Thrifty Thursday on Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! As we get closer to Christmas and my wallet will get a work out, I'm much more aware of when I get good deals, or better yet, save my money entirely so it an be directed towards holiday joy. This was not a bad week, though some splurging with my birthday.

  • DH and I went out Saturday, not really for my birthday, but used my free one topping birthday deep dish. With Onion rings and boneless wings, and a couple beers, with tip, it came to $37, but we had  half leftover for Sunday night football.
  • Sunday lunch was at Red Robin, with a total bill of $17 for tax and tip due to my whole meal being free, and we just drank water. Not to bad even for tipping 20% on the before discount. That meant DH and I had three meals technically Out if you count the leftovers, for $54. Birthday  rewards are a great way to stretch your entertainment budget.
  • Used the buy one get one 1/2 off dog food offer at Target, plus had a $2 coupon on his brand. While I bought the more expensive per pound smaller bag because I didn't want two 16 pound bags sitting around, Pup now has two months of food for $5.60 less than the normal price of the large bag.
  • While not cheap, I was able to help DS with his airfare through some Orbitz points. I also got a travel credit points so the price is more in line with what we've typically had to pay. The issue with the Boeing Max has cut options for him and it is felt in the ticket prices. It' hard to book too far ahead as his schedule varies.
  • Earned another $5 Target gift card through Microsoft Rewards. I'm up to $15 to go towards Christmas shopping. Not a ton, but it will help.
I plan to enjoy the weekend with my family and some friends. I've got frugal meals planned as well as making good use of leftovers. Sunday starts a new month and our goal is to have most of the holiday spending done by December 10th so little to nothing rolls into January with the exception of any post Christmas shopping for things to use as gift over the course of the year or to replace my wrapping stock for next year. Did you have any big wins? Are you planning to Black Friday shop and if so, on-line or will you battle the stores?

  1. I'll hit R-A three times in the next 3 days but that's it for my going to stores anytime soon and I don't plan to online shop since I am done for Xmas.
    Have a nice Thanksgiving SAM!

  2. We've gotten a few good deals (mostly gift card deals for the like of Home Depot, which we always need for the house). I'll go to Rite Aid, and then hopefully find a couple of good deals on gift cards for activities I need. If they don't run any special promos, I'll likely just buy the gift cards over the weekend & save myself the trouble. After that, my shopping will be done!

Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family.

    1. Nothing has jumped out in the ads-certainly nothing to ruin my Thanksgiving or get u early and wait in lines. I hope to do some on-ine shopping and maybe finish this weekend.

  3. I will hit Rite Aid several times before Sunday, the first being today after we put the bird in the oven. Other than that, I am essentially finished with my Christmas shopping. It's a good feeling to know I can't think of a reason why I *need* to go to anything other than a grocery store between now and Christmas.

  4. Just online shopping for BF for me, and even then not too much. Just really do not need all that "stuff" they advertise, LOL. What is Microsoft Rewards?

    1. Nothing appealed to me so far as well. Belinda at Frugal Workshop wrote about the rewards. There are points earned for trivia and searches. I seem to get a required about every 8 weeks/ Belinda earns quicker-not sure how. https://account.microsoft.com/account/Account?ru=https%3A%2F%2Faccount.microsoft.com%2Frewards%2F&destrt=rewards-dashboard

  5. I just have to purchase 2 things after midnight, on line. Shopping has been done and just needs to be bagged up. I like to have most shopping done by Halloween as I do not enjoy the frantic pace of everyone shopping! I feel like if done early I get to chose and enjoy what I do such as baking and looking at lights.

  6. The birthday rewards are a great way to stretch your resources and can be a lot of fun. Good deal on the Microsoft Rewards. I'm working on a $10 Amazon card right now. I am not Black Friday shopping tomorrow. We have family in from out of town and they want to do something together, just not that. LOL I hope you have a blessed holiday today.

    1. It seems like a no brainer to sign up for rewards if a person likes to go out anyway. I miss not having Ruby Tuesdays near me though.

  7. I will do no shopping this weekend. I can't handle the Black Friday crowds. But will try to have the majority done by the 15th.
