's Top of Mind: Will I have time to wrap the ebay sales before going to the pub tomorrow?
Where I've been: In the last seven days - the swimming baths twice, the pub three times, a new Nepali restaurant in town, the charity shops and a stately home.
Where I’m going: Tomorrow - the pub, Tuesday & Friday - swimming (and the pub and possibly the cinema), Wednesday - the dentist, Thursday - out with a friend - that's the plan so far.
What I'm eating: Tonight it's flatbread with salad, tomorrow it'll be a pub lunch and the rest of the week is all dependent on what's in my £1.50 Lidl box.
What I’m watching: Tonight Bloodlands on the BBC, hopefully The Woman King at the cinema on Wednesday.
What I’m reading: Spies by Michael Frayn
What I’m listening to: Jon's got The Guns of Navarone on in the other room so it's gunfire and explosions.
What I’m planning: A few days away in February, depending on the price of the flights.
Who needs a good slap: I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Who Deserves Knuck's (Fist Bump): I'm British, we don't do that kind of thing!
What’s making me smile: I don't need a reason to smile, I'm not nicknamed "Smiler" for nothing! xxx
