Thankful Before Thanksgiving

Minnesota was hit overnight with the snowy weather, though DH is listening trying to get an update on snow totals. It doesn't seem like we got more than 4 inches but it is thick and sticky and the wind is howling. DD2 made a compromise and attended the first half of her  late afternoon class and after getting gas, she, her roommate, the driver, and another floor mate headed  south ahead of the snow. I met her about 40 minutes later than they originally expected, more due to just slow traffic than weather, but by 9:00 when the snow had picked up, we were pulling into the driveway safe and sound. I worked late and got groceries in between, so it worked out quite well for efficiency.

My Thanksgiving prep is minimal since I will just have to peel and roast my sweet potatoes, throw the  spiral ham in the oven and later slice for the crockpot, and just wash the veggies. I bought store dip, cukes, grape tomatoes, and celery and DD1 is doing broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and hummus. She's also making some vegan mashed potato's. I'll keep the sweet potato's vegan as well. I ended up just shopping a the Cub near work as I wasn't sure where the closet Aldi was. I spent $70, but I know I would have spent at least  $20 less at Aldi, doing math in my head. Convenience costs. I'll still have $20 of my $300 goal for final weekend needs, but we have a kitchen full, so might just tuck that away and call it good.

My tests and labs yesterday were a bit uncomfortable, and I was left with  cramping the rest of the day and still am not perky today. I had already decided to work from home since it was a half scheduled day and I bet the road conditions would have me on the road longer than in the office. I'll log in by 7:30 and hope to wind down by 12:30 or so. I have two Skype  meetings and I am way behind on reviewing  first quarter grant reports, so fingers crossed I'll knock those done before I stop for the day.

With the holiday, it sounds like I shouldn't expect lab results until early next week, then I'll have a follow-up for next steps. While the scan showed some potential factors that could be causing my symptoms, the gynecologist that took the sample for the biopsy said nothing looked obvious, so I'm taking that as positive. I'll keep that mindset hopefully regardless, and appreciate the kind words from Monday's post. I am thankful for the insurance and medical care I've received so far.

I have much to be grateful for the day before Thanksgiving. DS has his airplane ticket booked for Christmas. DD1 had her work call a snow day, so while she has work to complete, she is doing it from the safety of her house and staying put until the roads clear. DD2 is sleeping in her own bed upstairs. We'll have a day tomorrow  with the annual Gobble run, family, and a relaxing evening not rushing to the stores. Happy planning to you all.

  1. I just saw the news about the weather across the country, and mentioned to DH that I was glad we were not travelling for the holiday, and happy he no longer flew. We don't typically get severe weather here, but it looks like a freeze will hit tomorrow. Although, it almost seems a tradition that we get wind and lose power on Thanksgiving. If that happens this year, I am thankful for our generator. I do miss our woodstove, however.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. It was bad but not nearly as bad as it seemed to have been predicted. Things were up and moving pretty well by noon yesterday.

  2. Lucky you to have snow for Thanksgiving. We had rain storms last night and the wind howled here also. Glad to hear your meal prep is minimal. Mine is too as we are eating at my BIL's home. I hope you and your family have a blessed day, Sam.

    1. There was a bit of rain first, so some icy spots which are not fun. I hope you have a good holiday as well.

  3. I need to put a hen in the oven, make a bowl of Jello and fruit for Tommy and bake sweet potatoes and a pumpkin pie. So, not much. I know the gyno problems worry you. I wish for you a good outcome.

  4. The weather was nuts here yesterday, and we lost power. It's back on now, at least. I'm working today as well, although will try to wrap up a bit early. I also need to swing by a few stores, gather the final ingredients & get ready for tomorrow. Dinner prep should be pretty leisurely. We're all running a 5k, and the kids are dog walking for our elderly neighbor, who is out of town.

    1. The girls ran the 8K-DD1 did really well with a pretty decent time for a non regular runner, though she is in very good athletic shape. DD2 didn't do too bad considering she has not been running at all, but her legs are quite sore now.

  6. Praying that all the tests come back with good news and you find out whatever is causing the symptoms. Isn't it nice to have the baby home?

    1. The poking, prodding, and samples have made me feel very ugh, so I sure hope I get some answers.
