Thanksgiving was good. The girls ran the 8K charity run-DD1 doing really well considering she doesn't call herself a runner, though she is very much an athlete. It was rougher on DD2 who has been stretching her intellectual muscle rather than physical muscles at college. After a rest, ice, and ibuprofen, she felt better. During the run, DH and I popped into the brewery, though despite the beer and breakfast sandwich special, we had coffee and hot chocolate and chatted with other people that came downtown, but didn't run. We then watched the girls cross the finish line, and lingered until DD2's friend finished a bit later. Since we were staying in town and my sister wasn't eating until 2:00, we could have a leisurely rest of our morning. The food was all so good, and no shortage. pretty much all the ham was eaten or people took in care packages. The sweet potatoes were devoured and the veggie tray was nibble don before, during, and after the meal, but DD1 and I went over board. No harm there as I love having prepared vegetables ready for snacking. She took the cauliflower because she uses for all sorts of meal bases, but I'll have a crudity plate for my lunch.
DH has to work and DD2 is heading out with friends shortly. They are going to attempt the Mall of America not so much for shopping, but more to hang out. We got a dusting of snow so that makes me a little nervous, but she's a good driver, so will keep positive thoughts that other drivers are aware of the road conditions as well. Two of my sisters share Minnesota Wild tickets and no one is available today due to work or other plans so I'm the lucky recipient of ticket number two. I'll be picking her up at 1:45 so we can find parking and get through the chaos before the puck drop at 3:00. Later we're meeting up with other family to play Bingo for big money at the Eagles club. It's an old time club/bar with cheep drinks and beer, soft drinks bought by the can and chips in bags for nibbling. Before the indoor smoking ban, I could never spend an evening there, but now for an occasional night out, it is kind of nostalgic. I just got a text from DD1 though that today she feels quite sore and has a major cold coming on. She was going to join us later, but now thinks she might just pass and rest up.I'm hoping to power clean this morning so that tomorrow and Sunday I can decorate my house. The downtown area tomorrow has a Holiday Hoopla and a parade, very tiny, to wrap up small business Saturday. DD1 and I plan to go down later afternoon and see if we can make any dents in our shopping, but we'll see depending on how her cold fairs.
I now have my full list of the "who" after drawing names. On my side of the family since Christmas Eve is more open house style with a lot of the younger generation coming and going, its opt in for gift exchange. We are participating, though, I think I may be rethinking. It depends on what DH and the kids want to do, though they can choose for themselves. I'm trying to think of a couple good games for the night. Last year I did the saran wrap where items are hid, and the ball has to be unwrapped as people shake doubles. It was not a success mostly because some of the kids didn't get what they wanted, and others found loop holes. If anyone has ideas-I'm all for it.
It's nice that it is just Friday and I still basically have the weekend ahead. however, with Thanksgiving being so late, there's only three weekends after this one until Christmas and we'll be gone one of them. I'll need to be more productive in my evenings with treat making and baking, shopping, and wrapping. Until tomorrow, have a good Friday.
That's funny, we did the saran wrap "pass the parcel" last Christmas too - I made them wear rubber gloves, but my son said it would have been even better with ski gloves!! And gosh I remember those days before the smoking ban. The smell of smoke didn't bother me as such if I had "access" to fresh air, but when you were "locked in" some place with all those smokers I hated it, especially coming out of there stinking of cigarettes myself. Glad they bought that ban in for sure, although I do feel for smokers sometimes!
ReplyDeleteWe just had some cranky children that didn't really get into the spirit. I think we might do a version of White Elephant gifts.
DeleteWe had a lot of fun with the saran wrap game last year. I think my mom plans to have everyone wear oven mitts this year. We also do a sock exchange, white elephant style. It's fun, because in the worst case, you get a hideously ugly pair of socks. Which people wear with pride. ;-) We are also doing a white elephant style craft exchange, which should be amusing. We are decidedly uncrafty people.
ReplyDeleteWe have kid of an open house the Christmas eve and this was a filler for one of the "rounds". There are some fun ideas out there.
DeleteSounds like a lovely time. Have fun with your kids and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteDaughter day today, but to get some things done. I hope your weekend was lovely.
DeleteIt sounds like a good weekend, the part passed and the upcoming events you have planned. I suffered before the indoor smoking bans. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteThere's good social opportunities in places like VFW's, Legions and Eagles clubs and all for a charitable cause for the most part. The smoking used to keep me away though.
DeleteI was thinking the same thing that today is still Friday and we still have the weekend to go. Yay! I hope yours is very productive, Sam. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so-I'm moving a bit slow after a late night!
DeleteA fine weekend indeed !
ReplyDeleteFood and family with a dose of friends.
