We've got a lot of comings and goings going on and ahead of us. DD1 was in Nashville all week for work. I picked her up from the airport around 9:00, exhausted. She needed to get home, unpack, laundry, and then pack for a weekend trip with friends and for a side work project. DS got his airfare booked to come home for his sisters graduation party/Father's Day in June. Price was $233, which is unheard of for round trip, non-stop from Los Angelos. He should be able to get by with a carry on, or just a second back pack since it is just along weekend trip and for the most part after the party, he'll live in swim trunks at the lake Saturday through when he flies back on Monday. He hasn't spent any time there since the new cabin was built other than a day in the last tow Decembers.
DD1 has her trip to Iceland planned, but with flexibility, securing a hostel for the week They plan to get out of the city as well, but have a place for the very busy time of year. A friend from the UK is meeting her there. She'll leave Father's Day night. I'm excited for her and her friend is an absolute sweet heart, so great that they can connect again. They haven't seen each other in three years since her friend came here, but a great example of how really good friends can stay in touch over many miles and pick up where they last left off.
As her graduation gift, DD1 has planned a summer road and camping trip with her sister, staying at state parks with waterfalls. They'll make it economical, but I think it is a really lovely thing for the two to do together.
I spent a chunk of yesterday working with our administrator on booking two trips for myself for work, one in May an done in June. The May is fairly short, just one night I believe, but June is for five days. Only pup and DH seem to be missing out on the comings and goings. After the last couple months of work, I think the most DH would like is a day or two at the cabin by himself to sleep, hike, eat, and sleep some more.
I best be getting on with my day. I have a three day weekend to make a lot of progress on purging and planning. Sunday we are picking out the flooring and appliances, and then scheduling the installation and delivery. I'll be back in Kitchen business by the end of April.

Sounds like your clan is going to be busy, except for Dh and the pup! Have a wonderful long weekend.
ReplyDeleteThey both need to chill anyway! Pup right now is angry a the world, barking sporadically at any sound she hears outside.
DeleteYAY a functioning stove! When we ordered appliances we had to wait a while so be prepared for that (we live in a small town though)
ReplyDeleteIf done by end of May, I'll be happy. There is plenty of other things to do, if we have to push the kitchen back. We are mostly replacing-not any real renovation, so I' crossing my fingers it is not a disaster time wise! Otherwise, ordering pizza and sald for graduation is not the end of the world!
DeleteYou're redoing the kitchen!!! Pictures, please, if you don't think it to intrusive. (I'm a sucker for a before and after.) I am so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteFunny story: Earlier in the week I had a hissy fit with my building superintendent--I got it in my head I liked neither my floors or cabinets. He crossed his arms, smiled, and waited for me to finish berating myself, then said "come back at 4 and tell me what you think, then we'll see what we can do." He was right. I love them. When I picked them out (back in July) I told the design consultant that I wanted all hardwood, and I was perfectly fine with builder's grade boring. Mistake 1) I took eldest son who was very opinionated and somewhat bold in taste 2) I didn't stop the minute I picked the flooring I liked--not loved, but liked, I let her continue to show me more. Plain, honey blonde oak would have suited me fine, or I might've been bold and gone for a gunstock finish...what can I say, I am boring. 3) I stayed too long. I should have split it in three appointments--floors one day, counter/backsplash the next, then cabinets. I got worn out, panicked, and let the consultant finish for me. But, now I have a dark, warm, acacia floor, with matching cabinets, and I never would have dared on my own! But, if I ever do this again, I will do it differently. IF, that is. It was exhausting.
Happy Friday!
Redoing the kitchen is a stretch. Let's call it a overdue touch up. For sure we'll put in new flooring, but in our neighborhood, the price point needs to not exceed what we would get out of it, so we are going with a pleasant contemporary neutral, and basic appliances that will suit me just fine for the length of time we live here. Unless we really figure it out, we'll hold off on the counter tops and back splash (though I'd just like the whole mess done at one time), but putting the floor in when appliances will be out just makes better sense. We'll see what Sunday brings us. I'll also paint the kitchen table and chairs. One will be black and the other brown-need to look at some examples before I finalize. It will look different, yet the same.
